  1. Less than 24 hours before this post, you said any sensible person would hold out for more money, now you say it does not make sense to not sign.
  2. Jon Lester has to be up there as well. I thought he only had a problem with pickoffs at 1st. I coulda swore that it was throwing to 1st in general, but for sure -- the pickoffs stand-out to me. Still part of fielding.
  3. So they can essentially get $100K over their slot value without the Brewers incurring a penalty? This stuff is confusing to me, but that shouldn't be a surprise--I get confused easily.
  4. Does Paul Molitor hitting .341 at age 39 mean Braun will do well at 34? No, it doesn't. It only means that some players will continue to hit well. Probably the best hitter of the last 20 years is Albert Pujols. Age 30: 1.011 OPS 31: .906 32: .859 33: .767 34: .790 35: .787 36: .708 (current season) Great players decline at some point. Pujols decline doesn't mean Braun will next year or whenever - it just means it happens to players - even great players. Perhaps there are indications that Braun (or anyone) will age well (or won't age well). That would be interesting to know. But I know there have been studies showing that players, taken as a whole, peak, stay steady, and then decline at a specific age. You might then take in account body type, injuries, type of player (such as a guy who relies on speed or power or whatever), and other variables and draw some conclusions. Ryan is hitting great right now, and I hope he keeps hitting great. But I expect some decline as the years go along. I don't think anyone thinks he's just going to fall off a cliff, but to have him decline gradually is probably what would be expected. And we have to remember, a declining Ryan Braun is (hopefully) still a much better hitter most other hitters. This is assuming we're positive about Pujols' age. Seems like there have been whispers through the years, almost his entire career, that he's older than his stated age.
  5. The Mets are in desperate need offense so I'd think they'd hand onto Conforto even if they were to add a bat like Lucroy. I think I'd also be surprised if they move Matz for a bat. Wheeler is a likely choice, even though he's a wildcard at this point, plus some arms in the lower level or a lower level bat or two. Just the way I see it with the Mets.
  6. Can't let facts get in the way of opinions and vendettas. Vendetta? Good grief.
  7. Oh geez, let it go already... I don't understand how people are still holding this over his head. The guy made a mistake, he has paid the price, he is making amends. What good does it do to hate one of your own guys. Time to move on. You completely missed the point of my post. Maybe you need to read it again?
  8. I don't find it anything notable. Ryan Braun has always been a good PR guy and says the right things. Yeah, that press conference after his positive PED test was thrown out due to a technicality was a good PR move; he said a lot of "right things" that day.
  9. Brewers are wearing their throwbacks again (same uni's they wore on Friday).
  10. I don't either. Here and there you have to take chances. Scooters horrible at bat and a perfect bang/bang throw over shadows those who always want to play out games "the way they are supposed to be played." More of just a talking point for most. Not at all what people are saying. He's already in scoring position, don't get thrown out late in the game when the middle of the order is coming up.
  11. Chris Carter is pretty close to hitting a bunch of homeruns; he's 'just missed' a few times in at-bats tonight and last night on his sac-fly he almost hit a bomb. He's also left a lot of guys on base in the process, but I think he's pretty close to hitting a few bombs before the next cold streak.
  12. Not that it really matters that much, but the complete lack of any pitcher on this staff to execute a sacrifice bunt is funny. Fernandez is tough, so at least Peralta didn't spike himself, but I can't remember the last time I've seen this team bunt a runner with a pitcher successfully. Usually it's just a strikeout.
  13. Keeping in mind that Walsh is seeing MLB for the first time, at least first extended time that I'm aware of, it's clear he's pretty lost at the plate. He's swinging at balls and taking strikes. I have zero issues giving him continued at-bats and seeing if he can just figure things out, but as a fan of what he can bring to the table, he's pretty brutal to watch.
  14. The umpire - who was watching the whole thing - should have called that in real-time. No reason to go to replay for that obvious base-running mistake.
  15. My prediction from Simon was not even as good as the real outing. I shouldn't be surprised, it's basically Braun, Lucroy, Carter, and a bunch of junk trying to score runs.
