  1. There's an interesting rivalry between UW and MU, yes. Most it fueled by loudmouths from either fanbase who are regulars on popular message boards and contributors to various publications about the team they follow. I don't want to offend any MU fans here, but yeah I could never see myself wearing MU gear. Partly because of that silly part of the rivalry, but another just because I've never had any interest in the school, for various reasons.
  2. I never said they were the best athletes in the world. They're seeing the best competition in the world at their given event.
  3. What don't you understand? Not trying to convince you to like something you don't like, just curious what there is to understand? For the most part it is watching people compete at things that nobody cares about outside of one month every 4 years. That's what makes it fun for me is these events - especially in the winter - that you don't normally get to see, and athletes that may only get one crack at winning their event against the best competition in the world. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I enjoy both winter and summer Olympics.
  4. 'We gotta get it done on the field this year...and we can! We got the fighters, we got the gamers, we got the hard workers.' - Ned Yost, 2005 That might have been the start of the 'gritty battlers' joke that I never get tired of using re: all things Ned Yost.
  5. I have no issues with someone that wants to wear other professional team hats, but a Badger fan wearing Marquette gear? That I can't get my head around. Native Wisconsinite, Badger fan, and UW alum here and I'd wear a Gopher hat before I wore anything from Marquette, and I don't get into the whole "you should only wear gear of teams you're a fan of" talk.
  6. I don't know if it's been argued already, but I like this shade of gray for an away uniform. Might be a bit hot in the dead of summer, though. Why did Leyland bunt w/ Arenado up in the 4th with two on and nobody out?! Yostian over-managing there.
  7. Oh man. That's comical stuff right there. If he does hit, why would he ever get bumped? If he comes in this season and smashes the ball around the park do you really think he's all of a sudden going to take a back seat to someone just because you think they are a better prospect? He's 23. He'll get his opportunity to stick out there. What he does with it is the next thing. Again, you're spinning your wheels here because you happen to like Broxton and Brinson better. That's fine, but your dismissing Santana and that's just not smart. Now THIS is some spin. Good grief.
  8. How come I don't see Monte Harrison in any of those lists? Did I miss a health update somewhere?
  9. Hmm that's an interesting one. If Broxton can keep the strikeouts reasonable that type of profile could be a reasonable ceiling offensively(obvious peak Weeks before the injuries). Of course Broxton has the opportunity to provide a lot defensively and on the basepaths too. Weeks and Broxton have two different swings in my mind. One thing it seems that Broxton's hand adjustment has done is allowed his bat a longer path through the zone so his timing doesn't have to be exact. Weeks was more down and through the zone, from what I remember and it forced him to have almost perfect timing. Of course that also meant when he hit the ball he had awesome backspin. Again, I could be wrong, but this is just how I remember Weeks' swing vs what Broxton is doing now.
  10. My initial thought with this is that he must not be a well-liked dude in clubhouses. Maybe there are other financial or health-related reasons but I don't feel like doing any digging.
  11. I thought he was closer to Monte Harrison than Keon Broxton, but I'm just going with the tiny bits and pieces I saw of him in 2016. I haven't seen him in the spring yet.
  12. Prince looks slimmer to me.
  13. At this point, given what we've seen from Broxton, I don't understand how Szcsur is an upgrade. Even with Jimmy's poor 2016, I feel like this would be a poor deal for the Brewers.
  14. There are going to be plenty of opportunities for guys who will be here in a year or two. Relatively speaking, $6MM in 2017 for a pitcher who could rebound and net us some more talent is really a drop in the bucket. Yes, the Brewers don't have unlimited funds, but this signing doesn't prevent them from signing other players or getting younger pitchers high-leverage innings. Your argument seems to be switching between "it's a money issue" to "it's a playing time issue", which makes me wonder if there is some other reason you just don't want to see the Brewers sign Feliz. I'm trying to see the negatives to it, but there just aren't any that are glaring (to me). If he stinks then we're out $6MM in a non-contending season; the Brewers have spent way more money in way worse ways in seasons that they thought they should contend.
  15. I believe Hendrickson sat around 90-92 (at best), or maybe it was even slower than that. Wasn't his out pitch supposed to be a big 12-6 curveball? Problem was, he could never throw it for a strike, and it was really slow (not THAT huge of a problem, plenty of pitchers have slow curveballs). I also don't think there was a big MPH difference from his curve to his fastball - which was pretty lifeless. I remember watching him pitch in MLB and, aside from falling behind every hitter, I wondered how he was ever going to get MLB hitters out on a regular basis. It was ugly.
  16. The highlight of Ben Hendrickson's brief MLB career was most certainly his dad posting on Brewerfan. I only wish I would have seen them in real-time. I believe a poster shared a link or a part of them a few years ago.
  17. Good grief, that's a name I had almost been able to forget.
  18. For sure; that part wasn't the surprise. I guess I never recall it being reported like Kirk's or the amount of money. Not a big deal either way.
  19. Not uncommon at all. Last year or the year before the Brewers signed someone to the same kind of contract. Who?
  20. Interesting. I think that's a first for me hearing a contract like that.
  21. Count me as one of those people. It always struck me a odd that people got upset because an exhibition game meant to showcase all the best players ended in a tie because they showcased all the players. Same here. I also never liked the All-Star game determining home-field advantage. I would be curious to see if there are any real numbers about the effect of 'All-Star game determines home field' had on ratings, merchandise, etc, that cannot be attributed to normal spike (or drops) in those categories over the years due to general interest in the game.
  22. Someone calling Chapman blowing the deciding game could end up being right. Was that the spark the Indians needed?
  23. No thanks. We don't know if Lopez can contribute to the MLB club, but it's a good time to find out. Plus, he's cheap and controllable. As others have said, Valencia has some clubhouse issues. That's not someone I feel like the Brewers need to try when they've still got others players in their system they can audition.
  24. I just turned on Indians @ Red Sox, so I haven't seen all the calls this game, but that strike 3 to Pedrioa looked like a good pitch to me. Not much you can do with it as a hitter. Has the ump been down that low much tonight? If not, then I suppose he has a beef.
