  1. That's surprising, and a bit comforting. Nice to know that some people out there like Milwaukee. It seems like all I ever hear from players is that they would rather not be in Milwaukee. *Edit - Duh back to topic. I'd love to have Schmidt here too, but what kind a contract would get him here?
  2. If it was this or sign Roberts to a 3 year deal worth 5 million per, I would take the Brady and Gross platoon and save ourselves the money for something else, or keep it for future purposes. I'd like to think that some of the younger hitters will develop more and be able to drive in some more runs - mainly looking at Rickie here, key for him is to stay healthy. Same with Hardy, though I don't anticipate he'll ever be a big run producer the way Rickie can.
  3. Shouldn't that be written in blue? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Maybe if we could get the coachable version of Corey Patterson. Actually, I have no idea if he is or isn't coachable, I'd like to think that he isn't in the sense that he's got all kinds of talent but he just can't seem to use it correctly. Maybe he's just one of those players that will never be able to put it together.
  4. Let's just say that we were to sign Lofton to a 1 year deal. Then we would most likely be having this same conversation next year, will Gwynn be ready after one more year at AAA or after a year on the bench with the big club? Is Krynzel out of the picture now? Just throwing these questions out there, because I think the Brewers are a ways away from solving their CF issue. I'm not sure how I feel about the potential signing of Roberts, he could be a good leadoff hitter for us but just the fact that he's 34 has me somewhat skeptical. As far as Coco Crisp goes, was it printed anywhere that Boston was shopping him? I can't imagine that they would be, didn't they give up quite a bit for him? Wasn't it Marte, after their got Marte from Atlanta? Maybe I'm wrong about that but I would assume he's their CF for a while, unless they get a deal that is going to knock their socks off.
  5. This question isn't necessarily directed at you Pogo, but at mainly anyone. How come we value stolen bases more for one guy than for another? I've seen Roberts name mentioned and the fact that he's stolen bases at a pretty good clip in the past, and then when Pierre's name is mentioned with stolen bases it's always shot down with "I'd rather have a leadoff hitter who can hit for a little power, as a double is more valuable than a single and a stolen base." Maybe it's because Pierre was thrown out 20 times last year, but in the past hasn't he always been a pretty darn good base stealer? His success rate probably isn't as high as Roberts, maybe that's why Roberts is valued a bit more as a base stealer around here. Roberts might be the overall better player, but if you look at their career stats, Roberts and Pierre have had pretty similar careers. As a matter of fact, Pierre leads in OPS, OBP, SLG, AVG. This is kind of hijacking the thread, but I just wanted to throw that out there merely for more discussion on why Roberts seems to be more favored than Pierre. Personally I don't really care, neither of these two really knock my socks off if they were to be our "big signing".
  6. Pro Sports Daily is also a pretty good one, probably like Rotoworld, it has a bunch of newspapers, you can search on the right by team. *If my link didn't work here's the URL for anyone interested. http://www.prosportsdaily.com/mlb/mlbrumors.html
  7. Better fielder, more speed, doesn't strike out as much, walks more. They both play right field right now, but I don't really think they're the same type of player.
  8. I wouldn't think so either, but for the reason that Drew opted out of his contract because he thought he could get more money. It seems like kind of a jerk thing for Drew to do, and then assume that the Dodgers will again offer but offer more money.
  9. Garciaparra could maybe then be the super-sub. Albeit an expensive one. He could play 1B to give Prince days off, maybe an infield or outfield spot here and there. But still not have to play everyday therefore being a very quality pinch hitting option. Of course if the Brewers were paying him 8-10 mil per season they should expect at least 400 at bats.
  10. I was surprised - looking at JD Drew's stats during the season - to see how much he was making. Clearly he has the ability to be an above average player, but knowing that he had the injury problems I couldn't believe he was making $11 million. He plays really solid D, has a strong arm, obviously he can hit but the million dollar question is can he stay healthy. Signing him for more than the amount he opted out of his old contract is too risky for the Brewers IMO.
  11. I don't think I would either, but he seems too fragile now to play anywhere other than first base. But I think even if he had a year like last year it would help out. What about Nomar at 3rd base? Hall might already be headed to the OF. We still are on the hook for Koskie, and he'll probably start at 3rd assuming he's healthy. But then what to do with Braun when he's ready to play at the MLB level. Nomar is just an idea obviously, but I don't think it's really that crazy to consider it. If he could stay healthy in LF I wouldn't mind having him at all.
  12. Jeter blamed A-Rod for losing? Where did this come from? I had never heard of this before. I like how the Yankees want to get rid of A-Rod for someone better, or maybe they want to rid themselves of the contract....right. They want to pin their postseason struggles on A-Rod. Rolen for A-Rod? The Cardinals would be getting the best deal in a long time, assuming the Yankees would pick up some of the contract. If I were the Cardinals I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. A-Rod stays healthy, hits for more power and could hit for higher average. Rolen will play better D, and is a class act - that I've always liked about him. Anywho I think A-Rod needs to get out of NYC, it's just not his atmosphere IMO. He's had good seasons since he's been there but I think he needs to go some place where he's the man, not just a cog.
  13. Not really my guys, just didn't want the Mets to win. I would have cheered for the Dodgers, or Padres. I'd rather the NL central be represented. Blast me for that if you want but that's my opinion. Edit: Still haven't quite figured out how to quote, I guess I'll get that sooner or later. Jim - not trying to argue on end with you here, just from what I saw of this series I had the impression that the Mets were THE team to beat, or THE team chosen to win whichever.
  14. I have spent more than 5 minutes in New York. It's not so much that I hate New York and their teams - which I do to some extent - it's when I see that the media has chosen one team (in this case the Mets) to win it all. None of the owerniship hijinx? Look the Mets spend a lot of money too. They spent the 5th most this year in baseball. www.onestopbaseball.com/TeamPayroll.asp But it's not about them paying money to have a good team. I like watching Reyes, Wright, Maine, etc play, my point was that any time a team such as the Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, etc play in the LCS it's clear what team is supposed to win. The afore mentioned. I wasn't a fan of the Yankees in their run for the WS, wasn't a fan of the Red Sox in theirs - as a matter of fact hated them more afterwards and their fans - and wasn't a fan of the Mets now. Though like I said I like Reyes, Wright, Maine, etc. Edit - Should have responded to a specific post, that or responded sooner. Either way it's pointless now as the Cardinals win.
  15. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'd much rather see the Cardinals than the Mets. That will make it 3 years in a row in the WS for the NL central, and I just can not stand New York teams. Especially the Mets. Throughout this whole broadcast (FOX) it seemed like the crew wanted the Mets to win. When Yadier hit that homerun, my roommate and I - who are both big Brewer fans - yelled because we both wanted those Met punks to go down. At the very least I hope the NL doesn't get swept this year.
