    This thread probably doesn't have as many replies because I, like many I'm sure, don't have anything new or profound to add. For me, Uecker was summer and summer nights, road trips with my Dad, Harry Doyle, etc. A huge chunk of my childhood, in other words. As an adult I still loved hearing the voice, even if his skills had slipped a bit. Uecker'isms from me hearing him on the radio will stay with me for the rest of my life probably, just like other core memories will. Should be an interesting year, or at least start to the year with various tributes.

    I did not expect to see Made in the top 50, let alone the top 25. Let's get 2025 started!

    I wonder if it's possible to do something with an early opt-out after two seasons so he has the chance to rebound a bit in MKE and still be looking at another huge payday in two seasons. You'd think playing half of his games in MKE vs NY would help his offensive numbers. As far as the numbers themselves, no idea what it would take and also, maybe the Brewer brass feels their window isn't quite open yet for a big gamble like Alonso. But I also thought he would be a great fit if they can somehow swing it (no pun intended).

    Fickell will still look to hire a QB coach, presumably. If Grimes is the hire, it appears they're trying to build through the O-Line, which is the right move, IMO. I believe Harbaugh went back to heavy sets and a punishing O-Line after being on the hotseat in Michigan after a few lackluster years. Lucky for Harbaugh, the defense also vastly improved; we'll see if that's the case for UW. I'll be curious who Fickell can get to coach quarterbacks. I'm not sure if there's a "reclamation project" out there that just wants to work to rebuild their coaching credibility or an up and coming type. It's another important hire for Fickell.

    Sounds like the staff wants Lowery to play with his hand in the dirt and he wants to play standing up. Thinking that if he can't make the right reads, at least he can absorb some blocks and he said, "nah".

    Will be curious where he goes with OC, and likely (IMO) DC. Guidugli would make some sense, unless ND gives him a big raise to keep him around but I have no idea how likely that is. Another thing to think about is other head coaches who have been shown the door and need the work to re-establish their reputations. Tom Herman might be an interesting candidate at OC.

    Especially if it's true that Carter Smith is going to UW. Though they'll need depth, too. I would hope that Mettauer doesn't leave, too.

    This team desperately needs a true middle linebacker. Quay is out of his element there and probably being misused.

    Potrykus tweeted something last week or the week before, too. Cryptic stuff. I figured Longo was gone at the end of the year so a little surprised by the timing but I assume Fickell was just so pissed at what happened last night it was the last straw. Locke never improved at all in any of his starts, even against bad teams when he padded stats he would have some mind-bogglingly stupid turnover(s). I was extremely discouraged about 2025 and while I still am a bit, it's a little less now with Longo gone.

    I don't think it would be wise for Mac to weigh-in on who Fickell hires/fires. Mac has enough goodwill issues within the athletic department he should be worried about.

    There's going to be some real play action opportunities here for UW. Offensive line has looked much better.

    Similar to me. I was on a Wiki rabbit hole and was reading on the 1999 - 2000 team that won the Rose Bowl and how many "homegrown" kids they had. I know college football is changing and players rarely stay 3-5 years and develop but man it was fun to have a senior-laden team with experience and strength and watch them beat the crap out of teams. Scott Tolzien would not be talked about in the upper echelon of UW QBs (though maybe he should, or maybe he actually is) but his final season at UW was quintessential Paul Chryst as an offensive coordinator and was about as good of a team as I can remember despite not winning the Rose Bowl (thanks Chryst). I would love to have a team like that again. So much NFL talent and developing NFL talent. It feels like we're SO far away from that.

    Bears down 19-3 to the Pats at home is a big ouch. Oh well!

    I didn't say anything about offensive style or identity, but I would take a good running game any day over the garbage that we see now. I was in favor of trying something else offensively but this ain't it. If it's true that Sean Lewis was rumored to be Leonhard's target as OC, then I would have been intrigued to see what he could do here. I didn't think the offense needed an overhaul but the line play was subpar for several years under Rudolph. I think Blazek is a good coach and hopefully he can right the ship with line play, which will dictate how successful the offense is or isn't. Brayden Locke also is a killer but at this point there just isn't a better option on the roster. Sucks.

    Another tidbit I heard that possibly moved Mac away from Leonhard was that Leonhard felt the team didn't need to make a drastic change with respect to NIL, and where the team was headed, and Mac disagreed. There were some rumblings that Leonhard was seen a bit as another Chryst with respect to energizes boosters (Chryst hated the schmoozing part of college football, where Bielema was quite good at it). The Gridiron Club being an example. I don't know if Chryst lost the lockerroom but there was some fear the lockerroom wasn't entirely behind Leonhard, either. I think it was just a weird year in general. Fickell was more willing to look at the program and where it was with NIL and the college landscape and that also led Mac to go away from Leonhard. I hated the move at the time because I figured Leonhard would build a great staff and keep the continuity with a good defense but when thinking objectively, I figured Fickell would be the slam dunk hire as it was described at the time. Hindsight is 20/20. Leonhard isn't going to be back with UW in any capacity until Mac is gone.

    I'm rooting for Willy to get the big payday he's earned. I'm also rooting for the Brewers not to offer anything more than 4 years and Willy, if he's being advised correctly, should be looking for more years.

    Agreed. I think, barring a move, they almost have to let him spin his wheels in Milwaukee and see if they have anything.

    Perhaps. But Longo was an equally bad hire trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Brayden Locke has spent most of his college career now with Longo and he's shown ZERO improvement. Longo isn't anything without All American or 1st round NFL talent.

    That was a horrendous performance. This team, and really program, has a lot of problems.

    The organization must be confident they can find someone to put up Rea like numbers for less than $5.5 million. No idea who that might be but I trust them to find some cheap arms or some AAA guys.
