Strengths: Players seem to like him, defensive shifting Weaknesses: Roster construction, lineup construction, in-game pitching management, in-game offensive management I didn't think I'd like him, given his initial comments when hired. I didn't think he'd be this bad, though.

As of right now, roughly 90% of respondents have him in the 5-7 range; if you average the total points over ballots for those three numbers, you get a composite score of 6.25. I think that's pretty accurate.

What doesn't make sense to me is that DRH had an option remaining. Why didn't Cincy just send him to AAA?
  4. TooLiveBrew
Sure, but as Cousins you don't know how close the throw is going to be. If he felt his best play was to go for the collision, I can't second-guess that.

Ugh, I'm going to that game, so that's not even funny!

I see a lot of Miken's "Freak" line, too. The MSF Freak isn't legal (has the 2004 certification mark, but has since been banned), but there are several other in the Freak line that are -- 98, Maxload, etc.

    Awesome. Now I will too!

I've heard good things about the Salvo too

What the heck was wrong with that slide? That was just a clean feet first slide. He could've ran him over if he wanted to. Just because his foot was there blocking the plate doesn't mean he can't slide into it. Another thing Chris Carpenter has to explain to his son. He's going to be a busy guy.

This is almost literally word for word what I was just thinking. Very kind gesture from Bonds.
  11. TooLiveBrew
Most importantly, how is Chris Carpenter going to explain this to his son?
  12. TooLiveBrew
Edit: They called up Chris Stewart, a 29 year old journeyman with 26 games of major league experience. I'm guessing he can probably match or better Nieves's stunning .150/.209/.200/.409 line.

Not only season ending, but possibly career-altering. Sad to see.
  14. TooLiveBrew
Yeah, "straight platoon" to me has always meant playing time based exclusively on handedness of the pitcher, not 50/50

http://mlb.mlb.com/video/....jsp?content_id=15201733 Video of the Posey-Cousins collision. Ouch.
  16. TooLiveBrew
    I approve. "He's a natural born world-shaker."
  17. TooLiveBrew
Excellent. I hadn't seen that. A+ on the video caption, Sessile.

That must be what I've heard him called heading back into the dugout (on broadcasts). Assumed it was "Lou", though.
  19. TooLiveBrew
His teammates call him "Lou" That makes me think "Jean-Luc", which is too French for a guy as awesome as Lucroy. http://blog.enterpriseitplanet.com/green/blog/blogpost_img/picard_facepalm.jpg

I've been trying to figure out how to wear my Lucroy shirt to work today without looking too unprofessional. Just add a tie. Boom, you're dressy.

"A large streak of lightning flashed above O'Brien Field just before Thornburg was ready to throw the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth inning and the umpires called for the tarp to be placed on the field. The game resumed after a delay of 64 minutes. Thornburg did not return to the game on the restart. He scattered five hits and two walks over his three innings, but extended his scoreless streak to 10-1/3 innings pitched." There's your answer
  22. TooLiveBrew
Looking forward to another Thornburg start. I get the feeling he won't be in Appleton much longer.

I literally said, "Oh, a real lineup!" out loud last night when it popped up on the screen. Very pleasant surprise, just hope it sticks around Weeks Hart Braun Fielder McGehee Lucroy Betancourt Gomez P Imho, that's the right way to assemble that group of players. Very happy to see RRR went with it last night.

Didn't Cruz also say that he didn't get playing time because Macha had some racist tendencies towards Latinos?

You're not remembering Ryan's arm correctly. His arm is good, and iirc he ranges well at SS. He's graded out as a plus defender by every metric I've seen, including the Fans' Scouting Report.
