  1. Harder to make a "G" with your arms, too.
  2. EDR to the rescue! At least none of my suggestions got shot down http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. I think this crop of outfield prospects is a pretty accurate microcosm of the system as a whole. Several solid talents, none that realistically projects to be special. But that's important for the Brewers, so they don't have to waste money on average big-league free agents. I agree with CheezWizHead's assessment of the guys, for the most part. I think Schafer is the safest pick to 'make it', and it really shouldn't be too long before he's able to get comfortable & back to hitting. It must feel to him like he hasn't played baseball in 5 years at this point. Looking forward to him getting back on track. Gindl will be a nice asset as a cheap 4th OF type; I'm hoping for a poor man's Brian Giles here. I'd take a rich man's Brian Giles, but I don't want to get my hopes up too high. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'm encouraged by Komatsu's success, but I'm not optimistic he can stick in CF, and then he falls more into the role player or 4th OF category (unless he adds power). I will admit the only reason I'm not optimistic about him as a CF is that this is the Brewers organization, & I haven't heard any real positive reports about his defense yet. Khris Davis is an nice hitting prospect, and could give the Brewers some flexibility with regards to Gamel & Hart a few seasons down the road if he can keep mashing. The power he's displayed & rave reviews his approach have earned so far at BC are nothing short of exciting. But, let's keep in mind it's still just A+, and he has a lot left to prove. Probably the highest-upside bat at this point of the group. Can he hit enough to be an option at 1B at some point? I hope so. Kentrail Davis: I'm a little disappointed so far, I was really happy with him on draft day. It's early in the season still, but a 23-yo that hasn't shown much as a hitter yet at A+ is nearing 'cause for concern' stage. I do think he's going to hit his way to Huntsville this season, but another guy I don't really have confidence in to stick at CF beyond playing there in the 4th OF role. Can he hit enough to warrant a spot in RF? I hope so. D'Vo: I think the most encouraging thing for him so far is the much, much better K rate. I'd like to see him develop into a better basestealer, but that's of secondary importance. He's an excellent athlete, & the only one in this group aside from Schafer that really can be an asset on defense in CF. This is certainly the highest-upside overall prospect in the group imo. ... Protip: if you want to search for him on Baseball-Reference, you have to search for "D' Vontrey Richardson", with a space btw. the apostrophe & V. Kind of annoying, but better than not being able to find him.
  4. So had Lucroy caught Wolf yet this year? I know Lucroy caught him on April 14th @ PIT, a 6 IP, 3 H, 10K/2BB, 0 ER outing. I agree that it has really gotten old to see Wolf acting up on the mound.
  5. Thanks, Toby. I got the impression the mechanical stuff was different for Guerrieri than it was for Rogers (the "arm action is clean" note). Sounds like nothing more than many prospects would go through, in terms of changes to delivery.
  6. How common or uncommon is it for HS prospects to need as much work on delivery as it sounds like Guerrieri might? All I can think when hearing HS prospect with a huge FB, great breaking pitch, & messy mechanics is Mark Rogers.
  7. Why would he enlist the advice of amateurs when he can go to Axford??? Touché. What was I thinking?
  8. Farris doesn't take walks, and doesn't hit for power. He's OBP-ing under .300 right now. Don't know much about his glove though. Excellent defender with an arm that doesn't play well at SS for more than utility work.
  9. "How will Chris Carpenter explain this to his son?" Welcome to BF.net, Joseph. I think I speak for everyone here when I say we are going to steal this line from you, big-time.
  10. This cracked me up. Jonathan could enlist the advice of Katin, Gamel, & Reed in Nashville if he needed mustache help.
  11. Any time a manager gladly admits to giving up outs in risky situations, there's a good chance that his decisions won't go over well with fans. Now, whenever a player makes a mistake on the basepaths—say, for example, Casey McGehee trying to stretch a single into a double or Carlos Gomez looking to take third on a misplayed ball in shallow center—fans can add it to the "Runnin' Ron Roenicke" files for future complaints. Well-played aggressive baserunning is far less obvious, of course, so the file is rarely cleared out. Does Larry Granillo read Brewerfan? If not, that's a pretty funny coincidence.
  12. Is Hunter Morris a legitimate 1B prospect? If they bump him to AA later this year; could they reasonably expect him to be in the bigs at some point in 2012? If so it would be another internal option at 1B other than Gamel. I see Morris has a ton of doubles power; will that eventually translate to HR or is he more like Overbay? Also looks like he needs to start taking some walks as well fondybrewfan's post in the 5/17 Link Report thread. I don't recall ever seeing anything close to definitive on Morris's defense. I know I was a bit surprised that the Brewers would try a college first baseman at 3B, but this *is* the Brewers, after all. Is the 3B work due to anything more than the Brewers trying to maximize Morris's potential value -- like possibly not having enough raw power to project well at 1B? Or is it due to him actually having tools that project well there? The best I can remember (at least I think I'm not making it up) was that some scouts/a scout reacted pretty sarcastically to Morris working at 3B. It's something I would've read in the MiLB forum, but that's all I can really recall. EDIT: Here's a comment from Jim Callis (posted 11.2.10 by battlekow) in response to the question 'Can we possibly see [Morris] break camp in ST?' - "No, that's way, way, way too early. Morris has good lefthanded power, but he's at least a season and a half away. At least." Obviously that's only about his bat. Here's what Toby (AndThat) had to say about Morris in the same ('10 AFL) thread: - "I think the Brewers really like Hunter Morris. Like, REALLY LIKE Hunter Morris. Don't know about the 3B thing, though. His comments about playing third is akin to just wearing another glove makes me think that defense isn't his thing. Scouts agree. Which makes him the prototypical Brewers prospect." Maybe AndThat's comment is what I was remembering, but I swear there was something pretty sarcastic or negative from an anonymous scout about Morris playing at 3B at some point. And, fwiw, I couldn't find the comment AndThat is referring to. There's one that I admittedly only read & didn't hear in an interview for inflection or context, but Morris made the comment that he felt more comfortable at 3B than 1B, & that he was keeping 4 gloves in his locker at that time in order to play multiple positions.
  13. I certainly didn't. It made me chuckle.
  14. I sure hope you're onto something here. Could easily be the explanation.
  15. In other words, most of the things people have complained about could soon go away, and everyone can once again focus all of their hatred on the one remaining source of angst... Betancourt. Best line in this thread.
  16. Wow. Definitely read the story linked to in that BA piece, too. Piece of work.
  17. Obviously you mean classy losers.
  18. So what am i missing here? That Roenicke still thinks Kotsay is the Mark Kotsay of 2000-'04
  19. I know, just the juxtaposition of "right now" with "with time"
  20. It's nice to see "Lou" (as I've heard him called in the dugout during broadcasts) hitting this well. Listening to RRR's 'explanation' of why he might someday be a good #2 hitter, but is currently better utilized as #8, was incredibly painful. Get out of your own way, Ron! Nice to see him hitting well also because I don't think his arm is anything special for a catcher. He does seem to block the ball pretty well, though.
  21. Defensive upgrade maybe but at best you are getting the same offensive production. And he's two years younger. I think "at best" you'd be getting better offense, too, but that's just based on talent & ceiling -- I think Stewart's is higher than McGehee's. I can understand the financial angle, didn't consider that when I first posted, RockCo. If Ian Stewart, at age 26, has suddenly completely lost the ability to hit, then I guess I would be screwed in said trade. I just don't believe he has. I think he'd give you very comparable offensive production with better defense, and has the chance to become a much better offensive player (not that he necessarily would, just that he has the talent to do it).
  22. "I think I can hit at any level right now, with time," There's a headscratcher for ya.
  23. Is that suppose to be in blue? No. I should say that if Stewart is the defensive upgrade I'm assuming he would be over McGehee, I would feel good about swapping them. I haven't really seen enough of Stewart's play in the field to know for sure. There realistically isn't anyone that thinks Stewart is as bad as his first 52 PAs this season, right?
  24. He's really not. Weeks is head & shoulders better than anyone in the IF, which is kind of sad. Boggs needs more playing time. All he's done so far is take advantage of what tiny PT he's gotten. He's clobbered the snot out of the ball twice for HRs, & shows a very good approach at the plate. But yeah, let's totally keep playing Mark freaking Kotsay, because you know you can't live without his singles & bad defense.
