  1. Rob Wilson not progressing is a poor reflection not only on the player, but the coaching staff as well. I certainly don't claim to know the details of why Vander Blue decommitted & went to Marquette, but it definitely could be due to the offensive style run at each program. Wesley Matthews didn't want to play for Bo, either (again, I don't know the ins & outs of why). I think it's kind of telling when we have to point to one guy, or a couple of guys & say that they're supposed to be the athletic ones. That's kind of my point, I'd much rather see Ryan & his staff out recruiting roster-wide athleticism where the Jarmuszes & Brusewitzes are the exceptions & not the rule. But imo the truth of the matter is that it's rare to find the thoroughbreds that want to run in a slowdown style of play & offense. If you look at the Badgers' roster right now, there are the two obvious stars, and then a bunch of guys that really don't have good all-around game. There are guys that are defensive specialists, guys that are just kind of tall/big, guys that are real athletic. I know that not many programs are able to fill out entire rosters with good players, but I don't think the swing offense is conducive to enticing the top athletes in the country or even region to play for Bucky. As long as that's the case, I think Ryan & the Badgers will be stuck at good-but-not-great.
  2. Some teams would have probably cut him. Cleveland cutting Brandon Phillips loose (not due to injuries) is the only example I can think of like this, and that was obviously a bad decision. I can already see the Rickie Weeks Fan Club on this board is ready to tar and feather Melvin if Weeks leaves in free agency. sveumrules makes a good point that it's not just a one-way street, & we don't have access to the inside info. However, the idea that being mad about the possibility that the team will lose a top-5 player in the league at his position makes me a blinded-by-rage member of a lynch mob is pretty comical. I've been a pretty big supporter of Melvin overall, but yes I will be pissed if he lets Weeks get away. The team obviously isn't re-signing Fielder, so not only do they need Weeks's offense, but they can afford it -- including the risk.
  3. The Brewers stuck by him through multiple injuries What were they going to do, cut him? He was under team salary control. I hope the Brewers can get this worked out, but it's looking more & more like they've botched this beyond repair.
  4. He got Jordan Taylor, didn't he? He had Hughes. I didn't say he doesn't get any. Just that imo he doesn't get enough.
  5. The Cardinals are put into a really bad place with this move by Pujols. It's like the Jeter melodrama, except the Cardinals player is still an elite player. Good thing they re-signed Holliday to show loyalty to Albert. He's such a loyal guy!
  6. I'm confused -- going to the NOAA page for Milwaukee right now, if you add the high end of total snow accumulation forecasts for Mon., Tues., & Weds., at most you get 18". For Racine, 20".
  7. Bo just didn't recruit enough athleticism to round out the team for this year. Bo never recruits enough athleticism. Imo his system doesn't allow him to do so. Why would a great attacking perimeter player want to play in the swing offense? It wouldn't make any sense for me if I'm said player.

  9. Ditto this. I saw the HoF in one afternoon, and honestly feel like I got about a 25% experience. I would love to go back someday & have two full days to peruse.
  10. The Braden Looper -> Cubs thread just made me remember the starting 5 for the 2011 Brewers Greinke Gallardo Marcum Wolf Narveson Yeah. That's real. (!!!!)
  11. It's not so much that I necessarily doubt that they're tasty... it's just... yeah
  12. From that link, I can only see the Marlins' stadium as being set for 2012. Cisco Field (A's) is set for '15.
  13. The Great Dane has two sandwiches served on a pretzel roll. Bavarian Chicken Sandwich, & the Brat & Bacon Pretzel Burger.
  14. I was just checking on the Badgers' recruiting, when I stumbled upon these gems: http://l.yimg.com/a/p/sp/r/49/49dc0474cd7b575aebfb59ea5bad0faf/75078.jpg http://l.yimg.com/a/p/sp/r/ff/fff02308257caa78aa03c5c6e9bd3486/79193.jpg
  15. I had the Rocky Mountain oysters twice at Coors Field last year. They are actually really good and basically taste like chicken tenders, though a little chewier. The only thing I didn't like was that they served it with some kind of weird dipping sauce. They would have been even better with ranch. I love trying new types of food, and definitely consider myself pretty unbiased in terms of what I'll try... but I just don't think I could bring myself to try Rocky Mountain Oysters. *shudder* I actually like the sausage kebab idea, even if it's not really innovative. Sure it's simple, but I like that you can sample each type of sausage.
  16. Oh dear. Yeah, then um, no thanks.
  17. I'm sure he meant LF
  18. Per McCalvy, Robin Yount will attend this year's On Deck event. TH with a blog post that includes the player/personality schedule
  19. I love the Jeter comments... way to get out ahead on that one, Brian http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif The Yankees are entering an interesting timeframe. The superstars that were eventually going to be old are now old enough to pose legitimate concerns, and of course are tying up a huge chunk of the budget. From '11-'15 or so, the Yankees are going to have to execute some form of rebuild, and I think they'd be remiss to not keep Cashman around to be the one to do it. Imo he's done a nice job (considering meddlesome ownership) building a base of youth for the Yankees, & not just selling the prospects off for veterans. They definitely have some younger building blocks, but it might get ugly -- by Yankees standards -- over the next 3 or 4 seasons.
  20. It's there, ping, just follow the lead post's link. This place looks pretty awesome on the inside to me. I agree, in fact, I think it looks amazing overall.
  21. Here's the building! chrisisoutrunning ftw! You are my hero! http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-scared002.gif THANK you http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. I think "awful" is pretty harsh. But it would make sense if they affixed a border all around the video board and ads, considerably or completely closing those gaps.It looks pretty obvious imo that there will be something like the border Sam mentions. That's essentially the picture I've been waiting to see, so thanks for linking to that, AJAY.
  23. Mike Cameron wasn't that different a hitter -- worse BA, & worse K rate for sure -- but was a good defender. He was a far better offensive player because, in spite of his Ks & AVG, he carried a good OBP & SLG for his position... in addition to being a top-flight defender. Betancourt does one thing moderately well for his position, and that's SLG. Aside from that, he's a negative. Nice low-risk possibility here. I agree, but unlike Edmonds, there's not much upside to Kotsay. I'd rather the Brewers just pass on him.
  24. I thought about the Overture Center, and it wasn't that. I really, really wish I hadn't deleted that game off the DVR now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif It's been a while since I lived in Madison, but I lived in the downtown & campus area for several years. I really couldn't recognize the building for the life of me. Thanks to everyone for putting heads together on this. Unless someone has the game saved on DVR I just really don't think my question will be answered.
  25. I'm 99% certain the building in question was significantly bigger than that, and it was near a relatively busy stoplight intersection. Just from my own memory of the UW campus, & now checking some maps, it wasn't Washburn Observatory.
