  1. I didn't realize that Sizemore is only under contract through '12, so my Ryan Braun example from before isn't as accurate as I thought. But I still agree that the Indians aren't even considering moving Sizemore for the type of Brewers-friendly offers that have been suggested here so far.
  2. Good luck in the Big Apple, Chris! It'll be weird to watch you in a different uniform, and to have to DESTROY YOU. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. In 2013, would you view trading Ryan Braun as a salary dump move if he'd been injured for large parts of '11 & '12?
  4. when you're dealing with mid- to low-budget teams, the quality of the farm system is indirectly proportional to the quality of the major league club. Not for Tampa it hasn't been.
  5. In any case, I'm about 99% sure they wouldn't trade him for Gomez or Dickerson and minor league filler. Agreed. Imo a good rule of thumb is that if you don't think the Brewers would make a certain trade, another MLB team wouldn't do it either.
  6. I don't think the price would be low. I think the Indians would still (rightfully) demand some good talent in return. Relative to any kind of reasonably projected level of production*, he's pretty cheap. If the Brewers could manage this deal, I'd love to see them go for it. I'm just not sure they have the ammo to bring him in. Sure, he's had injuries, but 2011 is still only his age-28 season. * Both Bill James & the FanGraphs fan projections have him at a .810 OPS in '11
  7. Cain is a can't miss as far as he isn't that bad now That isn't how "can't miss" is used, and by the rest of his post, not how Buc meant it, either. Prince Fielder was can't miss. Ryan Braun was can't miss. Miggy Cabrera was can't miss. Lo Cain could certainly miss; there's no reason to assume he'll hit near .300. If you consider a player like Cesar Izturis a guy that didn't miss, then sure. But that's just not how the term is used.
  8. There are more not great but serviceable types like Casey McGehee's than can't miss Lorenzo Cain types now. Maybe I'm just nitpicking too much, but I've never seen Cain described as "can't miss".
  9. I read "If Gomez, Benecourt and McGehee (Gamel on bench) sit every third day" to mean that one of those guys would be on the bench roughly every three days... just fwiw. I could definitely be wrong.
  10. Finally, someone's asking the important questions http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  11. Thanks for linking that, AJAY. Pretty cool to see it taking shape.
  12. As much as I'd like to proclaim the Brewers division favorites, it seems like they still have a ton of holes and not a lot of in-house options to fix it. While I know what you mean, go over the Reds' & Cards' rosters. You can say 'if [player x] goes down, they don't have a viable replacement' about nearly every team in baseball, if you pick the right player as player x. If Pujols/Holliday/Wainwright/Carpenter goes down... If Votto/Bruce/Rolen goes down... I actually feel alright about the starting rotation depth. Middle infield is where I feel least comfortable, depth-wise. I don't think Boggs is going to beat Gamel out for a 25-man spot. Like MNBrew said, there's really not much pop off the bench, and Gamel would provide that.
  13. In terms of overall value, it's going to be hard for him to be worse than Betancourt. But MassHaas, yes, I think it's wisest to still discount winter league stats. Escobar's case should be evidence enough.
  14. I wish I would've been able to catch this game (wasn't home yet). Looks like a great win for UW; I really think UM is a good squad this year.
  15. I wondered the same thing, end. I'd have to guess that would've been noted in the stories about his passing if he were.
  16. Hey Chris: Thanks for being a class act & hard worker. Your comeback from a second TJ surgery was just awesome to see. Sorry that things didn't work out with the Brewers for 2011, but I wish you the best. You've always come across as a really intelligent & down-to-earth person. I'm glad you're going to be able to find a job in someone's starting rotation -- you certainly deserve it. And even though it might make perfect sense... try your hardest to NOT sign with those stinkin' Cardinals! But honestly, best of luck to you wherever you wind up. You'll always have a big cheering section in Wisconsin. Thanks for busting your butt for Brewers fans.
  17. Via MLBTR. Troy Renck tweeted the details. FanGraphs' take
  18. I'm 99.9% sure this is the case. No, screw it, 100%. There's no way the Brewers are in on Fuentes now. Heyman just doesn't know enough about the Brewers to know the 40-man is now full.
  19. 44 with LA, 24 with Boston, & 40 with Atlanta. Not sure what number he'll choose, but I think it's a safe bet there'll be a 4 in it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. I'd really like to see the Brewers adopt selling high on relievers as an org. strategy (if that's possible). I don't believe the concept of the Closer's Mentality™ carries much (or any) importance. I'd like to see the Brewers exploit the many organizations around baseball that overvalue the closer role, and Axford's cheap salary could make him pretty valuable to the right team. That said, I don't think this is the time to move Axford. The Brewers are all-in on 2011, and he probably has more value this season to just be on the 25-man roster. I guess it would all depend on what the Crew could get in return (as with any potential trade), though.
  21. I don't agree that anything near a .300 OBP looks good batting in a lineup, let alone 2nd. I've given up on the dream of what Gomez could be... he is what he is, an outmaking machine that happens to be fast.
  22. Kentrail, Morris, & Komatsu would definitely have me checking the Huntsville box scores religiously. I agree with Kricket -- Morris at 3B would be interesting to see.
  23. A gamer, a fighter, and a hardworker? As long as he's gritty.Sait-y? Used as: "Saity really battled out there, and was only one pitch away from getting out of that jam."
  24. As long as he isn't from Maine.
