  1. Not everyone uses W-L as the way they evaluate a manager, since a manager can make a good move & not have it work out. Same logic that would be used to determine that a hard hit line drive that happened to be hit right at a fielder was still good contact. Additionally, Maddon's record has been compiled over a significantly longer stretch, & (mostly) in the toughest division in baseball year in & year out. It's disingenuous to suggest that you can accurately compare Roenicke & Maddon simply based on their managerial W-L records.

  3. Man, Luc cannot get back fast enough. That 5-8 in our lineup is absolutely brutal.
  4. Ha! Gotta love that the manager was out shagging flies in BP today. Have to say I've never seen that before.
  5. That's hilarious. Love it.
  6. After seeing your post I checked out Marquis' stats and stumbled across Jeff Juden's name. Yeesh. Homer, it's ok. They can't hurt you anymore.
  7. You see, what you do is... you just get the best out of them. You're all like, "Hey -- you over there! Gonna need your best today." And the other guy's all like, "Man, I really gotta give my best today." Simple.
  8. Your first paragraph sums up my feelings on Ron pretty well. Pretty crappy timing from the org. on pulling the trigger. You also capture my thoughts on Gardenhire. The amount of people who've expressed excitement about him both in this thread & elsewhere on the forum is... troubling. Just not a fan of the smallball that the Gardenhires of the world are convinced = Playing The Game The Right Way™. If it's Counsell, I'd be intrigued. Always has come across as an intelligent guy.
  9. The game preview 'articles' this year are really bad. Lacking in length, content, & quality.
  10. Kershaw, Lohse set to battle in series-opener By Earl Bloom / Special to MLB.com | 5/3/2015 6:17 PM ET Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw opposes Brewers right-hander Kyle Lohse on Monday night at Miller Park as the teams open a four-game series. Each pitcher is seeking his second 2015 victory. Kershaw, coming off his National League MVP and Cy Young season, is 1-2 with a 3.73 ERA though his first five starts this season. Kershaw is 5-4 with a 3.05 ERA in 10 career games (all starts) against the Brewers. He's struck out 66 in 65 innings. Lohse, like many of the Brewers, struggled out of the gate. He's 1-4 with a 7.28 ERA thought five starts. But he's pitched seven innings in each of his past two starts, including his lone victory April 23 against Cincinnati, when he allowed just two earned runs. In his career against the Dodgers, Lohse is 2-4 with a 4.35 ERA in 12 games (10 starts). Three things to know: • Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is hitting .385 vs Lohse (10-for-26, two home runs). Lohse, however, is a difficult matchup for shortstop Jimmy Rollins (.196, 9-for-46, two homers) and third baseman Juan Uribe (.174, 4-for-23). • Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun is hitting .300 (10-for-30), with one home run, vs. Kershaw. Former D-backs outfielder Gerardo Parra is at .346 (9-for-26) against the Dodgers' ace. Milwaukee hitters who struggle against Kershaw include shortstop Jean Segura (2-for-10) and outfielder Khris Davis (1-for-8). • The last time Kershaw pitched in Milwaukee was Aug. 10, 2014. He went eight innings in a 14-2 Dodgers victory. Braun had two of the six hits Kershaw allowed.

  12. Evidently he became nauseous standing at first. He stayed in Chicago under a doctor's care and the rest of the team left for Milwaukee. I'm sure he has a concussion. Appreciate the update (genuinely, don't take the rest of the tone of my post as being directed at you!). That's not surprising at all. Of course he got a concussion -- he took a big-league pitch to the head! But hey, let's let him walk it off...
  13. Ha ha! Joke's on the T-Rats... my plans changed & I couldn't go! But seriously, I do want to get out to see Medeiros throw as soon as I can.
  14. Shame on the Brewers' medical & coaching staffs for not pulling Segura after that HBP to his head. That you were going to risk anything with all that we now know about head injuries is disgusting. The player should not be the one making the decision to stay in the game (even though he then shortly after had to be the one to make the choice to come out).
  15. Nelson, Hammel to battle in series deciding game By Adam McCalvy / MLB.com | 5/2/2015 7:26 PM ET Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson will aim for a bounce-back outing while Cubs starter Jason Hammel seeks more of the same when the teams conclude a three-game series on Sunday at 1:20 p.m. CT Hammel has 23 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings this season, including seven strikeouts over eight shutout innings against the Pirates in his most recent start. He's been just as good against the Brewers, compiling a 5-0 record with a 1.85 ERA in six career starts, including a pair of scoreless starts against Milwaukee last season. Nelson, meanwhile, is coming off a 2 1/3-innings outing in Cincinnati in which he surrendered seven runs, all earned, on six hits and five walks and a pair of wild pitches. He's 0-2 with a 5.02 ERA in four career appearances (two starts) against the Cubs. Things to know about the game: • The only other active pitcher with a record of 5-0 or better against the Brewers is Braves right-hander Shelby Miller, the former Cardinal. Among active pitchers who have made at least five starts against the Brewers, only Madison Bumgarner has a better ERA (1.65) than Hammel's 1.85. Hammel's ERA against the Brewers is more than a run better than his mark against his next best opponent (3.07 ERA vs. San Francisco). • The Brewers reinstated Carlos Gomez from the disabled list on Saturday and reinstalled him as the leadoff hitter, where Gomez will likely remain for a few games. "Maybe after he gets a few at-bats we'll talk about it more. Possibly [a run-producing spot]," manager Ron Roenicke said. "We'll see after a few days, when he's swinging it well, what other guys are doing. If everybody is doing their job, we may just leave it the way it is." • A couple of streaks ride on this rubber match. The Cubs have not lost any of their last three series, and are seeking four straight unbeaten series for the first time since a six-series run in 2012. The Brewers are seeking their first series victory of the season after losing each of the first seven. Milwaukee is also seeking to win two in a row for the first time this season.

  17. Gomez looking forward to battling Arrieta in return By Adam McCalvy / MLB.com | 5/1/2015 6:18 PM ET When center fielder Carlos Gomez is taken off the disabled list and returns to the Brewers' lineup on Saturday afternoon, there will be no easing back into action. Gomez said he considers Cubs starter Jake Arrieta one of the best pitchers in baseball. "I can't wait … [to] have my debut again, against one of the best pitchers that we see," said Gomez, who has been on the DL since suffering a right hamstring strain on April 15. "The statistics probably don't say so, but that guy, for me, is the best pitcher in the National League. "I said early that he's going to be one of the top three pitchers in baseball. The way he pitches, I like it, so I'm excited, too, because I'm not going to face a nobody. I'm going to face a really good pitcher, and I know it's going to be tough. I don't like to face him, but yet I do, because that's how I know that I'm good, too." Arrieta has thrown four straight quality starts to begin his season. Four things to know about the game • The Brewers hope to have third baseman Aramis Ramirez back in the lineup after he was scratched Friday with a tight left hamstring. Manager Ron Roenicke said Ramirez tweaked that leg during Tuesday's loss in Cincinnati. "Aramis actually wanted to play [Friday]," Roenicke said. "We were hoping one day off [on Wednesday] would clear it, and it's still there. So, just to be cautious, we talked him out of playing." • Unbeaten in their last three series, the Cubs need a victory Saturday or Sunday for their first four-series unbeaten streak since a six-series run in 2012. The Brewers have lost each of their first seven series this season. • Gomez could provide a boost for a team that has been playing without three of its eight Opening Day position players. Second baseman Scooter Gennett and catcher Jonathan Lucroy remain on the DL, though Gennett was scheduled to begin a Minor League rehab assignment on Friday night. • Right-hander Mike Fiers (0-3, 5.79 ERA) is set to start for the Brewers. He has a 2-1 record and a 1.77 ERA in four outings (three starts) in his career against the Cubs.
