  1. If I had to pick from the options listed, I'd take A. But my preferred approach would be to see the franchise operated about the same in strong & in lean years -- if/when the right deal comes along for a player, you take it. If the Brewers somehow are 'in it' into May next year, I wouldn't want Stearns to force anything & trade a Braun or Lucroy just because. But at the same time, if a team came calling with a really good offer for a Nelson or Peralta or a Jungmann, I wouldn't turn it down because of the team's record, either. The Brewers are in a great position right now as they rebuild. We're already knocking on the door of having a top-5 system in the league, & there's still plenty of valuable players on the MLB roster. That should give Stearns & Co. the ability to be picky about any potential trades, along with being able to cycle in young talent (to help maintain fanbase excitement) that's almost ready to graduate from the minors. Even with a projected 90-100 loss MLB team, I'm really excited for 2016 -- going to be an important season.
  2. Well, jeez, with a history like that how can the Cards sign him in good conscience? That was a totally unclassy act. Molinia and Peralta are going to have to give him some lessons in how to be a good, upstanding citizen and role model for the children of Cardinal nation. Most notably, Chris Carpenter's
  3. Thank you for the belly-laugh. I'd thought about the Broxton name being kinda funny, given Jonathan's build compared to Keon's... but I guess enough time had passed from the Rodriguez-Betancourt deal that it'd fallen off my mental radar.
  4. I like the move. I think you traded a guy for more than his worth. To clarify, TheCrew07 was quoting snippets from Baseball America in that post.
  5. Thanks for this, right back at ya. He's young enough that it's probably way too early to start pigeonholing him into any specific role, but that profile of his repertoire reads like a guy who could possibly slide into a power bullpen role if he can't work deep enough into games or can't add that changeup as a third pitch. Actually, the profile of a 6'5" righty with a mid- to upper-90s fastball that lacks movement & with a big breaking curveball makes me think of Axford.
  6. Your lack of knowledge -- but more notably your disinterest in acquiring any knowledge -- on the players added in the trades this offseason is a bit much. Your opinion on any of them is basically empty. You were around & very actively posting all during the developmental build up to contention & then MLB contention in the late 2000s-early 2010. But it's like you can't even remember that that's how the Brewers built their best squad since the glory days of the 80s. I'm sure this post will do absolutely nothing to influence your opinion, & strangely will actually probably embolden it even more. But it's really, really tiring to read post after post from you knocking trades when you do zero homework & frankly seem to take a smug pride in not being able to be bothered because you've seen it all before & don't need to learn anything. I get that it genuinely matters a lot to you if the 2016 team wins 78 games compared to 59, & I don't find your frustration there irritating at all -- to each his own. But enough of the self-righteous rants about young players that you've never seen or even bothered to try to learn a little about.
  7. I think I can speak for the entire BF.net community when I say that we're all extremely disappointed in both you & your wife. Get it together, man!
  8. Yes a reality check that the BR similar batters are pointless and horribly inaccurate. You really think those are similar batters? Really? I think it's accurate to say that trading Khrush now would be the definition of selling high. He'll be entering his age-28 season, & is under team control through 2019. If there's a GM (or two) out there that thinks he might well be the next Bautista/late-blooming slugger & is willing to pay for him, Stearns should cash in & never look back. I don't think he's Nolan Reimold or Tyler Colvin as a hitter, but I do think the Brewers should be ready to deal if someone comes along & values Davis highly. .250/.315/.494/.809 career big-league line, with a .230/.285/.451/.736 line away from Miller Park. He's clearly not a centerpiece to build around for this club.
  9. I agree that his value isn't likely to change by the trade deadline, but the market for him will almost certainly shrink. In the offseason, you're almost always going to have more clubs building to 'win now' than you will mid-summer.
  10. Interested to see how Stearns approaches team-building. So far, I like the K-Rod trade, & I'm undecided on the Villar-Sneed deal. Stearns must be a believer in Villar. I don't think Sneed is a top-tier talent, but he feels like a guy that could pitch his way up & perform, a la Dave Bush or Mike Fiers. I hope that more & more resources will be poured into scouting & player development.
  11. Love to see this mentality. I'm sure/assuming it's what Denson is hoping for -- basically it's 'we will support him just like any other teammate'. Play ball!
  12. Love the contributions to this thread. Thanks guys!
  13. [rural auto mechanic's voice] Welp, that's yer problum right thar...[/] Dude is a bit of a knob I guess that and Bowa too. If you watch it those are the only two that have that reaction. I think that batter was actually laughing at everything that was going on. Yeah. If you're in a baseball-rumble & the instigators are Francoeur & Bowa, chances are good that it might've started from nothing at all.

  15. Look, there's a right way & a wrong way to dope. If you're not doping the right way, really you're insulting the history & legacy of the game.
  16. A bit nitpicky, but the guy that'd get bumped to DH would be Davis. Santana's athleticism & arm have to put him a clear level above Khrush on defense.
  17. Saw only the clip of his HR, but what a nice swing that was. Short, & quiet (except for the part where he hit the ball at about 150mph). Looks like it should be a pretty repeatable swing if he can settle in at the big-league level.
  18. I don't recall reading anything that touted Santana as a CF candidate, but it'll be interesting to see how the Brewers manage the OF rotation. Really excited for the call up, & for Domingo!
  19. Really great story, & I'll echo others in praising the Brewers & MLB for how they've handled this & supported David so far. I hope he gets a chance to be the first openly gay active MLB player!
  20. Sums up my position perfectly. Nail on the head for me as well. Doug has always seemed like a good man, & has fostered a happy & positive culture in the clubhouse over the years. I'd much rather just flat-out win, but seeing the players happy & enjoying each other along the way has always meant something to me as well. Maybe this is Captain Obvious stuff, but the next hire is going to be massively important. Aside from market size, it's an attractive position imo. Solid farm system & you'll be sitting very high in the draft order in your first year. So there's good young talent in place, & you have the chance to come in and possibly add the top prospect into the org with the first draft pick next June. I hope the club is not only serious about finding a fresher-minded GM, but more importantly I hope they're capable of that. It takes talent to spot fresh new talent.
  21. Mench was 28 years old. Flores is 23. Not even close. Yep. And Wheeler isn't a 30+ year old reliever. This trade obviously isn't the Carlos Lee trade redux... it's clearly the Suppan contract all over again, multiplied by the Jeffrey Hammonds signing, to the salad tongs/suitcase power. Aka literally worse than Nickelback.
