Oh, great. Another low-upside college arm! -
McClendon has always struck MD as pretty dense. Wish I could say it was surprising to hear from a Baseball Guy™

What a weird couple of days for FIFA. Didn't see this coming. I figured it'd be a second-in-command-type to fall on the sword today

Love the bump for this thread!

Here's Brad's feature on Cravy, in honor of his call to the bigs. Some excellent context for those unfamiliar with Tyler -- Going to the Show: Tyler Cravy Posted by Brad Krause on May 31, 2015 Tyler Cravy was 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A Colorado Springs this season. Profile: With a 17 inning game on Sunday necessitating some additional pitching help at the the major league level, the Brewers promoted Tyler Cravy to Milwaukee, returning pitcher Tyler Wagner to the minor leagues. Not even in the starting rotation when Double-A Huntsville opened the 2014 season, Cravy made a name for himself with an outstanding start to his year before injury shut him down for most of the second half of 2014. Drafted in the 17th round in 2009, Cravy bounced between the rotation and the bullpen early on in his career, spending 2009 in Maryvale and 2010 at Helena. He split the 2011 season between Helena and Wisconsin and returned to Wisconsin in 2012, where he posted a 3.38 earned run average in 24 relief appearances. Cravy advanced to Brevard County in 2013 and enjoyed a successful season in the Florida State League, appearing in 25 games and making nine starts. He finished the season with a record of 4-2 and a 2.04 ERA and was selected to play in the Arizona Fall League. In ten games with the Surprise Saguaros, Cravy allowed just five earned runs striking out 16 batters in 16 1/3 innings of work and tossing two scoreless frames in the AFL Championship game. After a promotion to Double-A Huntsville to begin 2014, Cravy found himself in the bullpen to start the season. When injuries opened up a spot in the Stars rotation, Cravy grabbed it and never looked back, going 8-1 with a 1.72 ERA and earning the starting nod in the Southern League’s All-Star game. A move to Triple-A Nashville followed, but Cravy suffered a strained oblique muscle in his first start for the Sounds and was sidelined for about two months. He returned to make a pair of rehab appearances in late August in Maryvale to finish out his season and earned a spot in big league camp this spring as a non-roster invitee with Milwaukee. Cravy was sent to Triple-A Colorad Springs in March and made nine starts for the Sky Sox, going 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA. Strengths: Cravy features a low 90’s fastball with good sink to it as well as a slider and changeup. He mixes up his pitches well and pitches with a plan, doing a good job of keeping the ball down in the strike zone. Cravy has shown steady improvement from year-to-year and his versatility provides the Brewers with options as a starter or as a long man out of the pen. Weaknesses: Cravy’s not overpowering, but he’s not a soft tosser by any means. His strikeout numbers were better as a reliever than as a starter and while he will give you some innings, he hasn’t worked all that deep in to games, averaging slightly over five innings per start this season. In limited opportunities with the bat, Cravy hasn’t done much, posting a .136 batting average during his minor league career. Future: The 25-year-old righty has flown under the radar for most of his minor league career, but he’s put his name in the conversation for a rotation spot long-term. Even if he can’t crack the rotation or struggles as a starter, Cravy could still be a valuable part of future Brewers teams as a bullpen arm, working as a long man and/or spot starter.

Picture of Tyler Cravy today courtesy of Brad Krause (bkrause2 on the BF forums), from his 5.10.15 Sky Sox gallery. Make sure to check in regularly at Brad's stellar Miller Park Prospects. Probably the best in-depth coverage of the Brewers' farm system. Brad also has regularly contributed to the BF.net MiLB forum's Link Report.

Brewers-Cardinals Preview ESPN Staff Although Matt Holliday is reaching base at a historic pace, the St. Louis Cardinals are having trouble delivering a timely hit. As the outfielder closes in on the franchise's record on-base streak, the Cardinals will try to avoid losing consecutive home games for only the second time Tuesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers. After missing one start due to the flu, Holliday singled and walked in Monday's 1-0 loss to extend his NL record by reaching base in a 45th straight game to open the season. Derek Jeter set the MLB mark of 53 games in 1999. The six-time All-Star can now tie Ray Sanders (1944), Solly Hemus (1953) and Albert Pujols (2001) for St. Louis' fourth-best on-base streak since 1914 at 48 dating to last season. Stan Musial still holds the team record of 55, set in 1943. Holliday appears poised to continue his run, reaching base in 24 consecutive home games versus Milwaukee (18-34). His eighth-inning single put runners on first and third with one out Monday, but Jhonny Peralta and Yadier Molina struck out against Jeremy Jeffress to end the threat. The Cardinals went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position, leaving them 6 for 37 (.162) in those spots while totaling 11 runs over their last five games. They've lost back-to-back games only once at Busch Stadium -- May 15-16 against Detroit. "We're going a good job of putting ourselves in those situations -- that's all you can ask for," outfielder Jason Heyward said. St. Louis (33-18) certainly hasn't done much to help Lance Lynn (3-4, 3.41 ERA), who ranks near the bottom of the NL with a 2.82 run-support average. Lynn, though, hasn't been as sharp since allowing one run in winning two straight starts in mid-May. The right-hander gave up five runs and 10 hits in six innings in a 5-0 loss at Kansas City on May 22, before yielding three runs and issuing four walks over six on Wednesday. He did not get a decision in that 4-3 home win over Arizona. Lynn had been 4-0 with a 1.49 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings over his previous seven outings versus Milwaukee before surrendering a season-high six runs and 10 hits over five innings in a 6-3 road loss April 26. He's 1-0 with a 1.96 ERA in his last four home meetings after allowing one run over five innings in a 4-2 victory April 15. Adam Lind hit a two-run homer in Milwaukee's victory, but that's his only hit in eight at-bats in the matchup. Lind is expected to return to the lineup after being limited to pinch-hit duty the past two games due to a sore back. Gerardo Parra should be pleased to see Lynn since he's 11 for 22 with two homers, three triples and four doubles off him. However, Carlos Gomez is 3 for 22 with 12 strikeouts and Aramis Ramirez is 3 for 26. The Brewers are batting a major league-worst .227 after Gomez had two of the team's six hits and the lone RBI on Monday. Still, they're seeking a season high-tying third straight win as right-hander Tyler Cravy makes his debut. Cravy, who was 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA in nine starts at Triple-A Colorado Springs, got the call because Matt Garza was used in Sunday's 17-inning win. "We need to keep it up, and hopefully, we can do it again tomorrow," Monday's winning pitcher Mike Fiers said.

He had a 1.45 ERA through his first 3 MLB starts (he's 22 btw), & then got hit in the face by a line drive. Since then, yes, he has struggled. What a chump! Seriously, dude. http://i.imgur.com/RxQUmXA.gif Video -- link is a tad bit NSFL ... http://m.dbacks.mlb.com/ari/video/topic/26271672/v93224483/colari-bradley-exits-after-getting-hit-with-liner/?query=archie%2Bbradley http://i.imgur.com/VbR4s0t.jpg Wagner is two years older & was in AA prior to being needed for an emergency start. The two aren't comparable.

Brewers-Cardinals Preview ESPN staff The St. Louis Cardinals have won each of their last six series against the Milwaukee Brewers and virtually all signs point to that run continuing this week. The top team in the majors will also seek its seventh win in eight games Monday night against the team with MLB's worst record, who could also be weary after ending a seven-game skid. St. Louis (33-17) has taken 13 of 19 over Milwaukee (17-34) and won two of three in each of the two series this season, both in April. The Cardinals will take a 20-6 home record into this one following Sunday's 3-1 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers. St. Louis took two of three from the Dodgers despite producing seven runs. The Cardinals, who have an MLB-best 2.73 ERA, gave up six runs and only a solo homer kept them from their second shutout in the series Sunday. "Every series is huge and when you play really good teams, it goes a long way coming down the stretch," outfielder Jason Heyward said. They'll next face a Brewers team that's batting a major league-worst .228 and is near the bottom with 3.8 runs per game. Milwaukee had a season-high 16 hits in the end to its lengthy skid Sunday but needed 17 innings for a 7-6 victory over Arizona. The team is expected to get Jonathan Lucroy back from a fractured left toe Monday but Adam Lind might sit because of a sore back. Lucroy, who hasn't played since April 20, hit .301 with 53 doubles and 69 RBI in 2014 but was batting .133 in 12 games this season. "To me, we're getting one of the best players in the game back playing again," manager Craig Counsell told MLB's official website. "(He's) one of the best catchers in the game. That's something worth putting a smile on your face." Jaime Garcia (1-1, 3.46 ERA) will try to stifle Lucroy and the Brewers with a better performance than in his most recent outing. The left-hander, though, earned his first win of the season with a 6-4 victory over Arizona on Tuesday. Garcia gave up four runs in six innings after allowing two runs in seven innings May 21 in his return from surgery on his pitching shoulder, a 5-0 loss to the New York Mets. He's facing the Brewers for the first time since May 17, 2013, and is 6-4 with a 3.39 ERA in 14 career starts including two in the 2011 NLCS. The Brewers were slated to start Matt Garza but needed him to pitch the final five innings in Sunday's marathon. Mike Fiers (1-5, 4.53) is expected to start Monday and will pitch on normal rest. The right-hander was given three days off before allowing two runs and eight hits over five innings in a 3-1 loss to San Francisco on Wednesday. He's 2-2 with a 1.78 ERA in six career starts against St. Louis, but lasted just four-plus innings in his latest matchup, a 6-3 victory April 26. It's unclear if he'll have to face Matt Holliday, who has reached base safely in a franchise-record 44 consecutive games to begin this season. The Cardinals outfielder was scratched Sunday because of the flu. Holliday's streak is the longest in the majors since Derek Jeter's MLB-record 53 games in 1999. He's 1 for 11 with five walks lifetime versus Fiers. Jhonny Peralta is batting .522 against Milwaukee this season, boosting his average in 30 career matchups to .376.

Wagner set for MLB debut vs. Anderson, D-backs By Brandon Curry / MLB.com | 5/30/2015 9:48 PM ET Brewers rookie starter Tyler Wagner's strategy for his Major League debut on Sunday afternoon against Chase Anderson and the D-backs: Slow things down. "Trying not to notice the 40,000 people here at Miller Park is going to be quite the task, but I think I'm up for it," Wagner said before Saturday's game against Arizona. Wagner's performance this season at Double-A Biloxi convinced the Brewers to bypass other young arms at Triple-A and choose the 24-year-old as the replacement for the injured Wily Peralta. Wagner went 5-1 with a 2.01 ERA in nine starts with Biloxi, allowing just 12 earned runs over 53 2/3 innings. Opponents batted just .231 (45-for-195) against the No. 11 player on MLB.com's list of the top 30 Brewers prospects, and he surrendered only one home run. Arizona's Anderson has been stellar over his last five starts, giving up just five earned runs in 32 1/3 innings. Things to know about the game: • Anderson lost his only start against the Brewers on June 19 of last year at Chase Field, allowing three runs (two earned) over six innings. • Adam Lind's bat came to life in Friday's 7-5 loss to the D-backs, as he snapped a 2-for-24 slump by going 3-for-3 with a double, home run and 3 RBIs. "It's good to see, for sure," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. "It's a bat in our lineup that we need to get going." • D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt entered Saturday's game hitting .476 (20-for-42) off Brewers pitching in 10 games at Miller Park. That includes nine doubles, four home runs and 12 RBIs.
