  1. Last night's IGT was done with the template as well. I wasn't free to get the IGT posts up earlier in this season.
  2. At least most people would know what it means. I have Brewer plates with "19 HOF". Most people have no idea what it means. Went to Saturday's Brewer game and the person taking my parking pass asked if it was for B.J. Hoffman? I asked her if she meant B.J. Surhoff or Trevor Hoffman, got a blank stare, then I said it's not related to either of them and then drove away because I figured I had wasted enough time of the people behind me in line. I need to come up with different plates. I'm tired of answering questions about the meaning of my plates. I would be stunned if more people knew what "8 LIES" meant than "19 HOF"
  3. Cardinals' Reynolds welcomes former Brewers mates By Adam McCalvy / MLB.com | 4/13/2015 7:01 PM ET It's reunion week for Mark Reynolds, who experienced Milwaukee's collapse last fall before signing with St. Louis over the winter. The teams are meeting this week at Busch Stadium for the Cardinals' home-opening series, which continues Wednesday with a Wily Peralta-Lance Lynn duel. "It's a business," said Reynolds, who is serving as a backup at first and third base. "You have to keep playing." During batting practice on Monday afternoon, Reynolds stationed himself near the visitors' dugout and greeted former teammates as they emerged for team stretch. One by one, players shouted "Grumpy!" -- the tongue-in-cheek nickname which inspired T-shirts last season -- and offered hugs. The two teams are different, Reynolds conceded. The Cardinals are generally a more veteran group, fueled by pitching. But if there's a secret "Cardinal Way," Reynolds has yet to discover it. "I haven't been here long enough to figure that out yet," he said. "Talk to me next time we play and I'll see about it." Things to know about this game: • This year marks the 70th anniversary of Jackie Robinson signing his first professional contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers organization in 1945, which was the first step toward his eventual breaking of the color barrier on April 15, 1947. As has been tradition each April 15 since 2009, Major League Baseball will celebrate Jackie Robinson Day with all players and on-field personnel wearing No. 42 during that day's games, including the Civil Rights Game at Dodger Stadium. The annual celebration to commemorate the anniversary of Robinson breaking Baseball's color barrier in 1947 will feature on-field, pregame ceremonies in ballparks throughout the league. The Cardinals' ceremony will honor Dr. Ralph Waldo Emerson Jr., the club's first black scout. • First baseman Adam Lind has been a bright spot for an otherwise spotty Brewers offense. When he doubled in the sixth inning Monday, Lind had reached safely in all seven games with his new team, including 15 of his first 28 plate appearances. • After using his bullpen liberally during the team's weekend series in Cincinnati, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny was hopeful that Tuesday's off-day would allow his relievers to reset and therefore all be available for the second game of the series. Jordan Walden and Seth Maness each threw in all three games of that Reds series -- Maness has pitched in each of the past four games -- while four other relievers threw on both Saturday and Sunday. Carlos Villanueva was unavailable on Monday after throwing 45 pitches on Sunday.

  5. Fwiw I just edited in the IGT template into jjkoestler's lead post
  6. I think somewhere in that rule book would be that an intentional HBP delivered by an STL pitcher shouldn't count as a ball for a pitcher's balls/strikes ratio. Don't wanna punish the guy for playing the game the right way. A HBP delivered against an STL batter, on the other hand, is punishable by death.
  7. So your opinion stays the same, that he's significantly worse than what he actually produced last season?
  8. Do people forget 2012?.... I agree completely, but he did have a post PED year that was MVP caliber. It is pretty naive to just assume, at this point, that 2012 was a "Post PED" year. I'd prefer to just look at him "Post PED suspension", and he hasn't looked anywhere near the same. Yes there've been lots of injuries, but lots of injuries are symptomatic of a player no longer being on PED's. I'm not saying that I am 100% certain on this, but it certainly looks suspicious It's really not. He was likely tested a ton during the '12 season.
  9. When the topic of new stadium development gets studied by neutral organizations, it's graded out as neutral or a net negative for the community/ies it's in basically every time. That's not to say that there isn't a positive impact, but generally speaking, the money doesn't tend to balance out. Now this case with the Bucks might be unique, since there are potentially many non-public funding sources. But the entity that benefits most from a new stadium is the team that owns it.

  11. Another vote for the Club level, especially the infield Club
  12. I'm more concerned with Melvin talking about Batting Average. Hopefully he's just dumbing it down for the casual fan. What is Scafer's OBP, BABIP & OPS as a pinch hitter? Is he really that effective? I sincerely think Melvin actually looks at Batting Average as a viable stat to compare players with and evaluate players with. Somewhat bizarre Pretty sure he picked the only thing going for Schafer... You weren't kidding -- .270/.304/.349/.654 This team needs a bench bat with power. Paging a 2015 clone of Matt Stairs or Russell Branyan...
  13. Do you use a smartphone? Gmail? You're probably already utilizing the cloud!
  14. The bench is just crying out for a slugging LH PH type. I think that if you add that into the mix, it's a solid bench. I'm confused about Clark getting optioned... he's no star-in-waiting, but as a cheap LH bat with pop off the bench I'm not sure how much better a club can realistically do. Even if his defense is awful, just... don't use him on defense aside from the very rare instance where you have no choice.
  15. And the Brewers didn't even wind up being close on any of those three offers... the same will be true with Gomez. Attanasio may show a desire to keep soon-to-be-FA-stars, but he sure hasn't shown the willingness (or perhaps ability) to make realistic contract offers. And, like you note, it's very likely not in the organization's best interest to commit that much money to one player, who'll be on the wrong side of 30.
  16. You only have to go back to 2013 or 2012, not all the way to '09. And through the end of June last season, his OPS was at .840. It wouldn't surprise me if he's done as a good to great hitter, but it also wouldn't surprise me if he's able to bounce back & still be an effective bat... that is, until he goes down injured.
  17. Great, so he won't be able to pitch at all in July/August, or any road games all year in AZ, TX, FL, Atlanta, etc.? Well, he was born & raised in Alabama (including going to 'Bama for college)... so I'm guessing he's quite used to dealing with heat.
  18. 6 of his 12 starts last season were Quality Starts (not a perfect stat, but a quick & dirty tool in this case), his debut was 5.2 shutout innings, & he had another 5 inning 2-run start. For me, that's basically a 75% success rate out of a rookie. Definitely not something to make you think he's a lock to become a top-flight starter or anything, but I think that's actually pretty impressive production out of a guy in his rookie season. People are jumping on the 'Nelson isn't ready' bandwagon way too hot & heavy right now imo. It's pretty common that a young player will have mixed results that make his overall line look unfavorable. The development (not stats) is key, and frankly I just don't think any of us have seen enough of Nelson at the big-league level to form an informed opinion yet. Like another poster pointed out, very very similar things were said about Peralta in his first go-round.
  19. No. Just no. Stop it. If Braun is back to his 2007-2012 form, it means an average OPS of .943, and an average of 34 homers and 107 RBI. Adrian Beltre is the only third baseman in the majors who even comes close in terms of OPS, and he is still 64 points behind in OPS, not to mention being short by 15 home runs and 30 RBI. Josh Donaldson is the only third baseman (29 HR, 98 RBI last year) who would come close in terms of the homer and RBI totals. Donaldson's OPS was 145 points lower than Braun's 2007-2012 totals. In the 2007-2012 seasons, Braun's OPS was 70 points higher than Aramis Ramirez's. If he takes over, that's an undeniable offensive upgrade at third base. In fact, should Braun be back to form, he will regularly be among the top third basemen in OPS, homers and RBI for years to come. That opens up right field - so if the Brewers make a run for Justin Upton in free agency. Then take Acria or Segura and use them with Victor Roache as the centerpiece to make a trade for either a first basemen (if the decision is to keep Lucroy behind the plate) or a #1 starter (if Lucroy moves to first). Offensively, that is a 2016 lineup that can have its way with the pitching staffs of the Cubs, Cardinals, and Pirates... I'm assuming you did watch him play when he was lining up at 3B, but every time you post about Braun to 3B I swear it's like you got the Men In Black memory-wipe regarding his defense... like it never even existed.
  20. This -- all of this. Thank you for sharing, bcdue, & best wishes. Your positive attitude will go a long way toward helping you get through everything.
  21. Heh. I'm guessing the quality of work is really, really high. Heh.
