Apologies for the mistake on the TV channel listing in the lead post today. I went with what the MLB Gameday page showed without thinking. My punishment is that I'm a Charter customer & the game wasn't carried at all (at least that I could find). Although, maybe that's not exactly a punishment given this turd of a team...

Reds, Brewers out to turn around recent struggles By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com | 4/19/2015 8:18 PM ET Two National League Central teams that have struggled in the early part of the season will be seeking to reverse their fortunes when the Reds and Brewers open their four-game series Monday. Milwaukee, which was swept in three games at Pittsburgh to complete a 1-5 road trip, is off to the worst start in franchise history with a 2-10 record. Cincinnati, after a 4-0 start, has dropped its last three series in a row. Wily Peralta will start for the Brewers against the Reds' Anthony DeSclafani. Things to know about this game: • The Brewers have gone six games in a row without a home run and have hit only three for the season. • DeSclafani is coming off the best start of his young career, with seven scoreless innings and two hits allowed vs. the Cubs on Tuesday. He faced the Brewers once in relief last season for the Marlins, throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings. • Peralta is 3-3 with a 2.88 ERA in eight career starts against the Reds, and he went 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA (15 IP, 1 ER) in two starts against them last year. • There is a chance that Reds leadoff hitter Billy Hamilton could return to the lineup on Monday. Hamilton suffered a sore right groin on Saturday and did not start Sunday, but was feeling better.

TooLiveBrew replied to TooLiveBrew's topic in Archived Game Threads
I'm heading out of town today, so another mod will need to edit in the lineups once they're announced this afternoon. Please & thank you! I also probably won't be home in time to get the IGT up for tomorrow's game. -

Lohse, Crew look to ignite bats vs. Pirates By Adam Berry / MLB.com | 4/17/2015 8:03 PM ET PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates and Brewers, two of the Majors' least productive offensive clubs so far this season, will look to get on track Saturday night in the second game of their weekend set at PNC Park. Right-hander Kyle Lohse is set to take the ball for Milwaukee opposite Pittsburgh left-hander Jeff Locke. Three things to know about this game: • Locke defeated the Brewers at Miller Park on April 10, allowing two runs over six innings as the Pirates won, 6-2. The Bucs won eight of Locke's final nine starts at PNC Park last season as he went 4-1 with a 3.17 ERA during that stretch. • Lohse carries an 0-2 record and 11.17 ERA into Saturday's start, but there are reasons for optimism. After an ugly season debut, Lohse allowed four runs over 6 1/3 innings his last time out. And he's fared well against the Pirates (11-4, 3.81 ERA) throughout his career. • With Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez sidelined at least two or three weeks by a strained right hamstring, shortstop Jean Segura has started the last two games in the leadoff spot. -

I know you're pretty vocally down on them, but really the list from recent years is pretty good. Fielder, Braun, Weeks, Gallardo, Hardy, Hart, Lucroy, Fiers, Peralta, Nelson, Davis, Gatewood (so far), Harrison, Medeiros, Arcia, Taylor, Lara, Maldonado... just off the top of my head. -

Pirates ready for a 2nd crack at Brewers' Nelson By Adam Berry / MLB.com | 4/16/2015 7:15 PM ET After meeting last weekend at Miller Park, the Pirates and Brewers will reconvene for a three-game series beginning Friday night at PNC Park. Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson will look to repeat his dominant 2015 debut, while Pirates lefty Jeff Locke is seeking his second win after beating Milwaukee on Friday. Things to know about this game • Carlos Gomez won't play in this game or any other game for some time. Just as the Brewers departed Busch Stadium on Thursday, word came that the center fielder would be placed on the disabled list with a right-hamstring injury. A corresponding roster move is expected before Friday's series opener at PNC Park. Gerardo Parra and Logan Schafer will fill in in center field for Gomez, who will be evaluated next week to determine how much time he'll miss. • Nelson silenced the Pirates' bats Saturday thanks in large part to his new curveball, allowing two ground-ball singles and setting a career high with nine strikeouts over seven innings. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle remarked that Nelson was not the same pitcher they'd seen on tape. So how do the Bucs prepare for Nelson this time around? "I don't know of any way to prep other than to prep for the best guy you've ever seen, to count on him having his 'A' game," Hurdle said. "I think our guys, they're definitely looking forward to the challenge of seeing him again." • The Brewers could say the same about Locke, who permitted two runs over six innings on Friday. Locke will be pitching on a full week of rest; he owns a career 4.50 ERA in 13 starts following six or more days. His presence on the mound could mean a day off for Milwaukee second baseman Scooter Gennett, who had a terrible night against Locke at Miller Park. • Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli saw his 19-game on-base streak, the longest active mark in the Majors, come to an end Wednesday.

Nothing less than a bronze statue right next to the other Milwaukee baseball legends like Aaron, Yount, Selig, etc!

As much as I'm not in favor of canning a manager (because I can count on one hand how many in MLB I believe are actual net positives), but that's the answer imo if you want to hold someone accountable. When there's a team-wide malaise that seemingly dates back to last summer, I think you have to follow the chain of command up to the manager. He's the one tasked with being responsible for the team as a whole on a day-to-day basis. I don't know if firing Roenicke would wind up making a difference or not (likely not), but it wouldn't be just in reaction to a week or two of this season. You can point to the last 3 months of last season as well. And it's not just the team losing some games, it's... that it looks like the same core group of players has kinda lost the ability to compete on a regular basis. I'm playing devil's advocate here... I personally wouldn't fire Roenicke. But I can certainly see a case being made to do so.

Cards, Crew set for rubber match in St. Louis By Adam McCalvy / MLB.com | 4/16/2015 2:35 AM ET The Brewers' ongoing effort to find an offensive rhythm continues against the Cardinals' John Lackey on Thursday, when the teams meet for an afternoon series finale at Busch Stadium. While catcher Jonathan Lucroy's slump has garnered most of the notice because of its severity, he's not the Crew's only middle-of-the-order hitter searching for production. "It's all of us," Lucroy said. "Even [leadoff man Carlos Gomez] is a lot better. 'Brauny' [Ryan Braun], 'Rami' [Aramis Ramirez] hasn't been swinging that well. All of us, when we start clicking together, I think it's going to be nice." Things to know about this game: • Still a newbie to the National League, Lackey has faced the Brewers just three times in his 13-year career. Two of those starts came with St. Louis last season, and Milwaukee knocked him around for eight earned runs over 13 innings. Cardinals starting pitchers have opened the season strong, however, with five quality starts in the first six games. The Cardinals had 91 quality starts a year ago, their fifth-highest total since 2000. • Brewers starter Mike Fiers is coming off a five-run, five-inning loss to the Pirates, but has some brief but positive history on his side for Thursday's start. He is 2-1 with a 1.30 ERA in six career games (four starts) against the Cardinals, including a 1-1 record with a 1.98 ERA in two starts last season and a 1-1 record with a 1.29 ERA in four games (two starts) at Busch Stadium. • The Cardinals won four of six series finales between the two teams last season, including each of the last three, on the way to beating the Brewers in 12 of 19 matchups.

The Brewers' competitive resurgence was fueled almost entirely by prospects. Yes, young players (heck, most players) very frequently don't make the bigs &/or don't reach lofty expectations. But that's not a good reason for a club the size of the Brewers to stay away from that franchise-building model -- it's the only one we can afford, both figuratively & literally.
