  1. Not to mention that said forum is the irreputable NY Post Joel Sherman is someone whose opinion about the Brewers should mean, to informed Brewers fans, about what it's actually worth... literally nothing. He has absolutely zero clue about this club.
  2. Because they play an unbalanced schedule and the difference between the 2 wild cards teams is so small that which one plays on is simply not a big deal. They could either add more rounds of playoffs and dilute the playing field like the really bad playoff systems do or they can go to this system where the day after the regular system we get these amazingly important and awesome games. The system also gives division winners a leg up on wild card teams which is nothing but a good thing, considering the wild card teams have to blow their best pitcher before the real playoffs. This system is brilliant. Reading this post is actually the first time I've felt good about the current playoff setup. A one-game playoff after a 162-game season is too random imo, but allowing just 1 more club into the postseason after the 162-game grind feels like a fair reward for that last team in.
  3. Absolutely, 100% no. From what can be seen from the outside looking in, Melvin seems to be playing this very well so far.
  4. Beachy isn't expected back until May, unless something has changed in the last 1-2 weeks EDIT: http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/mlb/6400/brandon-beachy
  5. Yep, but even that is a massive upgrade from where the club was even just 5-10 years ago. Not to mention that 'just' a back-end SP saves your team from purchasing that on the FA market at something like $8-10M/yr. You can use guys like Jungmann for sure and they do have value. Im pretty bullish on him because of his high floor, so Im not cutting him down as a player. Some mentioned him as a possible trade for Pap which is why I brought him up and immediately suggested Jungmann for Pap+ contract is an over pay. But you don't win championships when guys like him are your "next wave". You need to bring on future All Stars, not just future replacement level types. Yeah, we don't disagree on anything here. I'm talking about how nice it is to have some depth of pitching, not that we have elite prospects.
  6. What is this strange new world where the Brewers have pitching depth (& most of it home-grown)? This is the issue with the Brewers farm system the past few years. Lots of guys who will play in the majors, few that project to be plus plus though. Jungmann is the prototype Brewer Prospect IMHO. Will play, probably start, but back end type. Hopefully that is changing with the last draft and Lara, Coulter, Taylor. Yep, but even that is a massive upgrade from where the club was even just 5-10 years ago. Not to mention that 'just' a back-end SP saves your team from purchasing that on the FA market at something like $8-10M/yr.
  7. What is this strange new world where the Brewers have pitching depth (& most of it home-grown)?
  8. I'm really liking how Melvin is handling this situation. I hope he is in fact digging in & not open to giving up a prospect of any real significance.
  9. If Kintzler is part of a deal for Papelbon I wouldn't be upset. I like Kintzler, but I don't think he's as important going forward as Jeffress & Thornburg. I'll echo the sentiments of others that I like the Perez signing as a basically zero-risk/high upside type of move.
  10. I just took a closer look at Viciedo's splits & am less enthusiastic about him as an option. Said v.LHP splits are as follows -- Career: .837 (487 PA) 2014: .679 (151 PA) 2013: .709 (118 PA) 2012: 1.033 (133 PA) 2011: 1.020 (35 PA) So the reality is that, basically, his off-the-charts 2012 is heavily skewing his career OPS against lefties. In fact, he posted higher OPS numbers against righties in 2014 & 2013.
  11. Congrats, man! Talk about patience... your patience looks to finally be paying off!
  12. I'd be interested in Viciedo, regardless of defensive limitations. That is some serious mash against lefties. Parra could always be used as a later-innings defensive replacement &/or counter to the inevitable ROOGYs that'd be trotted out later in games to neutralize Viciedo.
  13. I think he's suggesting the Brewers look for pitchers who are being undervalued simply because they are under 6' 2" but have the stats or other indicators that they are being undervalued. I don't think the Brewers have been targeting under 6' 2" guys in the draft. Ahhhhhh yes. Me fail English... possible.
  14. I think this sells Lind pretty short. Frankly, he projects to be a better offensive 1B than Fielder at this point (even if only v. RHPs). I'm not sure if the difference between Shields>Nelson is bigger than what I view to be Lind>Fielder. I think this team has a realistic shot at contention in 2015 as currently constructed. I don't think they're WS or even divisional favorites, but I do think they're legit.
  15. I might be missing a joke here, but that's exactly what they've been doing (as far as drafting) for the past 3-5 seasons. EDIT: I am dumb & can't reading the comprehensions.
  16. I know I saw this mistake last year or the year before, but ESPN again just ran an incorrect stock shot of the "Wisconsin Capitol" during tonight's IU@UW broadcast -- iirc the last time I posted about this, another poster noted that it was the Minnesota state capitol. *shake of the head*
  17. "Cotty's a guy that isn't just limited to facing lefties -- he can get righties out too." http://i.imgur.com/tmeY0Ha.png Fixed. Nice, good call
  18. "Well he's a guy that isn't just limited to facing lefties -- he can get righties out too." http://i.imgur.com/tmeY0Ha.png
  19. K-Rod at this point in his career imo is a classic case of scouting v. stats. Watching him pitch in person is a lot more informative than parsing his stats. He's not a player who should be relied upon for the most critical situations anymore unless he's in favorable matchups. His mechanics are wild, which was fine when he was bringing serious FB heat... but now when he leaves a FB over the plate, it often gets crushed. His changeup is good enough that he still gets a lot of outs, but in general he's a boom or bust type of pitcher now. If he's the 2nd- or 3rd-best reliever on your team, that's probably fine. But if he's going to be the #1 guy in your 'pen, that's probably not a good thing.
  20. That's correct. The estimate I heard is that this type of revenue (which would include taxes on both home & visiting player & coach salaries) is currently about $6.5M annually. Not sure how much it will realistically be able to be raised, & what kind of impact that will mean on the funding of the arena. It also means that those tax dollars will not be available for the other functions they currently are used to fund.
  21. I wonder if or how extreme defensive shifts have contributed to the lower BB rates & higher K rates -- in that pitchers feel more comfortable pitching to specific 'weak spots' of batters knowing that they have an edge defensively.

  23. This post is boring. I'm bored. Way too many words. Ugh.
  24. And while we're at it, let's make sure the catcher can't position himself in different locations behind the plate. Wouldn't want the pitcher to be gaining a competitive advantage.
  25. I hope Yo does one of those full-page 'farewell ads' in the JS. He's been a very good pitcher for us, & as a homegrown product I will always have a soft spot for him.
