  1. So are you going to just post on every mistake he makes that you disapprove of? It's really not proof of anything aside from that it annoys you.
  2. And of course you omit the very nice play Weeks made on the ball that took the bad hop at him earlier in the game. Randolph is on the staff because he's a good tutor on infield defense, & has helped Weeks improve a lot, and I'd guess also for his knowledge of the NL given his time with the Mets.
  3. Cards keeping it classy as usual, whining about the baseballs in Cincy
  4. Charter should be; they offer Extra Innings for purchase, per their website. Check the high-numbered subscription channels if you haven't already. Otherwise, give them a call. There should be a block of channels that listed as "Game 1", "Game 2", etc. The info bar on the on-screen menu should read "MLB Baseball" if there's a game on, otherwise it's "MLB Extra Innings/NHL Center Ice", iirc. Of course, it could all be moot if the game is blacked out.
  5. I see Josh Prince is listed as being with BC in the player index, but he's not listed in this thread. Is he hurt/on the DL?
  6. I understand that, but that doesn't mean it makes sense. The Red Sox could absolutely spend dollar-for-dollar with the Yankees if they wanted to, and I'd venture to guess the Cubs & maybe another two or three teams could as well. The one thing I can say for the Yankees is that they at least put the most amount of their insane profits to work on the field each season. I know their fans really like that (of course any fan would). Would folks rather the Yankees just spend less money & make more profit for the sake of parity?
  7. He's handled himself well, and takes the ball and does his best. I don't think that's worth booing. You can make the exact same case for Corey Hart. It's just fans being vindictive & having ridiculously short memories in his case. I mean, people were incensed that Hart went to arby, because 'how dare he!', and he was stupid for going to arby... he'd never win. And then he won. And then people got even more mad. All over $750K that means next to nothing to the Brewers. Hart has been open & honest about the arby process, and every report I've read is that he's a great guy & his teammates love him. I don't believe anyone who says he/she wouldn't have gone after the extra $750K in his position. It's the way the system works, and Hart got good advice from his representation. If I haven't stated this publicly, I just want to be clear -- I really am not a Hart fanboy. I like him as a Brewer, but I know that unless he returns to his earlier form he's not that rare of a talent. I just can't stand how fickle & vindictive many fans are being about this guy. He doesn't owe you anything, played by the rules, and was awarded this salary. If you want to be mad, be mad that MLB uses archaic methods to award player contracts in arbitration. Or you can just think of the $4.8M as back-pay for his awesome 2007 when he played for the league minimum. Not because I think it's perfectly accurate (or that I expect everyone to agree with it), but because it provides a frame of reference for how good his '07 was, FanGraphs has its estimated dollar value at $18.5M.
  8. The part I hate about this debate is that it's always "The Yankees". There are plenty of teams with financial advantages due to huge markets & profitable TV networks. Singling out one doesn't make any sense to me.
  9. The Yankees & many of their fans in particular seem very thin-skinned about the revenue comments. I agree that it's immature stuff. However, for some organizations (Marlins for one), the beef about revenue sharing money is legit. It's not relevant with regards to the Brewers under Mark A., however.
  10. Gomez The good Fast Can hit on occasion/Has hit for cycle Great defense/Black hole in CF Is going to steal first base Homeboy The bad Doesn't hit when you need him to Will freakin' swing at anything Total spaz Will cause hair loss in fans Homeboy
  11. Just in case anyone was curious, it was Howard who set the 'screen', & I believe it was Singler that got crushed. Yes, that was very satisfying http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. Maybe this isn't necessary, but I figured it might be a fun way to share the 'did you see that?!' moments throughout the season. Here's my first entry: Mark Buehrle... off the foot, through the legs, nothing but palm
  13. Butler slit its own throat with the field goal drought in the second half. I'm just amazed they were able to stay in it until the end.
  14. Is it possible that the Brewers think Kentrail Davis could see Huntsville this season? Would that have any bearing on his placement?
  15. Well, here we go...
  16. Yeah, Gomez was terrific today. The first single (btw. 3B & SS) wasn't really, but aside from that he was fun to watch. How about that no-doubt, bat-flip HR? That made me chuckle.
  17. Edmonds at #2 makes a lot more sense, as does McGehee--Zaun--Gomez/Escobar at 5--6--7, at least against RHPing. But of course managers get caught up in things like "he can move the runner over" & "he can lay down the bunt" -- seriously? You want your #2 hitting bunting?
  18. What the double-play number says to me is that he allowed a healthy amount of baserunners & has had a solid infield behind him. Double plays induced is hardly a core stat. When discussing "core numbers", Carruth addresses them pretty directly -- Feldman's ability to throw strikes & strike guys out, HR/FB rate, & BABIP. Feldman's K/9 & BB/9 are very comparable to Suppan's at a similar age. He doesn't strike many guys out, his BB rate is only slightly above-average, & he plays in a HR park (& had some luck with HR/FB last season). I don't think the money the Rangers are offering Feldman is all that out of line with what might be expected. What I dislike about the deal is that, imo, there's just no point in guaranteeing a pitcher money through his arbitration years when you can go year-to-year with him. Especially since the Rangers really didn't get a discount out of the deal. If Feldman continues to improve, then the Rangers look good. I just don't know how likely it is to expect him to do so.
  19. A couple older ones I missed (hooray for The Disabled List Informer returning!)... And some follow-up on Berkman... Huston Street experiencing shoulder pain...
  20. M's Cliff Lee to 15-day DL with abdominal strain -- Link
  21. FanGraphs post Year-by-year, per Cot's... 10: $2.425M11: $4.4M12: $6.5M13: $9.25M club option ($0.6M buyout) I have to agree with Carruth that this seems like an unnecessary risk by the Rangers.
  22. Cust is not even close to being a competent outfielder. He should be a DH only, which is probably part of why Oakland cut him loose. DFAing Gerut, who can competently handle CF & hit righties pretty well, would be a horrible mistake.
  23. I'd actually love to see him pitching in a role that wouldn't exclusively use him in the 9th inning, but I know that will never happen with managers today.
  24. Jeff Suppan was a bad investment, we threw #2 pitcher money at a middle to bottom of the rotation starter. Throwing money at him won't change who he is as a player, nor should it be expected to do so. At the time they signed Suppan, no he was not payed like a #2 starter. Times have gotten much tougher in terms of the economy. Guys like Carlos Silva got paid back then too.
