  1. Does it make you feel better to constantly dump on Weeks? It'd seem that him being healthy & playing well would do something for you.
  2. And for what it's worth, this event deserves an 'official' thread. Take your silly squigglies & vowels and start one then! I'm glad this thread has exposed the flamboyant & closeted football fans. One bonus of ESPN for me is that they replay matches late-night (or west-coast night). I have no allegiance aside from the US -- I try to pull for Ireland & sometimes Germany. I just like watching the best players in the world play. It's like the Olympics of football to me, and it's great.
  3. Other teams with pitching injuries... I told myself that these things can even out, but I was starting to get nervous. I'm not glad Wainwright got hurt, but I'm glad the Brewers aren't the only team to have injury woahs thrown at them.
  4. Since I love athletic OF, my choice came down to Pelfrey or Maybin. Just can't not take an arm like Pelfrey.
  5. Even though Snyder is probably a good pick, I don't think he fits the game we're playing. I'll take Pelfrey. I think he'd be just kept in Triple-A to be a super-two, then an MLB guy for the rest of the season.
  6. Y'all be safe up there. How long did your Texas transformation take, craigharmann... 7 months? "Ya'll"? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif bbhall, your posts made my eyes water! Funny stuff. I hope everything is getting sorted out at this point... hope no one suffered anything worse than some material damage. My thoughts are with you.
  7. Yes, that's the way it went down. I'm still angry about that crap. The only time I can think of a Brewer doing that was Prince in Houston when he said he just felt (for some reason) like he had to "tackle the bag" -- Loretta's leg was bent akwardly as a result, and Prince was very apologetic for that both on & off the field. Oh, and yeah, he started to slide before getting to 2B. If the Brewers engaged in more dirty crap like the slide into Weeks, then I most certainly wouldn't feel as angry about it. I have to say that I do enjoy/appreciate/respect that the Crew aren't into that dirty stuff.
  8. Congrats Junior! http://www.homeruncards.com/imagesrc/griffeyud.jpg http://library.thinkquest.org/J002612/Player%20Photos/Griffey
  9. I didn't like that play at all, either, BF. That was a dirty play that resulted in a player getting injured. I am not a fan of thuggery in MLB, but I was hot after that slide.
  10. http://friendsofdoom.com/gz/img/post/news/2007-05-25-deathsentance_lg.jpg "He doesn't like you... I don't like you either!" Are you thinking of mlbtraderumors.com? It's not a stats blog, but I thought someone said the kid is 16 or something like that. Homer is right... it's not Tim Dierkes at mlbtraderumors. Iirc, it's Eli's MLB Rumors blog (mlb-rumors.blogspot.com)
  11. FtJ beat me to it -- Could we be looking at Counsell leading off? The 2B always, under every circumstance, leads off!
  12. The triumphant return of TTTPC-Rod! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  13. Well the sad part is that, as bad as Hall has been he's still a better choice than Counsell. As far as Dillon at 2B, ... *barf* and I love Joe Dillon.
  14. Perhaps sbryl thought the thread had meant that Oak released him too?
  15. I don't want to just poop on your passionate post, Buc, but I do take issue with this: He never throws a player under the bus publicly. That's completely untrue. Considering how long we suffered without a winning season It should be noted that he has been .500 or better two of the last three years (the only years it could reaosnably be expected of him considering where he started from). So are we to divine that before the talent arrived Ned was a horrible horrible manager, and now that it's here, he's above-average or average? I think he was (at best) average prior to & average now overall. To try & credit Yost for the system's young rejuvenation arriving seems fruitless to me. W-L record for a manager is very inaccurate when trying to gauge manager 'talent.' So far this year [Girardi's] Yankee team hasn't really done anything special yet I'm sure plenty of people would still prefer him to Yost. I am not one of these people. Girardi is very average imho. Yet anyone who might like Yost and sees where the team is this year with the talent he has need to have a ready list of things that make us feel Ned has done an above average job. I don't think this is the case -- I think you provide a nice long list (even if I take issue with some of its details), but there are not all that many Yost backers who offer a whole lot more than, 'Who else would do better?' To be fair, there aren't a ton of Yost h8az that bring much more than, 'Who would do worse?'
  16. I agree...my biggest problem with Yost is that he constantly has Hart bunting with guys on first and second. I don't care if he's good at it -- he's one of your three best hitters in the lineup and has been one of the best hitters in the lineup with RISP. But... Corey's the #5 hitter -- the #5 hitter plays RF & has to bunt in those situations! Ned's read The Book! I fail to understand why people are bashing Ned.
  17. I'll get to my pick this afternoon (pacific time), but am going to be busy at work for a bit... just a heads-up
  18. Why does this site have all these rules?! It's posters like him that we're missing! I love when people just pile on a player because he's hurt... clearly that player's desire to be healthy isn't strong enough! It's not like Weeks's knee was akwardly hyper-extended or anything -- using Favre's durability is a fair comparison... I mean, that Ripken guy wasn't such a baby, come on!
  19. Of course, let's not forget these two classics! "Gibbons was again involved in controversy in July 2006, after his feud with Shea Hillenbrand came to a head. After the former Blue Jays infielder and designated hitter wrote negative comments about the team on a display board in the Blue Jays clubhouse, Gibbons confronted him in a closed team meeting and allegedly challenged him to a fight. Hillenbrand, who has a history of clashing with officials from several teams, was upset about his lack of playing time and that no one in the Blue Jays front office had made an attempt to congratulate him on recently adopting a child. Three days later the Blue Jays traded Hillenbrand, who was hitting .301 at the time, to the Giants.[4] Gibbons was involved in more controversy on August 21, 2006, when he got into a confrontation with another of his players -- Blue Jays pitcher Ted Lilly -- after Gibbons walked to the mound to remove Lilly in the third inning of Toronto's game against Oakland. Visibly frustrated at his own performance (having given up 7 runs in that inning to erase an 8-0 lead), Lilly initially refused to surrender the ball to Gibbons. He ultimately left the mound and headed for the clubhouse. [5]When Gibbons returned to the dugout, he followed Lilly into the clubhouse tunnel where, according to eyewitnesses, Gibbons confronted the pitcher about his insubordination. The two exchanged shoves, and a number of players and Blue Jays staff rushed in from the dugout to break it up.[6] Following the confrontation, both men considered the matter resolved, and there were no apparent tensions thereafter." Even classier! Yeah!! U WAANNA FITE MEE!>? (also from Wikipedia)
  20. But John Gibbons is a cowboy! He don't take no crap offa nobody!
  21. Also a very casual fan; caught some of France-Columbia (iirc) this weekend. Very fast-paced at points, & enjoyable. I'll have to do a better job tracking which games are when, so I don't just end up watching by channel-surfing.
  22. I think we have to assume that 4 years, $60 mil is the minimum realistic offer Melvin would have a chance of Sheets accepting. It will probably take more, though. Sheets knows that this may be his last big payday. Probably similar to the 'cap' on what we were able to offer El Caballo. Yes, a handsome offer... but if Benny can get even just one more season on the open market, why should he sign our offer? Imho he'd get 4 years at worst as a FA.
  23. Makes me wonder what Ted Simmons does. Do you think he A) Tries to convince Ned to do what makes sense. B) Mentions things, but doesn't really push it or C) Miss these moves as easily as Ned does? I'm genuinly curious. One thing I've been wondering about a lot lately is if I'm imagining or projecting too much importance on the following, or if others have noticed similar things/occurances. I typically try to pay attention to guys when they show shots of the dugout, and readily admit that the 'small sample' concept has never been more accurately applicable. However, the interactions that I've seen the cameras catch between Simba & Ned for quite some time now (talking at least the last three weeks) have been quite icy from Simmons's end. Many more than one occasion have I seen Ned approach Ted for conversation, to see Ted seemingly brush him off, leaving Ned sort of muttering to himself. It's made me wonder if Simmons is indeed a friend of Yost's, or if this aspect has been overstated. Like I said, I'm very aware that this is an ultimate "seems like" moment, but I'd appreciate others' input.
  24. Brewers-Twins on the other hand is much more about the actual play ont the field, and not whose fans are more annoying. The Twins don't even play in the same league, let alone the same division. Yes, their fans are less annoying, but a rivalry (imo) comes down to what tangible impact the games have. Not to say that Cubs-Brewers isn't a rivalry, but to be honest, the Cubs haven't won anything in forever. They are a big market team with a huge payroll that has stunk forever. Except that division title in 2007, & that they've been the best team in the NL so far this season. Plus, they won the WC in 1998, & division titles in 1989, '84, & 2003. It seems to me that Brewers fans are starting to develop some 'small man' symptoms. I can admit it -- the Cubs are good, and have been a much better team than the Brewers in the last 10-15 seasons (over .500 7 times from 1993-on... not counting this season). Just my opinion but i think the atmopshere is WAY better for Brewers-Twins than Brewers-Cubs, and i don't think its debatable that Twins fans are far more educated/classy basbeball fans than the northsiders I couldn't agree more. The Twins rivalry is a nice one, and would be much bigger & more enjoyable had the Crew remained in the AL.
  25. Mota has been very good for the Brewers all year. Ahh, selective memory -- very creative! I have a question for those of you who contantly bash Yost; who is the manager you want to hire after you fire Yost? This is the old Yost-defense question (not being combative, just observing). I can say with certainty (in my personal post-Extra Innings era) that the Brewers can improve at manager. There are plenty of candidates out there that have yet to get a managerial job in addition to those currently at the helm. Of course I don't know the unknown guys, because I'm not a MLB insider. But I know just in watching games that some managers don't let themselves get locked into defining player 'roles', & there are guys that don't hit-&-run their teams into outs (I personally think Ned is one of the best in terms of not using the h-&-r). Give me a manager that understands that running your players a lot is not worth the risk in outs on the basepaths, that understands sacrificing outs to advance runners one base is a dated concept, and doesn't lock his players into unflexible roles, and I'll be happy. I understand that there's probably not the 'perfect' manager out there, but to think that the Brewers can't improve themselves there is not accurate. I know one guy that currently isn't employed (& heck, who knows if he wants a job) that gets mentioned a bit around here is Davey Johnson (Earl Weaver disciple). I'd be cool with that move, but I'm sure that -- given how the understanding of baseball has evolved -- there are numerous 'unknown' candidates, as well, that'd bring some fresh perspective.
