  1. There is absolutely no reason that he should have gone public with a trade request prior to talking to management about it. To be fair, we don't know for sure that he didn't do this. It's very likely at some point Branyan is going to go 2 for 25 with 15 K's and Hall will be back in there against most righthanders and this whole issue will be gone. So that Hall can go 2 for 25 with 15 strikeouts?
  2. That's sad news. Smoltz was always my favorite of those dynamic Atlanta staffs. Here's hoping he can make it back in '09.
  3. What is it about EQA that makes it (iirc) more accurate than OPS?
  4. Congratulations, Washington, the biggest player value just fell all the way to #4. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. What makes you say that?
  6. Yeah, so why don't you yell profanities at the frustrated guy who has worked hard as he's been shuffled to a new position each of the last few seasons by the team with no true complaints... Forget that fact that he named no names, didn't disrespect or call out out the city or the fans or his teammates, and that he's done a lot for Milwaukee charities. Well, I think it would be responsible to note that, prior to publicly requesting a trade, Brewers fans weren't booing Bill like this. I think all of what you mentioned is not overlooked by Brewers fans. But to act like Bill Hall's prior actions have anything to do with the current frustration/ire that fans feel towards him is kinda misguided. Sure, you have the idiots that will boo the pickoff move booing him from time to time (the same people booing Fielder or Weeks or Hardy, etc. after a strikeout), but that's not what happened tonight. Let's not forget Bill Hall's choice in this situation. I simply don't think that 'well, he played numerous positions' is a feasible excuse (I know you're citing more, SF... not aimed at you per se). I'd bet that the vast majority of MLB position players have to do what Bill did (play different positions) simply to have a job in MLB, let alone pull down millions of dollars for it. The problem is not that the good Bill brings & has brought are now cancelled out and forgotten. The problem is that Hall is leaning on the 'Well, I've been so professional' tip, yet he goes out & does something as unprofessional as having his agent say, 'Bill wants out.' Even Turnbow could at least admit on his own that perhaps he'd be happier in another city, and T-Bow was getting it from all angles from the fans (& I'd imagine his bosses, too). The optimist in me sees Hall frustrated & wanting to compete & be the best he can in order to help the Brewers as best he can. The cynic in me sees a guy who fears his earning potential is crashing down, and puts himself before the team. If the argument is, 'Well, he 'earned' it by switching positions without complaining about being paid handsomely', then I just agree to disagree. I'm not sure if I lean much towards either the optimistic or cynical approach, but the best I can take from this is that it was poor judgment on the part of Hall & his advisor(s). The idea that he didn't disrespect the fans (the people who fund his lifestyle) holds zero water to me.
  7. http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/sw1mush/images/thumb/e/e9/LukeVaderEndor.jpg/250px-LukeVaderEndor.jpg That name no longer has any meaning for me
  8. What. A. Win. This is one of those games where I just wish I could've been there in person. What a display!
  9. Gameday placed Hall's over the fence, too, and Fielder's was around the warning track. Either they started teeing off on the Unit that inning or Gameday is off. They teed off on him. Hall's was only not a HR bc hit was hit to the left 'crotch' of the CF wall (that tringular area), Prince's was skied (though not as close), and Hart's was caught by the LF with his back against the wall -- literally.
  10. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Nice Caddyshack-age. Gameday LIES!
  11. I think it's time for Seth to just be done. I really hope he's not asked to work any more.
  12. Holy mammoth freaking home run, Ryan!!!!! http://img.mp3sugar.com/artist/artist_267.jpg
  13. Oh, TeriesGinale, right? I met that guy once...
  14. Why don't you go marry these 'stats', huh?! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. Things are definitely better. Seems 100% fine now.
  16. Forgot about Cincy, thanks. I was just using some examples, not delivering a final analysis of him overall.
  17. So the Yankees will try to ride Joba's success, only now as a starter... http://img.alibaba.com/photo/11540438/Joba_Horse_Riding_Fitness_Equipment.jpg This game will be priority 1-b for me to watch tonight. Good thing there won't be any pressure on him.

  20. Thanks for that, BTTM (& rluz). Hard not to like Crazy Joe... or ZiPS. Does .285/.350/.475/.825 sound about reasonable if he were the LHP side of a platoon?
  21. In last night's game (maybe it was Sunday's game), BA was talking about someone he spoke to with the team saying that Gagne is basically physically ready to return now. Whether or not that 'report' is accurate or to be trusted is another can of worms.
  22. I think the fact that he's a groundball-type pitcher, and that the way MP most benefits hitters is the HR, must play a role. http://www.fangraphs.com/graphs/633_P_season__ha_full_4_20080602.png Beyond that, I'd guess that random variance plays a role. But also never, ever rule out Suppwnage.
  23. Gagne's extended absence has to do with his wife's early trip to the hospital for their pregnancy. He's expected back with the team as soon as the family concerns are settled, and iirc Gagne & team officials have been on record saying that physically, he never needed the full 15-day DL stint -- the team did it with both his best (family) interests in mind & with roster flexibility in mind.
  24. Imh Lou Piniella is a vastly overrated manager. What did he do with the Rays? And if the answer is 'he didn't have much talent', then wouldn't his managerial success seem to be much more related to the players he's had? I don't like Piniella largely because he puts runners in motion under the belief that it 'gets things going'. I think he does most of what Brewers fans hate about Yost, to be honest. Lou 'rides the hot hand' in terms of his RP, which leads to things like the relatively crazy workload he's thrust on his 'pen already. If I had more time, I could elaborate more, but I just think Piniella is the perfect example of why managers in general get credit they don't deserve. He was a 'good'/'great' manager in Seattle, then a 'bad'/'subpar'/'average' manager in Tampa, and now he's back to being 'good'/'great'. Fans tend to evaluate a manager on his W-L record, which is like evaluating a single player on his team's W-L record.
  25. oh, yes you can! The Real Pirates have been doing it for many years! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Classic! You, sir, have made what I believe is called a 'funny joke'
