  1. MMP reminds me quite a bit of Shibe Park/Connie Mack Stadium (Philly), in terms of dimensions: http://www.ballparksofbaseball.com/past/ADL14Clarge.jpg (note the hill in the triangular CF) http://www.andrewclem.com/Baseball/Diag/ShibePark.gif --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/clubhouses/stadiums/hou.gif (MM Park here) I know they're not carbon-copies, but the general dimensions remind me of Shibe.
  2. "They aren't in desperate need of an infielder"? Say what? If Hardy and Weeks are both on the DL at the same time?? Well if the Brewers really are investigating trades for the MIF, would you want the GM to say, 'Yeah, we've really got a huge hole to fill'?
  3. Kapler and Dillon have both been out of baseball, and neither could land a starting gig. Joe Dillon had a severe back injury that led him to retire. This 'Dillon was out of baseball' line gets thrown around too much imo. He actually had a nice minor-league career before & after the injury.
  4. From what I understand, a lot of the weird things are in place because of space constraints outside of the ballpark. Basically, I guess they tried to do what old fashioned stadiums did--squeeze it into a couple of existing city blocks without disturbing the surrounding buildings. Don't know if that's true or not, but that's what I've heard. Ok, if this is true, I'd change my tune a bit. The Crawford boxes are still incredibly dumb, though.
  5. He has been a run producer his entire career. The fact that you just said this about Craig Counsell... and seriously... makes me feel dizzy. You seem to like Counsell, & have managed in the past to provide nice-looking data samples. I wonder if you'd be a bit more fair. Why not post his career with RISP? .272/.382/.356/.738 (1,031 PA) Or his career with men on? .268/.362/.343/.705 (1,698 PA) It just looks like a heavy case of cherry-picking. Not saying it's intentional, just saying... EDIT: jazzytrav has pointed out to me that I got this wrong; owbc was talking about Hart, not Counsell. I don't feel dizzy anymore, but for some reason I taste shoe... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif Sorry, owbc!! I remembered a conversation in the past about Counsell with the bases juiced, and lept to a conclusion. Egg is on my face.
  6. So the difference between Mike Cameron Bust and Mike Cameron $7 Million Player is 4 singles and two walks. Thank you. It's getting a bit silly to still hear complaints on Cameron -- his baseline salary this season is $5M. That would be only $750k more than Jason Kendall's. Some fans are not keeping in mind what market value is anymore. Btw, Cam is a mini-3T0, so the strikeouts aren't him getting away from his game. They're just more frustrating to some fans than groundouts. Cam had a nice 3T0 game last night, and I'd expect many more before the season's over.
  7. I don't consider the stadium a "bandbox" (that designation is for GAB in Cinncy), but I do see why some people don't like the Crawford box cheap HR. Fenway has it because of space constraints, Houston did it on purpose. Yeah, that's my main gripe. The old stadiums that had unique dimensions did so out of necessity (Fenway, Wrigley, etc.). Houston did this on purpose, which just cheapens it to me. What I dislike is that imo the park cheapens the HR. Those Crawford box shots should not be HRs. Likewise, when you mash one 400'+ into LC or RC, it should be a HR. I don't mind that they tried for creativity, but I mind that it's all so contrived. I hated the hill until I learned earlier this season that older ballparks had inclines instead of warning tracks (like JB noted). Same goes for the 'path' from HP to the mound that some parks have (Comerica, Chase Field (it did as Bank One Ballpark) -- it's an historical nod, so I can dig it.
  8. Wait... I just realized that our 8th inning guy is in for the 9th inning! The space-time conituum surely is sheared!
  9. KENDALLLLL!!!!!!! Gets the Biggio-bomb
  10. You certainly hear announcers point out the Brewers rely on HRs for ~45% of their scoring when they have a low-scoring night. But not much when the Brewers score 4 runs on homers in one inning.
  11. That is forever my favorite Jason Kendall moment. He got everything there, and finally broke from his classy, gritty image to look at it. And as they will do, the gods of baseball put him in his place.
  12. Did Kendall just pose? And hit a 2B?
  13. Cameron! I love that for once MM Park helped the Crew
  14. No one will ever be able to take away from Manny Parra that he made Ty Wigginton fall down.
  15. It was cool hearing the Astros' crowd reaction on Counsell's play from the hole
  16. So what's the plan with Gamel? Isn't a .376 BA over 260+ Double-A ABs enough to warrant a promotion? Or is there a more subtle, salary-related plan with this? It seems both Mat & Matt (LaPorta) have nothing left to prove about their abilities to hit Double-A pitching.
  17. I'd hire my dog to negotiate before Stevie. Scott? Or Steve?
  18. Circumstantial evidence exists to suggest that this particular PED might have been in use long, long before anyone might have initially suspected: Well-played! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif The art form (make crude reference, earn no strike) in this thread is admirable. Many posts have given me the giggles.
  19. Besides, even if Cameron underperforms a bit on offense, his stellar D coupled with whatever he brings with the bat is easily > or = $5M on the FA market.
  20. I can see that point of view. But my thinking was that the Pottawatomie have a professional quality to them. The Wisconsin Lottery commercials have to be about as amateurish as it gets. I can say that other states don't do much (if at all) better. Methinks since state $$ has to pay for the commercial, 'bang-for-buck' is the #1 determinant for these commercials. Besides, the money is better-spent elsewhere. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I love this thread... I am very much an 'ad snob', and the crazy crap that ads spew drives me bonkers on a daily basis. I'm certain I'll be back to post many times once reminded by seeing them on TV. To start -- Budweiser: It's betta cuz itz cleeerer!
  21. McClung is making me look like a genius for saying how well he has pitched except for that one game early when he was asked to take one for the team, way back in early April. Other than his fatigue issues in the 5th of his first couple starts (see Joba for how hard it is to go 5 right away), he's been simply astounding. He's looked promising as a SP, but as mentioned, let's see how long it lasts (once other teams get scouting reports & Seth has to throw with control more than 20 or so IP). To say that 'you were right' & that he's had only one bad outing really doesn't take an objective look. McClung has exceeded expectations in 3 of his first 4 starts. The other start was terrible, and he was not good as a RP before the 4 starts. He walked 13 guys in 20 1/3 IP as a RP. Let's not apply the 'well, looks like McClung is great!' backslaps just yet. To call him "astounding" is overdone imo -- he's been better than expected in a tiny sample. I hope it continues. Maybe it's the fact that as a starter he's not throwing with max effort that enables him to command pitches better. I wondered about this, too. It's been nice to not have to listen to Seth grunt his way to 96-mph balls. He's looked a whole lot better when he's kept himself in check a bit.
