  1. He threw 68 pitches in his first start and towards the end looked bad and threw 85 pitches yesterday and towards the end looked bad. I find it pretty curious that he was just shifted from the bullpen to the rotation without any "stretching". Yes, strange indeed. Thanks for clarifying. He shouldn't be starting unless they're going to piggyback him after 60 - 70 pitches so in other words he'd be best served out of the bullpen or as a 5 inning guy followed by CV (if McClung maintained a low enough pitch count). Agreed fully. I'm still puzzled why the braintrust feels/felt he's a better option than Villy. I know Carlos has had rough outings in 2008, but it seems & seemed like a small-sample kind of move to make Seth a SP. My problem is that McClung was doing fine until the 5th inning. And I know some bf.netters will say look at his WHIP look at the hits, but the bottom line is after 4 innings McClung gave up only 1 run. I'll take the end results like that before I throw him under the bus or complain about something. I can't agree with 'bottom line he only gave up 1 run' part. That's fine in the one start, but McClung (imo) allows a worrisome amount of baserunners. The chances of him giving up only one run per 4 or 5 IP with the amount of baserunners he surrenders on a regular basis is fairly slim. I'd be just fine with him as the long man &/or lower-leverage RP, but as a starter he scares me.
  2. The Brewers can't score nine runs in a week How about the 6-run inning at Washington? I know you're going with some sarcasm there, but it seems every time the Cubs happen to win when the Brewers have just lost, the statements bandied about lean towards 'the Cubs are so much better, the Brewers might as well give up.' I know they're still the favorites, but the two teams' schedules have been so flukily complimentary that I can't say either way (personally) if the Brewers are too far back or not. I think once we get through June, there will be a much better view of what's going on.
  3. He's shown signs... And as such, I'd like to see McClung get a couple more starts. What is it that you've liked so far... or what is it that you feel is encouraging going forward? I personally want to be encouraged by his first start, but it came against WAS, so I have a hard time feeling as good about that as I want to.
  4. McClung either has to be stretched out or moved to the bullpen... In my opinion it's as simple as that and he clearly wasn't ready to throw that many pitches and his final inning is a big indicator of that. Do you feel his first start was an aberration that didn't have to do with being stretched out or not, and his last start had to do with that? I agree with you that anyone we want to turn into a SP should stretch out (Nashville or wherever), but I don't agree that McClung's struggle yesterday has anything to do with being stretched out or not... just that he always has (& likely always will) BB lots of batters. He threw a lot of pitches in his first start for a guy not stretched out, and he did the same in his second start. The way I take McClung not BBing a man per inning is as the less likely outcome to not BBing a man each inning he throws (from the 6-ish BB/IP stat). I think, stretched out or not, the results from his start yesterday are what should be expected more than the results from his first start (against the Nationals). 2 of those walks were intentional so I don't know if it's fair to lump them in with the other ones. At least one of them was directly tied to allowing Kelly Johnson to reach 1st & steal 2nd, so I think it'd be hard to try to differentiate either way. It probably isn't fair, since Yost obviously called for the IBBs, but IBBs typically result from allowing other baserunners.
  5. The NCAA and others deem it offensive, yet the respective tribes have no problem with it and in fact support and find pride in the names. Many of those 'others' are tribe members. It's not true that every tribe represented doesn't have a problem with it... the ones that receive compensation are the ones that don't feel slighted. The most recent (<--iirc) Seminole opposition came from a tribe in Oklahoma. The tribes in Fla. are compensated for FSU's use... the tribe in OK that was upset, no compensation. Before this all spins into a debate on ethics or racism, etc. Here are two threads from the O-T forum earlier this month. "Which teams are due for a new logo?" "Shed some light on offensive team names" Both have some interesting discussion on these points.
  6. Q:How many games does it take for team 2 to get a solid victory? A: Nobody knows. They are a bunch of little girls. Come on now, you've just offended little girls everywhere. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. A SB adds 12% to the win%, a CS subtracts 29%. If I'm doing to right, a CS is 2.4 times more costly than a SB is beneficial. You better be darn certain your SB attempt is going to succeed in that situation Yeah, it was a huge gamble by Hall. He's both 'good' & 'incredibly lucky' in that sense. I has to ax you a kwesshin, rluz -- Turn that into win%: Chance of winning before SB: 71% (50% + .5 x 42%) Chance of winning after SB: 83% (50% + .5 x 66%) Chance of winning after CS: 54% (50% + .5 x 8%) What are the 50% & .5 in those equations? I'm asking this knowing full well that the answer is probably mind-numbingly simple. I looked at the tangotiger link you provided, but couldn't figure out those two numbers. Thanks in advance.
  8. But the problem is that the 6 BBs weren't lumped into that one inning. It's not his fault Yost had him pitch with a crappy strategy; it is his fault that he has serious problems locating the strike zone on a consistent basis.
  9. I haven't ever had this problem, and the only browser we have at work is IE. I use FFox at home. Just trying to shed some more light on the subject.
  10. RUSSELL FREAKING BRANYAN. Normally, I wouldn't disturb someone I've never met at a restaurant, because I respect their privacy, but this was obviously an exception. I told him about the site and that a fair number of us were enormous fans and disciples of the "Three True Outcomes". He sorta looked confused, but shook my hand anyway. At least now he knows who we are so I wouldn't be surprised if he at least out of morbid curiosity checked us out. BEST LUNCH EVER. Wow! That's freakin' sweet. Wonder if he'd even heard of 3TO before that. Automator has introduced Branyan to his own religion. Praise be to 3TO!
  11. Having a problem with it today -- am I the only one? I have to refresh each page manually when I view it to get the new comments/posts. I click on the link to a given page, and it loads up as normal, but doesn't show any new posts or edits. For that, I have to do a manual refresh. It's not like I can't see everything, it's just tedious. I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I already logged out & in, and that hasn't done anything to solve the problem.
  12. Why does it seem you bring this up in almost every thread? McClung got rocked the other day, but plenty of other starting pitchers have too He brings it up because people were talking about how McClung hadn't walked many batters, when the reality was that he had. Seth's BB total from yesterday really shouldn't have surprised people too much (yes I know two were IBBs). He is the stereotypical power pitcher -- high Ks, high BBs. McClung's troubles primarily come from allowing too many baserunners via the free pass, and yesterday was no different. Weaver has just plain been getting rocked in general, so at this point I'd just rather have Villy back in the rotation.
  13. I've worked at a gourmet buffet/catering place that sounds incredibly similar to Fleming's (server, not chef). The veggie option will probably be something along the lines of a phyllo-dough puffed pastry with some form of veggie (maybe a casserole) inside. That's a fairly popular/common solution for the veggie option when it comes to 'high-class' catering. It'd still be served like an entree, so there'd be whatever side(s) that compliment the dish. The way our kitchen would handle it would be to compile all the pre-orders, and make a few more veggie entrees than were ordered/requested, because there's always that picky person or people that change their mind the day of the damn event, bc suddenly 'I just don't feel like meat'. In fact, there's always a handful of people that change to another meat option, bc they think they're more special than everyone else... but I've digressed into a whole different can of worms. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. logan's general argument is that the IBB is misused, & often the 'situation' doesn't actually dictate an IBB -- just that managers aren't aware of run expectancy, or whatever.
  15. I think he can get to 35 because I personally think it's very unlikely that he will turn in another month with just 2 HR like he's had in May. I'd expect him to be right around an average of 6 or 7 as a safe guesstimate. Even if you play the lower end of that, he'd have 30 by season's end. I also would be surprised if he didn't have at least one month up near 10 HR or so.
  16. He's lost his power. We can agree on that, at least so far this year. Well I can't. What about 1/3 of a season tells you anything about player skill? Are you saying he lost his power, or are you saying it's something that's temporary (& that he hasn't lost)? Think of it this way -- if he'd hit 10-15 HR through May, then had a slow month of June & into July in terms of HR, would you be making the same statement? I personally don't think Prince has lost any power. I think NL pitchers & staffs are incredibly careful in how they scout & pitch him, and Fielder is still trying to make his own adjustment(s). The good news (imo) is that in the meantime, Prince has been very selective & worked a very nice BB rate. He could still hit 35 HR relatively easily this season, given his power & strength. Braun is a good comparative example -- if he goes the month of June with 2 HR, would anyone think he's lost power, or just that he'd had a cool stretch in terms of HR? Is it a coincidence that he's [posted a HR total that upsets some fans] after giving up meat? 100%, absolutely, yes.
  17. I don't know what I would do... probably run away screaming like a little girl!! What if one of the snakes offered you some cognac & told you to lie down for a little bit -- just to get comfortable & try something new? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. What do you mean that it's safe to say he's lost his power? Is this a permanent outage?
  19. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Fair enough. Sheesh, I didn't even think of that... sooooo tired today. That event is important in any timezone, though.
  20. The polish would wear off Kapler after about a week of starting. http://blogs.phillynews.com/inquirer/zozone/polish%20sausage.jpg Bunt by bunt, I will defeat you... Kapler!
  21. Make note of this timestamp: 5/29/08 12:37 PM Even logan has had enough with Yost! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. 480' off Maddux (CHN) in Russell's first game back with the Crew in 2006 (iirc...?)
