  1. To piggyback off naivin... http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c234/finsfan13/Miggy-1.jpg http://www.sun-sentinel.com/media/photo/2007-06/30611913.jpg
  2. I stand by the terrible comments. Then I can see you did no further research. # of org.'s in a career is an awful way to evaluate a player. Career OPS over .800 with roughly 2,000 ABs, however, is a much better method.
  3. Except he said it yesterday. Stupid time machine...
  4. How would he rank of the big three from Atlanta? Honestly, he might be the best of the three. You have to consider that 4 seasons of Smoltz's career were spent in the closer role (& recovering from injury for 2000). Maddux was luckier & remained healthier... and is arguably the better pitcher. I just don't think it's cut-&-dried that the order is Mad.-Smoltz-Glavine.
  5. "I hit a grand slam today, so I'm going to just say whatever I feel like" -- Ronny Cedeno Isn't every team 'thinking about the WS' every year?
  6. The guy has a ton of talent, no doubt, but always wants to play the role of hero. Perception > Reality There's a reason Branyan is playing in the minor leagues at 32. He's terrible. Look into this. You will find that you're surprised. Terrible? Wow. Actually, I'd rather not change that channel and simply have rational discussions about the Milwaukee Brewers. Is that option B? Rluz, there are plenty of places for crap like this -- take it to the ESPN boards.
  7. I just find it odd that he keeps coming up around here, and all that he supposedly brings to the table, yet he continually doesn't produce This is why I think you don't understand how valuable Branyan's game is -- an .800 OPS over nearly 2,000 MLB ABs is a very good indicator of talent. That's it. We're all being totally irrational with Russel the Muscle. So are the 5 organizations that he's been with in the last 2+ years. And his career lines of .229/.327 with a K more than every 3 times up? Number of orgs has nothing to do with talent. Look at that bum Sheffield's career! Maybe those who "misunderstand it" are the ones who think .196/.327 and a good SLG makes for a good player? All I did was defend a solid player from an unwarranted smear... nowhere have I lauded the all-star qualities of Branyan. I'm not even that big a fan of Branyan, as I value OBP quite highly. However, to suggest that a guy that can carry a .330-ish OBP & near-.500 SLG (even when he strikes out as much as the Muscle does) isn't solid or doesn't 'deserve' some fan-love is preposterous. His BB rates don't slump, and if he can bat even just around .230-.240 for you, you've got incredible part-time production.
  8. I think people are upset because aside from the last couple months of '07 he really hasn't been very special. Aside from the last couple of months of '07 to now, Weeks has never been healthy at the MLB level. (Yes, I know Glennron is fully aware of this http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif )
  9. Hitting a fly ball to the track, while perhaps not hitting it squarely or perfectly, is certainly hitting the ball with authority.
  10. No, I understand 'em fine... Russell Branyan hits for a low BA. He draws BBs much better than any of the guys you mentioned. When he does hit the ball, he hits it very hard on balance. .327 career OBP with a .478 career SLG for an .805 OPS. I think you either neglect to recognize this, or misunderstand Branyan. There are many PH situations in which you not only want a hit, but you want an XBH. Branyan provides a very good chance for that, and if he doesn't get that, he provides a very good chance of a BB. Entering 2008, Branyan had 262 BBs in 1800+ career AB -- an incredibly good ratio, as is Gross's 90 in 612. You've been ragging on Gross, and now on Branyan. It really appears you neglect to consider BB rates. Yeah he draws walks and has "some" power, but we have enough power on the team. There is no such thing as "enough power" He is a butcher in the field, and probably cost the team a couple runs already with his bad defense. Patently false. He might have cost the team a run or two, but certainly saved just as many. To call him a "butcher" is just misrepresentation.
  11. In the era in which Smoltz played, to reach this milestone is nothing short of incredible. That is, unless you were lucky enough to get to see him pitch! Congrats to Smoltz.
  12. Iribarren showed he was a better lefthanded option of the bench if need be. Absolutely disagree. Gwynn and Kapler can hit on par and can field better. No way you can prove or convince me of this. We lost a lefty bat with very good pop, and a guy that can play all 3 OF spots serviceably. Sure, a year or two from now I might laugh at myself if Butler turns his stuff into success, but for now I think Melvin is gambling on the bench. Branyan's who has never proven he deserves the love he gets here, has been gone for a couple years now We get it -- you either loathe or misunderstand OBP & SLG.
  13. Nice point in #60 from wallus on how confident DM & Co. are in Iribarren. I'm not happy at all to see Gross go. You don't find LH bench hitters as good as Gabe very often. I hope Butler pans out in any capacity for us, because as Rluz mentioned, this in no way makes us better for 2008.
  14. Would that be the same Riske that, according to most on this board, would have been the ab-so-lute guaranteed saviour had Ned allowed him to pitch last night instead of TBow? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif No, that'd be the Riske that some recognized was the superior choice to TBow. I'm lost without my hindsight goggles!
  15. Boy, that Gabe Gross guy is sure a bum. What, wrong thread? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. I was never a person that wanted kids. In fact I would go so far to say that if I had never had kids I wouldn't have been bothered at all. I now have 2 and like them quite a bit. Sig-worthy. *puts in his back pocket*
  17. The Brewers could have the bases loaded with no outs and a 3-0 count to the batter and not score a run. As could any team at any level of baseball.
  18. What reason do you have to still believe this? Turnbow was actually able to command his slider tonight, for the first time in what felt like years. Yes, he grooved his fastballs early, but if he can sustain command of the slide-piece, the FB can go back to playing its nasty role of the inverted changeup. In fact, if he can locate the slider like he did tonight, it won't matter as much if he makes the mistakes he did tonight with FB location. I was very happy to see Turnbow's stuff tonight -- especially after he'd been hit, Derrick was in command of his breaking pitch. It sucks we lost, but there were chances to score more runs earlier, and the Crew farted out on them. Can't put that all on TBow or Yost. And, yes, I fully agree that Hart was the goat tonight. Words cannot describe how much I hate the 'contact play'. EDIT: If he puts in Riske and he gives up the run, you guys are asking why Turnbow isn't in there. Anything Yost does, you guys criticize. This comment needs to go away. Totally unconstructive. 'Anything Yost does... blah blah blah'
  19. Very nice to see TBow get himself back together there -- his slider, dare I say, looked like he was locating it.
  20. Ned sez... my hunches + gut feelings + hopes for what happens > whether or not the Brewers win. *barf*
  21. So a week and a half long road trip and no Turnbow, but as soon as you get back to Miller park, run him out there to get booed if anything goes wrong. Nothing like managing for success! No... kidding. *shakes head* Not only setting the player up for failure, but not using Riske? I'm speechless... yet again from Yost.
  22. Booyakasha! EXCELLENT baserunning by both guys there. Man, I really thought that was going to be close at the plate, and then Duncan unleashed the noodle! EDIT: I think Braun batting like crap aggravates me more. *Ahem* He worked a pretty decent AB there.
