  1. Prince! Nice scoop. He popped up from the stretch there like an excited kid.
  2. Fair point. However, Prince hadn't honed his approach fully until he got a bit into the season, so I'm willing to be more patient with Braun. But you're right. He chases more than Prince ever really did.
  3. Some positive traits of Ned Yost, in no particular order: Patience Not much 'small ball' baggage (limits SB attempts, h-&-r, bunting) Has been good with young arms (just mo) Able to gameplan well Just trying to think of some.
  4. Bush threw at Burrell's head for not letting Jenkins have #5
  5. Will Braun ever stop swinging at crap? Yes. We've said the same things about Prince when he was in his first MLB at-bats.
  6. Gross is athletic & tall enough to pull that one back. Not saying he would've, but Kapler didn't jump very well there (I know he was trying to backtrack towards the ball as he leapt). EDIT: I know we're playing a lefty, but just a general observation. "The Packers shirt buys him a few extra points, as well." -- BA
  7. keep playing like that Richie and you'll get traded too! -DM Sexson... traded years ago...
  8. http://manstar.files.wordpress.com/2007/09/mugatu.jpg Fielder -- so hot right now. Fielder.
  9. I hope I have enough time to get home from work & not miss Jenks's first AB. Not catching the reception he gets would piss me off. Woogie, your IGTs are incredible. Thank you!
  10. ^^ Agree 100% with Toby, which is why -- out of the two -- I would set Mota to close. This would allow Gagne to pitch the higher-leverage innings.
  11. Gabe Gross was a great person, a great clubhouse guy, and a decent all-around player. Very well-said. It's not so much that I'm enamored with Gross or don't think the Brewers got fair value back. I'm just puzzled that people are that confident in Gwynn and Kapler. Yeah, agreed. With some more time to think on it, I've accepted that Melvin seems to have added a nice arm for a bench player (for us). That's going to wind up being a 'win' of a trade more often than not. Why people "know" that Gwynn & Kapler will be fine is beyond me. Obviously I hope the duo does well, but it seems we just sent our best bench player away, thinning out the backups in a season in which we're gunning for it all. I go back to wallus's good point in post #60 that Iribarren will be back soon.
  12. I think I remember that too, brett. Gonna go dig for that thread... EDIT: Man! It's not on the first 5 pages, from what I could see. I'm 99% certain it's not that old. Does anyone know what that thread was titled? Iirc, there was a full transcript of the chat.
  13. I haven't seen the caliber of craptitude in terms of production on any of the other FSN networks, mikevan. Not trying to shout you down, just weighing in. Exactly. I don't get what more people expect out of the FSN-WI duo. They're not responsible for the production end of things. But... the weatherman makes the weather, so the TV announcers make the TV... right?!
  14. crewcrazy is correct. I apologize for not checking Cot's earlier. Dunn is on a $13 mil. club option for the 2008 season, then his contract is up. Also of note: "if club exercised 2008 option, Dunn receives full no-trade clause until 6/15/2008 & limited no-trade clause for the remainder of 2008 (allowing Dunn specify 10 clubs to which he would accept a trade)"
  15. Well you're right that he doesn't have 'IT'/his stuff from his prime in LA. However, I disagree with you that he has an average FB -- can't just grade a FB on velocity imo (perhaps that's not what you were doing). He's still a good reliever, and we signed him to a really low-risk deal. At a certain point a series of small sample sizes becomes a trend. I think we are heading in that direction. Gagne certainly could be 'heading in that direction', but I don't think there's anything to indicate so just yet. You're talking just 8 2/3 IP, with 6 'stellar/good' appearances and 4 'poor/bad' appearances. I know it can be hard to be patient once the season starts, but people are just making too much of Gagne imo. When he throws a brilliant inning, it's 'He's supposed to do that', and when he gets touched, it's, 'He's supposed to never do that!'. As a throw-in, the HR he gave up to Bako in CIN (game-tying) would have been a lazy flyball out in the majority of MLB parks.
  16. I think it should be noted that his 2007 is kind of a fluky outlier, though. Riske's strand rate iirc last season was 90% -- and not even guys like him (that do appear to have some talent in terms of 'stranding') can keep that up. That said, Briggs is right on in terms of Riske's career month-by-month success. For whatever reason, he hasn't pitched all that well in Aprils. Then again, the largest sample of any month is only 92 innings (August), so it might just be coincidental.
  17. I thought, looking at his numbers, that the Red Sox thing was just a blip--small sample size, etc. Why account for small sample then but not now?
  18. I think I would rather deal with FSN than listen to ESPN's announcers act like they care about the Brewers. Or that they know anything about them! Totally agree with trav here. Puts my distaste for the 4-letter network in perspective... never thought I disliked it that much. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. Votto & Encarnacion don't have to be stars to be guys to build around. Thanks for correcting me on Dunn -- probably a good signing, since Adam is still relatively young. Once he hits ~ 30, the Reds can unload him on a big-market squad at the deadline & reap some prospects.
  20. And by consistently, you mean pretty much just one time, right? No, I mean consitently. And I have no desire to get into another screaming match with you.
  21. Good points, Briggs. The one imo most pertinent to this thread is Billy Hall's love affair with XBH. Even in a total injury-induced down year last season, Hall posted 35 2Bs to go along with his 14 HR. This season, there's a strong chance we'll see 40+ 2Bs & 20+ HR. That's great production.
  22. That's good to hear. This is the only pic I could find from the current season on a cursory image search: http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Baseball/MLB/2008/04/15/m041564A.jpg
  23. I have to say as a Brewer fan...I don't like this one bit. I couldn't agree more. Surprised the Reds did this; most certainly had to have been related to his working environment/interactions. I wonder if Krivsky's pink slip had anything to do with his hiring of Baker. Just a thought. I wonder if this means Baker will be "one and done". If they don't have a good year, you'd think Jocketty would want to bring in his own guy. You'd hope Jocketty would just want to get rid of Baker, period (if you're a Reds fan). On principle, I hope he cans Baker, but as a Brewers fan, I hope the marriage lasts. Plus unless the Reds have the next Albert Pujols in their system, he will be hard pressed to keep the Reds competitive as Dunn, Griffey, and Co. leave town I don't agree with you here. Dunn & Griffey (if they both leave) should net comp picks at worst, and the Reds have drafted pretty well in recent years. I don't see how adding a solid GM like Jocketty would set back their drafting success. With Bailey, Cueto, Votto, Encarnacion, & Bruce, Cincy has a great young core around whom to build. If Jocketty can make some smart FA signings & trades along the way to augment their homegrown talent base, the Reds will be very dangerous.
