  1. Yea, I guess the comment with which I immediately followed 'team not contending' could've cancelled it out... oh well.
  2. AT -- perhaps this thread deserves its own forum as well? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I'll apologize for myself and any lack of moderating from my short stint thus far. As I've only been a moderator for a little under 2 weeks, I'm still learning the ropes. So... hang him, or burn him?
  3. Edit-To keep this to one post, since I know how much TwoLiveBrew hates multiple postshttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Hooray! It's so much more efficient... And, iirc, the rumor this offseason was that the Cards asked for Hart in the Rolen discussions; not sure if I heard or didn't hear that the ChiSux asked for Corey.
  4. What'll be said about Bill Hall when he hits .320 this year? Gopher totally called that one! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. Please to post the video of Brett Favre interview Letterman!!1!
  6. mothershipconnection, ftw. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Thanks for the belly-laugh... I did not see that coming (sadly)
  7. Sheesh, Big Reed! First you cite OBP in support of one of your arguments, now a positive, well-rounded & informed post on Hall & 3B options... what's next, examining how ERA can be overwhelmingly affected by poor infield defense!? ( http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif We luvs ya, Reed)
  8. I went to grade school with Vuke's son! The only tangible memory I have of Vukovich is his gator boots he wore on a field trip as a chaperone to the Milw. museum -- when he answered my question of "What are your boots made from?", I was just in awe that this man had singlehandedly killed & skinned an alligator, and then handliy crafted its skin into awesome boots. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. Thanks for sharing that, battlekow -- a nice read. You really couldn't dream up a better scenario for Eveland to have the opportunity to prove himself: extreme pitcher's park, solid D behind him, team not contending, weak divisional competition. Here's hoping the best for Dana!
  10. Sort of OT, but watching the ARI @ LAD game right now. The Dodgers' broadcast has to be the best in baseball. It goes beyond Vin Scully, even though it certainly wouldn't need to. Scully is what every baseball fan ever dreamed an announcer could be... and oh yeah, he works solo -- and you don't find yourself wishing for him to have a partner in the booth. His knowledge is stellar, and he doesn't belch out idiotic baseball 'truths' like the vast majority of MLB announcers. Cheers to the Dodgers' FSN broadcast! I'll certainly be tuning in anytime I can to catch a broadcast by this crew -- fantastic all around. The #1 reason why it's so good is awesome -- its simplicity. No element of the broadcast tries to do any more than is necessary. No crappy gimmicks, camera angles, catch-phrases, or promotions. Just baseball. This is a thing of beauty. Now I'm really looking forward to the Brewers visiting Dodger Stadium. Also, Vin Scully is pwesome.
  11. I heard that Beane once said that blog was too fat to be any good...
  12. That's not a good analogy. Rickie is going to score a lot more runs than Ichiro is going to prevent HRs. My analogy has nothing to do with the frequency of either occurance. I stand by it.
  13. Crap -- I used their website 'form email' thingy -- you know, where you fill in your name, email, etc., and then type in the box they provide. It wasn't R-rated language. I just told them it was absolutely embarassing & ignorant that they just posted a pic of another black guy, & called it good (yes, I know it most likely wasn't intentional). Also expressed my frustration that they've had all day (at least) to fix it, and that it's gross that a web reader has to be the one to tell them which player is which. That's not really the way I said it, but for short-hand, it'll do.
  14. Saying that runs are a bad way to judge Weeks, when it his job to get on base so that he can score runs, just seems weird. You just said it there, though -- his job is to get on base, so judge him largely based on OBP, not runs. Whether or not he comes around to score is almost completely out of Rickie's control, so to give him credit for that is like giving a pitcher credit for 'hanging tough' on & retiring a batter because Ichiro pulled back what would have been a HR. If I remember from another thread correctly, he didn't start the batt waggle until he got to the big leagues. Does anybody know why or who started it? It's a timing mechanism the Brewers had Weeks add to his approach after they drafted him. I don't know when he started it, but I'm sure someone here will.
  15. Ok, so the Brewers had all day to fix the picture of Rickie Weeks to one that's actually of Mike Cameron. Just sent in a non-friendly email telling them to get their act together. Perhaps I'm overreacting, but it seems pretty absurd that the official website can't even get a player picture correct.
  16. That blog has had some good info on contracts & trades this past offseason. It's just a guy speculating that doesn't have good access to inside Brewers info like we do here, imo. I can't fault him too much for trying to go a bit more in-depth. It's just... do your research. I honestly wasn't bugged by the thought of moving Braun back to 3B... it was "keeping LaPorta in his natural position seems likely" that irked me. That one isn't hard to research in a quick Google search.
  17. Check this out from the writeup iluvlamp linked: "You hate to fill out a depth chart with the idea that a top prospect will come up and shine, but it is likely that Ryan Braun will move back to third in a couple years to make room for Matt LaPorta. The Brewers are very high on Corey Hart and have options in center, so moving Braun back to third and keeping LaPorta in his natural position seems likely. Nevertheless, getting a deal done now should help in negotiations with Prince Fielder." Someone already chimed in & corrected the guy.
  18. My vent? Check out the picture on Brewers.com for the article on Cameron making rehab starts in Nashville. Here's the caption -- "Photo: Outfielder Mike Cameron has five games remaining on his 25-game suspension. (AP)" Yeah... Guys? That's Rickie Weeks. But it's ok, it's not like you're the team's official website or anything...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  19. For all the talk of being and Ofer or his ankle hurting him last year I dont by it. I guess it's your prerogative whether or not to ignore medical fact. To me, having the ankle of your plant leg hurt as much as Hall's did last year sure makes sense as to why his power numbers were down. The notion that Hall is going to hit .220 is pretty sensationalistic & inaccurate.
  20. If it counts when a pitch whisks your jersey, it'd have to count when a pitch whisks your... whiskers...[/arbitrary pun]
  21. To be fair, he doesn't need to be elite, just good enough for the Brewers to make the playoffs. Has any good closer been that bad for 42 innings and then was good again after? Don't fall into the trap of using ERA to gauge a pitcher, especially a reliever. Your quote says it all -- "42 innings". You can't really get much smaller-sample than that. With Gagne, just watch his stuff & command as he pitches. If his stuff & command matched up with his results (which they most certainly don't thus far in 2008), then I'd definitely share your concern(s). But Eric's looked good so far, and fortunately for him, he's not in a huge city that would have the power of 10,000 Haudricourts screaming that, 'Gagne just can't pitch on the big stage! Hee suckz!'
  22. I went up to say hello, welcome him to Milwaukee and congratulate him on the game winning hit from that afternoon. Nice guy. No one else in the bar had a clue who he was. Classic. That's awesome! Super-classy on your end.
  23. Soto is certainly not the best catching prospect in baseball. Haudricourt is not a very good evaluator, imo (just mo). Hardy is light-years better than Theriot.
  24. That's some seriously bad moomoojoomoo, j21. If he goes down, BF.net is coming for you!
