Could there be a strong market for Lohse?
TooLiveBrew replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
With the exception of Thornburg, I wouldn't make any of those trades if the Brewers were contending & looking to possibly add Lohse. -
Could there be a strong market for Lohse?
TooLiveBrew replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I agree with this in principle, but the K-Rod trade is a reminder as to why having a high selling price in the right market is never that bad an idea. -

Hypothetical: What prospects from the Brewers system would you be willing to part with for Lohse, given his production, age, & salary? -
Sounds Fall To 'Topes, 4-2 Nashville's Josh Prince Hits Ninth Home Run In Losing Effort Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/Q5OtY0s.jpg Robinzon Diaz was called for obstruction on this play in the 6th, which saw the Isotopes tie the score at 2-2 (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) AUDIO: Blake Lalli Scores On Wild Pitch AUDIO: Sounds Turn Double-Play AUDIO: Josh Prince Home Run NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds were edged 4-2 by the Albuquerque Isotopes, who plated three late runs late in Tuesday night's game at Greer Stadium. Tied 2-2 in the seventh, Albuquerque's Dee Gordon knocked an RBI single into left field to give the 'Topes a one-run advantage. The run came against Sounds reliever Zack Kroenke (4-13), who took the loss after 1 1/3 innings pitched. Albuquerque added to its lead in the following inning when Alex Castellanos hit a solo home run off the guitar scoreboard in left field. The jack was the right fielder's 16th of the season and only the fourth allowed by Kyle Heckathorn this season. The Sounds scored first in the game when catcher Blake Lalli scored from third on a strikeout wild pitch in the second inning. Lalli singled to reach base, moved to second on a walk issued to Cole Garner, and got to third on a passed ball. Albuquerque leveled the game in the top of the third with Elian Herrera's RBI-single down the right-field line, which scored Damaso Espino; but the Sounds regained the lead when Josh Prince hit his ninth home run of the season. The shot was a solo homer to left-center field that put the Sounds up 2-1 in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, the 'Topes scored a controversial run without recording a hit in the frame. Castellanos was hit by a pitch to start the inning and stole second before Sounds third baseman Robinzon Diaz committed two errors that allowed Castellanos the game-tying run. On the play, Justin Sellers hit a soft line drive that deflected off Diaz's glove for the first error, which led the defender into the base paths with Castellanos running from second base. Diaz tried to hold up, but third base umpire Gerard Asana ruled that Diaz interfered with the runner's progress and charged him with his second error and allow the runner an extra base. Sounds starting pitcher R.J. Seidel limited the Isotopes to two runs, one earned, on five hits across 5 2/3 innings of work. The righty fired nine strikeouts to match a career-high, having also fanned nine batters on May 25, also against Albuquerque. Reliever Michael Olmsted pitched a scoreless ninth inning, but loaded the bases on a single and three walks before recording the final out. Isotopes' starter Jonathan Sanchez (3-1) picked up the win, holding Nashville to two runs on three hits over six innings of work. Reliever Jay Guerra picked up the save, his sixth. The Sounds will look to retake the series lead Wednesday night at Greer Stadium against the Albuquerque Isotopes. Throwing for Nashville in game one will be lefty Aaron Laffey (4-4, 5.50) opposite the Isotopes' RHP Matt Magill (2-0, 2.90). The night will be a Great Clips #WebWednesday, where fans can receive ticket specials via the Sounds social media platforms. Nashville Box Nashville PbP Nashville Gameday

K-Rod to BAL for 21-year-old High-A 3B Nicky Delmonico

K-Rod to BAL for 21-year-old High-A 3B Nicky Delmonico
TooLiveBrew replied to MVP2110's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
For a cumulative 4 to 5 months of Greinke & Rodríguez, Melvin has brought in Jean Segura Johnny Hellweg Ariel Pena Nicky Delmonico His hand may have been forced to a certain extent in both cases, but I want to see more of this from the front office. This is how the Brewers need to focus on team building. -
R.J. Seidel with a solid performance tonight for the Sounds: [pre]5.2 IP 5 H 2 R 1 ER 0 BB 9 K[/pre]

Hard to take that list seriously, with where they have Jungmann & Bradley. But still, I find it a bit hard to believe that Delmonico wouldn't slot into the top 5 of any objective Brewers system ranking. What a great return for 2+ months of a reliever. Doug Melvin is definitely 2-2 on his last two trades.

K-Rod to BAL for 21-year-old High-A 3B Nicky Delmonico
TooLiveBrew replied to MVP2110's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I don't believe there's a consensus that Delmonico can't play defense? B-but one or two guys on the internet said it. He certainly has a lot of errors this season at 3B, but I'd definitely like to wait to see him play a bit before forming an opinion... especially since this is his first pro season at the position. Of course, all the scouting reports have proved true that Segura just isn't a plus as a SS defender... -
Khris Davis HR Propels Sounds Past 'Topes In Series Opener Nashville Earns Fourth Win In Last Five Games Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/i9cPiJe.jpg Khris Davis (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Khris Davis' three-run, seventh-inning homer propelled the Nashville Sounds to a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Monday evening at Greer Stadium in the opener of a four-game series. The victory was the fourth in the last five games for Nashville (37-66). Sounds batters rapped out 12 hits on the night but also struck out 15 times. Albuquerque took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Chili Buss singled, stole second, and scored on a one-out Justin Sellers double to left off Chris Narveson. The Sounds rallied into the lead against rehabbing Dodgers hurler Stephen Fife in the home half of the third. After Narveson drew a four-pitch walk to open the frame, the hurler moved to third on a Josh Prince single before scoring the tying run on Scooter Gennett's rocket RBI single to right that glanced off the top of first baseman Rusty Ryal's mitt. Nashville took a 2-1 lead when Prince scampered home on a Fife wild pitch. Khris Davis (2-for-4) extended the Nashville lead to 3-1 in the fifth when his two-out single to right brought home Gennett (3-for-5), who had singled earlier in the frame. Following the second-inning Sellers double, Narveson settled down and retired the next 14 Isotopes batters in succession through the sixth frame. The Zephyrs brought an end to Narveson's streak by loading the bases with no outs on a double followed by a pair of walks to chase the left-hander. Johnnie Lowe inherited the jam and induced a soft popup from Sellers for the first out before back-to-back bloop RBI singles knotted the game at 3-3. Following a popout, Travis Webb took over on the hill and walked in the go-ahead run, which was charged to Narveson, as Albuquerque reclaimed the lead at 4-3. Narveson, who was so dominant over the first six frames, was left with a no-decision after being touched for four runs on three hits while walking two batters and striking out seven. The Sounds jumped back in front in the home half of the seventh when Khris Davis smacked his 13th home run of the year, a three-run shot to left off Matt Palmer. Gennett and Robinzon Diaz, who extended his longest hitting streak of the year to eight games with a 2-for-4 evening, preceded the slugger with singles before scoring on the go-ahead jack. The visitors pulled back within a run at 6-5 in the eighth when Alex Castellanos belted a leadoff homer to left off Tim Dillard, the outfielder's 15th big fly of the year. Rob Wooten recorded the final four outs for the Sounds to lock down the win and earn his 20th save of the year. Albuquerque put the potential tying run into scoring position in the ninth with a two-out Dee Gordon single and stolen base before the right-hander struck out Matt Angle to close out the contest. Webb (2-4) was credited with the win for Nashville, while Palmer (5-4) absorbed the loss for the visitors after serving up the go-ahead homer. The teams continue the series with another 7:05 p.m. matchup on Tuesday. Right-hander R.J. Seidel (2-4, 5.52) will make the start for the Sounds and face Albuquerque left-hander Jonathan Sanchez (2-1, 6.93). Nashville Box Nashville PbP Nashville Gameday

Braun Suspended for Remainder of 2013 Season
TooLiveBrew replied to trwi7's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Roenicke just said it'll be Khrush Davis in the postgame presser -
Well I have zero problem with leaving a pitcher that you are theoretically showcasing for other teams out there longer. It's not like one blah appearance is going to scare anyone off. Gorzelanny has looked downright stellar in his recent starts. As long as he doesn't fall apart mechanically, the Brewers should be able to flip him. Picking on Roenicke for not caring is really missing the point imo. He obviously cares, but at this point in the season the priorities have changed. It's not time to micromanage to scrape out three more wins on the season to go from 67 to 70 wins on the season or whatever.

Could there be a strong market for Lohse?
TooLiveBrew replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
As monty57 has laid out many times, they're not going to get blown away with an offer. Unless you consider getting "blown away" getting a B-grade prospect... and even that I think is probably a long shot. If I'm a GM, I really am not interested in parting with anything of value for Lohse at his age & salary. If I have to part with something of value, I'm going to target a younger & more cost-effective target. -
Braun Suspended for Remainder of 2013 Season

This discussion needs to remain on-topic, & not devolve into ad hominem attacks. If you disagree with someone, find a way to post about the topic at hand & not the person with whom you're choosing to converse. If that can't happen, this thread won't last much longer (that's not a threat... merely an experienced observation). -
Braun Suspended for Remainder of 2013 Season
TooLiveBrew replied to trwi7's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Thank you, homer & markedman5. It seems to me like one way to deter a player from using PEDs is to include language that allows the signing club to void the entirety (or remaining entirety) of a contract. Players might roll the dice over a 50-game suspension, but I'm betting they wouldn't over millions & millions of dollars. Also, here are some particularly awesome quotes from that infamous 2012 ST presser: -
Braun Suspended for Remainder of 2013 Season

Does anyone know whether or not the Brewers have the option to void the remainder of his contract? I realize the Yankees considered something similar with A-Rod & wound up not doing it... but I'm curious about Braun's contract (if anyone knows, or knows of precedent). -
I'm guessing Youkilis Well played!! Ha. Sorry, brain fart. K Rod! I knew who you meant... just couldn't resist.

Sounds Blow Away Z's In Finale, 7-1 Nashville's Khris Davis Goes 2-For-4 For Season-Best 4 RBIs Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/OJB2M9b.jpg Khris Davis, archive photo (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) METAIRIE, La. - The Nashville Sounds powered past the New Orleans Zephyrs with a big first inning Sunday night at Zephyr Field to set up the 7-1 victory and the team's second road series win of the year: taking the four-game set three games to one. Sounds outfielders Khris Davis and Cole Garner provided the two extra-base knocks that gave Nashville the early 6-0 advantage. With one out and the bases loaded, Davis hit a double off the right-field wall for the first three runs of the inning. Batting eighth Cole Garner stepped to the plate with two on and two outs and connected for his eighth home run of the season. The three-run jack scored Davis and Blake Lalli, who reached base on balls. The six-spot matches the most runs scored in one inning by the Sounds this season, having also collected six runs in the 7th inning against Fresno on May 9. Khris Davis continued the action for Nashville in the third inning with a solo home run, his 12th, to lead-off the frame. He finished the night 2-for-4 and a season-best four RBIs. In his seventh Triple-A start, right-handed pitcher Jimmy Nelson (2-3) kept the Zephyrs to just three hits over six innings of work to pick up his second win and quality start with Nashville. The Z's worked one run off Nelson in the second without recording a hit. Nelson walked his first two batters and Matt Downs' groundout later in the inning got New Orleans on the board. Nelson fanned seven Z's and walked three before giving way to reliever Kyle Heckathorn in the seventh inning. Heckathorn held New Orleans to two hits across 1 1/3 innings. [Zach] Kroenke entered with one out and two on in the seventh and retired his two batters faced to avoid damage. Jesus Sanchez pitched a scoreless ninth. New Orleans' pitcher Jay Jackson (1-1) was charged with the loss, after the Sounds touched the right-hander for seven runs across five innings. Nashville batters finished with seven hits, as Robinzon Diaz and Garner both extended their season-best hits streaks to seven and five games respectively. The Sounds return to Greer Stadium Monday night to host the Albuquerque Isotopes (Dodger affiliate) to a four-game series. Throwing for Nashville in game one will be lefty Chris Narveson (2-6, 6.42) opposite the Isotopes' RHP Matt Palmer (5-3, 3.72).
