  2. Sounds Blown Out In Series Finale, 13-3 Nashville's Hunter Morris Logs 18th Home Run In Loss Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/WvAqL9c.jpg Hunter Morris, archive photo (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) AUDIO: Hunter Morris' Three-Run Homer MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds were unable to figure out either side of the Memphis Redbirds Sunday night at AutoZone Park, who limited Nashville to three hits in the decisive 13-3 loss. As a result, Memphis wins the four-game series 3-1. Trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning, Sounds slugger Hunter Morris came up with a three-run home run to right field to pull Nashville to within one. The homer, Morris' 18th of the season, scored Scooter Gennett and Josh Prince. Gennett reached base in the inning on a leadoff single into right field, which extended his hitting streak to a season-best 12 games. He has recorded a hit in each game since returning to the Sounds from Milwaukee on June 27. But any momentum the fourth may have offered Nashville was halted by a stellar performance from Redbirds' starting pitcher Tyler Lyons (4-1), who picked up his fourth win by limiting Nashville to two hits across eight innings. The lefty set down the Sounds in order in seven of his eight innings pitched, striking out nine and walking one. Reliever Victor Marte combined for the three-hitter, pitching a scoreless eighth. Caleb Gindl rapped a two-out double for the Sounds only other hit. While the Sounds struggled at the plate, the Redbirds pulled away in the eighth inning with eight runs. Reliever Michael Olmsted took the hill for Nashville in the frame and faced all nine Memphis batters, allowing seven runs on four hits and three walks. He exited with the bases loaded and one out to go. Travis Webb entered to attempt to record the inning's final out, but Adron Chambers hit a grand slam that was ruled just inside fair territory over the right-field wall. Webb disputed that the ball went foul and was ejected by first base umpire Hal Gibson III. Tim Dillard entered to record the final out. The Redbirds scored initially in the first inning, working the bases loaded before Chambers hit a sacrifice fly to center field for the 1-0 lead. Then in the third inning, Sounds starter Hiram Burgos (1-4) was touched for two home runs to give Memphis a 4-0 advantage. Kolten Wong, 2-for-4, connected for a lead-off blast, which was followed later by Jamie Romak's 19th of the season. Burgos took the loss, his fourth, allowing four runs on five hits across three innings of work. Reliever Kyle Heckathorn followed Burgos with his longest effort of the season, going four innings and holding Memphis to one run and two hits. The Sounds will head west to New Mexico to begin a three-game series with the Albuquerque Isotopes (Dodgers affiliate). Throwing for Nashville will be RHP Jimmy Nelson (1-2, 2.30) against an Albuquerque pitcher to be announced. Baseball returns to Greer Stadium on Thursday, July 11 for a BURGER KING Throwback Thursday, where fans can enjoy $2 beer and select concession items. Nashville Box Nashville Pbp Nashville Gameday
  3. I realize it's a bit of a gray area sometimes, but please try to keep these individual threads as on-topic with the original post as possible. Trying to avoid the same conversations taking place in multiple threads simultaneously.
  4. Mod Request In the interest of attempting to not have the same discussions taking place in 2 or 3 threads, please use this thread for any general Brewers trade rumors in 2013. For the other threads, please do your best to stay on topic with said thread's original post. I realize there isn't always going to be a black-&-white kind of context, but think of it this way: if you have to ask what thread it should go in, it should probably go in this one!
  5. As noted in the "Sellers at the Trade Deadline" thread, that was a tweet from McCalvy prior to Saturday's game (when Yo was on the hill), not today's. Here is the link to the MLBTR piece Bombers is citing, in which MLBTR misread the date on McCalvy's tweet, leading to the confusion.
  6. A couple notes on this IGT -- 1) Yes, I know the picture-to-template formatting sucks. I don't feel like finding & custom-cropping photos for this one (plus I really like these shots from MLB.com's Gameday preview). 2) It looks like the Gameday link won't be active until later on (likely tomorrow).

  8. It's only two starts, but obviously both have gone well. I think the fact that he was allowed to go over 80 pitches today might mean the Brewers plan on getting him in the rotation. Imo if they still saw him as a reliever, short-term, they wouldn't have burned his availability for so many days.
  9. In-game comments in this thread & the runs scored in today's game have played to a 3-3 draw. It's not even at the ASB yet. I think Attanasio's mantra of 'we can contend & rebuild at the same time' is going to be tested greatly at the ticket office this season.
  10. IHOP with another name-drop in one of the T-Rats player profiles (iirc Tyrone Taylor also touted it as the best IHOP he's ever been to). Either IHOP has a couple semi-celebrity spokesmen, or the Appleton location has some talented cooks.
  11. Mass Haas's Jed Bradley video post in today's Link Report definitely inspired this find.
  12. I remember doing a double-take at how much Pleskoff gushed over Segura this past spring. Turns out it wasn't fawning for fawning's sake. This is a great concise scouting report on Wagner. Definitely worth the time to read.
  13. A man among boys in his field.
  14. I don't think it's realistic for Corey to play outfield anymore, aside from the very very infrequent spot-start. His knees + outfield duty = ticking time bomb.
  15. I missed this, so thank you for posting so much content from it. Going to have to see if I can DVR this one.
  16. Worst case, I'd say MLB would wind up banning an innocent player for life. Which is why a one-strike-and-you're-out policy will probably never be in place.

  19. During Sophia Minnaert's pre-game interview footage with Segura, I just noticed Kyle Lohse slipping on some sort of compression sleeve/brace on his throwing arm in the clubhouse. Is that a pretty standard thing for a pitcher to wear on his off day(s)? Or would it possibly be an indicator that his earlier season elbow (tendonitis? can't recall what exactly it was) issue hasn't completely gone away?
  20. Thanks again, Minigoon
  21. Thornburg profiles best as a RP because he doesn't have great stuff. As a reliever, his fastball would be mid-90s and give him more margin for error. Even with good ERAs, he's been hit hard at basically every level of the minors -- his fb is straight and he tends to leave it 'fat' too frequently. Thornburg is only a viable SP on a non-contending club imo.
  22. We're spoiled by the quality photography the Helena squad has had so far... but... a 'pass'? I only hope it went for a touchdown...
  23. Sounds Fall 6-2 In Memphis Statia, Morris Homer For Nashville; Gennett, Gindl Extend Hit Streaks Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/02YgqBD.jpg Hainley Statia, archive photo (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds suffered a 6-2 defeat at the hands of the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds on Friday evening at Auto Zone Park. Nashville (32-57) out-hit Memphis, 11-7, in the loss, but the Sounds gave up more than three runs to the Redbirds for the first time in the clubs' 10 meetings this season. Following a 34-minute rain delay, Scooter Gennett (2-for-5) opened the contest with a single, giving him hits in each of his 10 games since rejoining the Sounds from Milwaukee. He is batting .410 (16-for-39) over that stretch. Hainley Statia, a late addition to the Nashville lineup following the scratch of Khris Davis, gave the Sounds a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when he went yard for the first time in nearly two years, pulling a Carlos Martinez offering down the right field line for a solo homer. It was the utilityman's first longball in 619 at-bats, dating back to July 30, 2011. The Sounds later loaded the bases with two outs in the frame against Martinez but the right-hander induced an inning-ending groundout from Blake Lalli to avoid further damage. Caleb Gindl (2-for-3) doubled during the inning to extend his longest hitting streak of the year to eight games (13-for-29, .448). Memphis jumped into the lead in the fourth with back-to-back home runs off Zach Kroenke, who hadn't allowed a hit in the first three frames. Greg Garcia started the Redbirds' fourth by reaching on a throwing error by Sounds shortstop Blake Davis. Two batters later, Jamie Romak belted his 17th home run of the year, a two-run shot to left that gave the home team a 2-1 advantage. Jermaine Curtis followed by driving a 2-0 Kroenke offering over the left field wall for his fourth big fly of the year, making it a 3-1 contest. Martinez (3-2) earned the win for Memphis after holding the Sounds to one run on six hits in his 5 1/3 innings of work. The Redbirds extended their lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth on left fielder Chris Swauger's two-out, two-run double to left-center off Kroenke (4-11), who suffered his league-leading 11th loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits over six innings. After Memphis added another run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly, Hunter Morris (2-for-5) led off the eighth inning with a solo homer to left off Mitchell Boggs, the slugger's team-leading 17th big fly of the year. Morris has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games at a .318 clip (14-for-44). The Tennessee rivals square off again at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday night. Right-hander R.J. Seidel (1-3, 5.72) will man the bump for the Sounds and face Memphis southpaw Nick Additon (5-4, 4.36).
