  1. I'd prefer Herrera over Schafer, but that's not saying much.... This bench is God-awful. Not sure if Melvin is this inept at building a bench, or if he likes to use the injury excuse. This team is going to have basically two or three automatic outs per game based on Roenicke's history of 'resting' regulars. The thing that really irks me is that they will have roughly $7 million invested in the bench due to Parra's bloated salary... they could have spread that money out and picked up a few guys who may actually have a chance of getting a hit in a pinch hitter role.
  2. This exact scenario played out 50 years ago in Milwaukee with the Braves. From what I've read, attendance tanked, and no sponsors would pay for spots on the radio broadcasts as they wanted no association with the Chicago carpetbaggers. I don't blame the fans one bit for that reaction, as I'd probably lose all interest in Major League Baseball moving forward if this were to happen with the Brewers.
  3. I have far more confidence in KRod at this point than I do in Broxton. Broxton has a long history of gascan tendencies in a closing role, while K-Rod has been mostly lights out when a closer here except for 2012 when the entire bullpen imploded.
  4. I trust Attanasio's financial judgements. The guy didn't become a mega millionaire by making poor decisions. I guarantee that their projected revenue increases allow for these moves. A million dollars today is worth far more than a million in four years. Also these are fairly low numbers being kicked around, at least relatively speaking. These aren't Bobby Bonilla/Mets type deals.
  5. I was guilty of calling Sanders a turd earlier in this thread. After watching his video, my opinion of him has changed somewhat. I think that he's more a thief than a turd at this point. Hopefully when he runs out of cash, the only place that he will be able to go is the Chinese basketball league.
  6. Unless the Dodgers step in, I think K-Rod IV is inevitable once his demands are reduced....we should have a pool. I'll say that he signs for 1 year/$7 million on March 2nd.
  7. I keep going back and forth on this deal. Yes, the Bucks sold high on Knight, but Philly did the same with Williams. I'm not sold that Williams is much more than a stat padder on a bad team. His shooting stats certainly are not encouraging, but hopefully he can continue to develop his defense and passing. This deal will almost certainly have an adverse effect on the team this season, but on the other hand the Bucks may have dodged a bullet by not overpaying Knight this summer.
  8. The Bucks shouldn't give this bum one thin dime. If he refuses to show up for practice, just suspend without pay. I'd rather see them sabotage his career than save a few bucks and give him an opportunity somewhere else. I never thought anyone could supplant Terrell Brandon as my all time most hated Buck, but this loser is giving him a run for his money.
  9. This is a case of 'not broke so don't fix it'. There is no need to bring anybody in if you ask me.
  10. I'm glad they didn't give up anything of value for Papelbon. I'm not a real fan of Broxton, but would rather have him at this point. That said, this whole episode was probably a negotiating tool for the inevitable return of K-Rod.
  11. I'm really surprised that he was able to get guaranteed money. I've been a big Weeks booster in the past, but the guy is washed up. I suppose he's OK off the bench, but he doesn't do anything particularly well offensively and has limited to no versatility in the field.
  12. As long as Luc doesn't pull a Johnny Estrada and gain 35 pounds because of a bad wheel, I'm not too worried about this.
  13. Was going to say yuck until I saw that it was a non-roster move. I wasn't aware that he'd fallen this far... very low risk, decent reward move if you ask me.
  14. K-Rod > Broxton in my book. My guess is that Melvin is just waiting him out until he's willing to settle for a one year deal. Thatcher would be a nice add as well at a discounted rate.
  15. One year partially subsidized by the Phillies would be OK. Two years, not so much. I would stay away if that is the only way he will come here.
  16. Interesting deal... kind of like a repeat of the Greinke trade... middle IF and two righty pitchers. Admittedly, I know little about the players, but looks like a decent return on paper for a guy who was almost certainly gone after this season anyway. I have to think something else is coming down the pike in the next few days as well.
  17. I was harsh on Bogut as well at the time. From what I remember, he walked away just as the team was starting to play well....he was extremely soft physically and mentally, and I was so glad when he was moved. Seems that some of his 'leadership' rubbed off on Sanders, though a lot of Larry's troubles have been self-inflicted. I am sympathetic to a point if he is dealing with mental health issues, but this pattern has been going on for almost two years, and he has a better support system in place with far more resources to deal with it than the average Joe. It's gotten to the point where the team needs to mandate a plan to get him back on the court, if he refuses to go along with that plan, he should be suspended without pay.
  18. Sanders is a turd. It would be the best possible outcome if he would retire and the Bucks could get off the hook with that contract, but it won't be that easy. He should be suspended without pay immediately. A textbook example of a guy playing for a contract and then lying down after he gets it.
  19. Martin is washed up, but the move would be a non factor either way. For laughs, I did some reading over at the realgm board.... you would think that they were waiving Parker to bring in Anthony Mason or something. A lot of those guys seem to think that there will be a big difference between the 11 and 16 pick this year. They also actually still think that Ersan has trade value.... Dudley and Mayo too.
  20. While I'm very grateful for everything that Bud has done for baseball in this city, the only way that I'd get excited about this is if they opened a full service Gilles counter at the stadium with a statue of Bud walking away from the counter with his 'usual' meal.
  21. Hart has a great agent. I'm pretty surprised that he's been able to get the money that he has the past two off seasons considering what happened the year before.
  22. This was a playoff team last year if most of the hitters didn't completely collapse all at the same time. That said, on paper, the Brewers still have one of the better lineups in the division. The pitching was good enough, and they are fairly deep in the rotation. I'm in the same camp that I was last year, go with what you have for another season and then decide the path moving forward. I certainly wouldn't make moves just for the sake of making moves to show that you are a contender....that is how you will end up paying a guy like Allen Craig ~ $10,000,000 in a couple of years. At this point, the only moves that I'd expect to see are depth moves as I hope that they learned their lesson from how incredibly thin their bench was last year. Shore up the bench and bullpen with cheaper veteran guys and then see where things stand on July 1.
  23. If Aoki could be had for 10 million over two years, I'd welcome him back. If it came down to it, I'd rather have him than Parra, but that ship has sailed. I doubt they would sign another backup OF to such a deal.
