  1. Unfortunately, I don't think that there is one. Too bad Hairston couldn't be coaxed out of retirement. I'm pretty confident that he would be a better option even now than Falu, Herrera or Bianchi.
  2. I remember that day pretty vividly. Pre-internet, you'd catch all of your news on the radio if you weren't home in front of the TV, and there were all kinds of developments during the day while I was at work. Even though things had been building after the murder that week, it was a shock hearing the authorities say that OJ was a wanted man on the run. At one point, I'm pretty sure there was a rumor that OJ had committed suicide at the grave site. I was playing beer league softball at the beginning of the chase. I remember getting hearing updates during the game and heading straight to a friend's house to watch. I'm almost certain it was a Friday.
  3. I was very sad to hear this, as he was always one of my favorite non Brewers. I went to a Brewers/Padres game at County Stadium after the league switch just so I could say that I saw him play in person. One interesting thing that I heard today is that he only struck out three times in a game once in his career. The opposing pitcher that day? Bob Welch, who also passed away a week or so ago.
  4. I still don't think that the Cavs pass on Wiggins.
  5. What a game! Not sure who gets the MVP... Yo, Segura, Luc, HP Umpire or dude in the field box seats.
  6. Why do they keep rerunning that Stein's commercial with Augie speaking in muffled inaudible tones and the Bruce Lee late night movie style overdub?
  7. This doesn't break my heart. Roughly $7.5 million for essentially half a year of Morales is pretty rich for my blood. I don't think he's that much of an upgrade over Reynolds. I'd prefer they wait things out and evaluate their needs/see who's available next month. A lot could change in six weeks.
  8. I thought that you were referring to June 6, 1983, a day that will live in infamy for the Brewers faithful when Gorman Thomas was traded to Cleveland, basically spelling the end of the Harvey's Wallbangers era. In honor of Gorman, my favorite Cardboard Gods piece (warning for a bit of vulgar language): http://cardboardgods.net/2007/01/05/gorman-thomas/
  9. The Medeiros kid looks a lot like Billy Wagner to me. I bet he couldn't throw a fastball straight if he tried, tons of movement. Slider looks filthy too.
  10. Oh well, the Cards blew a big lead tonight, so this one doesn't sting too bad.
  11. Has anyone heard anything about the induction ceremony next Friday? I'm wondering whether this is going to be a pregame on the field ceremony or something separate. I'm kind of surprised that I haven't heard more about it.
  12. How dare these guys publicly criticize a young player for taking $10 million bucks. There is a thing called risk aversion. By doing this deal, Singleton should be setting himself and his family for life while transferring a good deal of risk to the Astros. I wonder where the union would be if he suffered a career ending injury or didn't end up playing well enough to qualify for the MLB pension.
  13. I really don't see the need for Morales. I'm skeptical that he can step in mid season after not hitting live pitching for 8 months and provide an upgrade the rest of the way over what they have now. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. I'd rather the money be used for a utility guy/bench bat(s) and/or a reliever down the line. Morales is better suited for an American League team.
  14. Thanks for that, great read. I had never heard about that clause in the Sabathia deal before. Interesting.
  15. Based on rumors I've seen elsewhere, it sounds like a housecleaning in the front office is coming soon and additionally Drew is gone. My guess is that this will probably be timed similar to the Grunfield/Karl purge back in the day (after the draft). As for the colors, I'm kind of hoping that the two tone green style from the 80's is what they go with. I will never be accused of being stylish, but it seems that the brighter green color is 'in' these days. As for the draft pick, it's going to be a difficult decision regardless of who Cleveland picks.
  16. Just an immense win. This was shaping up to be one of the most frustrating losses I can remember. Seems like I had just finished cursing Roenicke out for putting the winning run on base when Showalter did the same. Not going to lie, I was more confident with Gallardo up to bat than I would have been with Falu or Herrera up.
  17. If the Bucks swap picks with Orlando, there is no guarantee that they would get Exum anyway. What they would end up with would be a guy that three teams passed over for a better option. I also have zero faith that the 12 pick would turn into anything worthwhile with Hammond drafting, so I don't want to see a deal. The only deal that I would even consider would be if the Bucks had Exum on top of their board and Cleveland took Embiid. If the Sixers really covet Wiggins would they do 3 and 10? Again, the only way that I do this is if Exum is their clear choice.
  18. I would absolutely pass. The whole point of this tanking exercise was to secure multiple high picks across a few years. Two lower lottery picks would likely help the team get back to mediocre range more quickly, but the odds of getting a franchise player fall way off after the first 2 or 3 picks. Get the building block this year, stink again next year and get another high pick. Not only that, but I wouldn't trust Hammond to get two lower picks right. It will be hard for him to mess up the number two pick.
  19. The Bucks successfully tanked, landed the 2 pick in a draft with a handful of potential superstars, and now people want to trade down? Heresy if you ask me.
  20. I'm guessing that Tampa would want to pillage the young pitching for any of those guys. That would probably mean Nelson. Because of the contract, they may go lower on Loney, but it would still require decent prospects. Longtime board favorite David DeJesus would probably be gettable for a more reasonable price though.
  21. So close yet so far away. I don't see any scenario where the Cavs do not draft Wiggins. Parker would be the safe pick here, both of the other guys are huge risks with big upside. Will be an interesting few weeks to be sure.
