  1. I'll give them Gamel, Braddock and a disgruntled player to be named. Sounds like a match.
  2. This weekend against the Reds: Arroyo and his 40 HR's allowed and a 5.5+ ERA I'd be shocked if they score more than 3 runs off Arroyo tonight. They always make him look like a Cy Young candidate. With his mid-80's fastball, he looks like the most hittable pitcher in the game, and is right up there for most teams except for the Brewers. This is a team that was shutdown by Kevin Millwood a few days ago, so I expect nothing for tonight. Vegas has the Brewers as dogs FWIW.
  3. My thoughts exactly. I actually think the media has been trying to drum up some national interest/'drama' for a Brewers playoff run based on some of the big 'stories' coming out of Milwaukee the past few days.
  4. RRR decides for the final 9 games he needs to get JHJ in the lineup for Yuni, hoping to get more offense in the lineup on a consistent basis. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy. However, when was the last time he got a hit?
  5. I think that they take 1 of 3 in each of the next three series and then sweep the Pirates, clinching on GM1 or GM2 in that series- #3 seed. I think the Cardinals go 8-5 over the last 13 missing the wild card, and Arizona wins 9 or 10 out of 12 securing the 2.
  6. Kirk Cameron would probably give the lineup an upgrade at this point.
  7. I'm reserving the right to panic until after the weekend. I fully expect the Brewers to lose on Friday. They always make Arroyo look like Pedro Martinez in his prime. I'd be happy with one out of three in Cincinnati. The Phillies will probably lie down as well, not to mention that St. Louis is going to miss Halladay. The Brewers need to win at least one and the Cardinals need to lose at least two, or things are going to get real interesting.
  8. Good grief, Kershaw just got ejected due to a HBP with a 2-0 lead. This was one game that I counted on Arizona to lose. Now watch the Dodger bullpen gag another one to them on a silver platter.
  9. I heard Anderson mention this earlier. This is the biggest bombshell since K-Rod said he was upset about not getting saves. Is Boras in town or something? In other news, water is wet and the Brewers bats go into hibernation annually on or around September 1. In all honesty, my guess is there were some behind the scenes negotiations that went nowhere in the past few weeks.
  10. Escobar was blocked, but he was brought up in 2009 and rarely saw the bench last year despite playing poorly for most of the year. If Prince is gone, I would rather see Gamel get an opportunity at first than some free agent retread.
  11. I believe that Etch was brought in by Bamberger both as a player and a coach (in his second stint). They were probably buddies from the Orioles days. Back then, the Brewers had tons of catchers- Charlie Moore, Buck Martinez and Ray Fosse- who was always hurt. My guess is that either one returned from injury and there wasn't room for him anymore.
  12. Very cool. I bet that thing still smells of Aqua Velva and Lucky Strikes.
  13. Now that's what I'm talking about. Thanks for the picture, my memory is a little faulty- I was pretty sure he was sporting the perm mullet, and not the Mike Brady. This confirms those memories.
  14. Cammy is toast as a player, but it's a joke for the Marlins to pull this. They are paying him the league minimum, aren't they? Fake an injury and send him home.
  15. This is a picture that looks to be from his forgettable playing days with the Crew- sadly, the only picture of this man in a Brewers uniform that I could find. You'll have to take my word for it that a few short years later, this guy would rock the best perm-unibrow combo in big league history while coaching for the crew- wearing the #8 pinstripes. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Otimo6qIL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

  17. One thing that I remember from the first two nights is waiting in line after the game to buy tickets for the next night's game. The lines were pretty long, which was pretty much unheard of back in those days. The night of the hit (Wednesday after Labor day I believe), I was way up on the first base upper grandstand with a good view of the traffic gridlock. I'm pretty sure the game didn't start until 8 because Selig was stuck in traffic after just having been named interim commissioner.
  18. The Brewers just need to take care of business and win some games. Frankly, I don't think the schedule is that 'easy'. In particular, I worry about the next 5 games. The Brewers have historically been pretty bad against Colorado, and the Reds are still a dangerous team. Even the series at Wrigley is going to be tough. The Cubs have been playing better lately as well. The D-Backs have a pretty easy schedule down the stretch (Pirates, Padres, the fading Giants and the Dodgers 6 times- but likely only getting Kershaw once, etc.), so I think that it will be a challenge to stay ahead of them.
  19. Yes, he got one hit each night. The night of 3,000 was right behind Easter Sunday for the best game I've ever been to. Unfortunately, the loss was extremely damaging to the Brewers' playoff hopes. I remember Darren Holmes (I believe) throwing a ball down the third base line.
  20. at the Braves being the best franchise in baseball in the late 50s. If we are talking 57,58 and 59 as the late '50's, I don't know who was better. The Braves were within a few games of three straight pennants.
  21. Or, he's the student who doesn't have to show up to class (or doesn't seem to listen while in class), but still gets good grades. A lot of teachers despise those students. Exactly. If he was some prima donna former first round pick who hadn't done squat in the minors, I'd have no problem dumping him. The guy has put up numbers everywhere he's been, and did fairly well in his only real chance in the majors over two years ago. From watching him then, he seemed to have the tools to be a solid hitter.
  22. Really? Nobody is asking him to kiss up to his boss, but you felt the need to introduce that phrase here. It certainly seems like you think showing up for work on time and following coaching advice, you know, being a decent employee, is kissing up to the boss. If you don't, why even bring that up? I disagree. First of all, you can be a decent employee without kissing up to the boss. Performing your job at and exceeding it's job description, can still result in a personality clash with the boss. Especially when the boss themselves is incompetent. Actually, many times it's those who do not perform up to standards who have a better relationship with the boss. Ever heard of the crony system? If you haven't seen this, you are either too young, have had very good bosses- or you are the boss. As for the actual topic, Money seems like the type of guy who likes to pal around with his favorites. Obviously Gamel isn't in the clique. Money is pulling excuses from three years ago, but this says it all: "Money did praise Gamel's play and commitment at first base, a position he was hesitant to adopt the year before. ". He sounds like an idiot here: ""The big question is, can he play it every day? Well, he can play first, but can he hit enough?" Money said. "That's the big 'if.'" Don't throw his 40 some odd plate appearances over the past two years at me either. If Money was going to throw Gamel under the bus, he had better have some concrete examples from this year better than 'he came to camp overweight'. This is a joke: "Gamel finished the Triple-A season in a slump that Money attributed to trying for the two home runs he needed for his first 30-homer season. ", and this comes off as gloating ""Maybe it's an awakening that, 'Hey, I'm not the big boy on the block anymore,'" At any rate, Money should have kept his mouth closed. Like I said, it was bush league to throw Gamel under the bus.
  23. It has nothing to do with politics. If that was the case, Gamel wouldn't have been called up to be a DH this year. I think people who are assuming malice are probably projecting their own experience onto Gamel here. Absolutely not. I just don't like the organization's passive-aggressive manner in which they deal with Gamel. If he is truly a discipline problem, showing up late, etc., be forthright with him and fine/suspend him if necessary. Don't play mind games after the season he had- and then throw him under the bus in the press with pithy comments. That's bush league. It's obvious that there is no love lost between him and Money- obviously those two have been together for too long.
  24. Gamel needs to get a shot at the big league level. He's done more than enough to prove himself in the minors. This is looking like politics, pure and simple- In this case Money is just the company man acting as the mouthpiece. This goes on in my place of employment, and probably nearly every other workplace...So what if he doesn't kiss up to his manager or even pal around with his teammates? He may be the biggest tool in the world, but as far as I know he's never failed a drug test or been arrested. They let Escobar stink the joint up for a full year without a benching- and by many accounts, he is a despicable human being. Google 'Escobar wife' to find out more if you don't know the story already.
  25. I think Neugebauer was either a sandwich or a second. Another guy in a long line of Brewers pitching prospects who could have been a good one had he not blown his arm out.
