  1. Since the ASG, it seems like Prince and Rickie are both in major slumps. Prince is homerless and hitting just south of .200 and Rickie is hitting just north of .200 with 2 homers. My memory could be wrong, but it seems like anytime a Brewer takes part in this they go to pot in the near term after the break. On the other hand, it seems like the Brewers almost have an All Star Game jinx in general. Hart struggled for a long time after getting picked, as did Hardy. Guys like Jenkins really struggled and Turnbow/Kolb/Nilsson (partly by choice) pretty much fell of the face of the earth.
  2. I'd be upset over a visiting player over doing something like Morgan did last night, but Giants fans are very toolish. Almost no doubt he will do something else on the field this weekend that will offend their sensibilities. Cardinals West.
  3. There are worse players on the roster as we speak...Counsell now has a -.7 WAR. Isn't that pretty ridiculous for a part time player? How many runs is that value worth? Watching his at bat last night was funny. The Giants catcher reminded me of mine in high school when the #9 hitter was up and I threw a few balls... he was like slow down and keep the ball down, don't walk this guy.
  4. If Yuni gets into positive WAR territory, what do we say then?
  5. Since the Posey thing, I'm starting to hate the Giants and their fans more than the Cubs. Never thought that was possible. As for Morgan, I like the fact that there is someone on the team who would charge the mound if they thought they got drilled on purpose- as opposed to putting head down and running to first (Braun and most of the rest of the team), talking tough and waiting to get held back (Weeks) or looking for the guy 'under the stands' (Prince).
  6. I think he's lost a little speed, but he still looks like a huge 'steal' when you consider the contract that Jayson Freaking Werth got.
  7. If I had to bet, they will decline his option. I've been wrong before, and time will tell, but I really don't see the point in a team who could possibly be coming off a high 90's/100 loss season giving a 34 year old who has missed 100 some games due to injury over the contract $14 million as a stopgap measure.
  8. The defensive metrics have him above average for this year at least- though I will grant that this is out of line with his historical figures.
  9. Lots of d-bags out there will do anything for literally a few bucks. I got lucky and got 3 tickets for Wednesday and I'm thrilled about it. If anyone was on there this morning trying to get these to resell, they seriously need to get a life and/or a job.
  10. I'm not liking Marcum much in this spot. Hopefully they get someone up in the pen here.
  11. I don't even think that the Cubs are stupid enough to pay Ramirez $14 million next year.
  12. That play is meaningless. Betemit is a plus defender. WAR says so.
  13. Can't believe it. I actually got 3 tickets to Wednesday's game after finally getting in at about 8 after. This is the first time that I've ever 'won' one of these things. Thank you Caterpillar Mining!
  14. Stop interviewing local residents. Unless they escaped from Dahmer's apartment, they don't have anything interesting to say. Stop showing headless fat people walking around while you read about the latest obesity stats. Stop showing some goof from the health department telling us not to over-exert ourselves in hot weather. We know not to. Post of the week, my friend. You have summed up why watching the local news makes me nearly as angry as watching Kammy Loe choke a lead away.
  15. He's one of the handful of guys that I would target. I like his power, versatility and contract.
  16. Very nice gesture. What's the over/under on the server crashing? I'll say 8:57 AM.
  17. I'll take Narvy at the plate ahead of Counsell that's for sure.
  18. I think Prince is voted the NL MVP at this point, despite the poor defense and recent slump at the plate. No way this team would be in first place right now without him, so why would you move him?
  19. I'll pass on Beltran. He will be extremely expensive in terms of prospects, and I want no part of resigning him. He's having a nice season, but so is Melky Cabrera- who is also reportedly on the market, can still play center field and switch hit. I would guess Cabrera would be much cheaper than Beltran.
  20. I don't think that seems odd at all. I think most relievers would tell you that they'd prefer to come in with nobody on base. Coming in with guys on base I'm sure, is tough. You're not responsible for those guys, but I'm sure you feel bad if someone else's ERA gets jacked because you couldn't hold an inherited runner. I know these guys should just 'perform', but I think inherited runners is definitely something that can easily affect the human element/mental part of the game. Right. I was commenting more on the way the closer role has (d)evolved over the past 30 or so years, from the 'Fireman' type pitcher who may come in the game in the 8th or even (gasp) the 7th inning with guys on base to put out the fire, as opposed to guys these days who get plopped in the 9th with their team up 3 or less runs.
  21. Carroll seems like a stop gap for the weekend. At first glance, he looks like a AAAA guy to me, but he seems to be hitting pretty well in Nashville. I'll give him a chance.
  22. Like I said, it's a coin flip. Usually, I'm perturbed when guys get pulled while throwing a shutout because of a pitch count, but two factors made me OK with last night. First, how many times this season have we seen a guy cruising along only to give up a three run bomb? Second, this is the reason that they acquired KRod. My guess is that as a closer, he's probably more comfortable coming in to begin an inning (which seems odd, but that's the way the closer role is in today's game).
  23. Did not know that he was from Janesville. I remember watching him a lot back in the day on the antenna at 10, and later when we actually got Milwaukee stations on cable (now we are stuck with Madison and Rockford). I cannot stomach the local news anymore, mostly because guys like John with their approach to the news are gone. The definition of 'news' has changed for the local stations. It also drives me crazy watching the local stations for Brewers news- with the Madison stations leading with two UW stories, followed by a prep story, then the Brewers blip- good thing it isn't necessary anymore.
  24. Normally, I'm in favor of letting a guy with a shutout go out there until he gets in trouble. However, it seems like this season, a lot of guys have went into the mid innings with a shutout only to give up a crooked number- Narveson, in particular has had the tendency to have 'one bad inning'. I really can't argue it either way, especially with KRod in the fold. Now, if Loe was coming in to pitch the 8th, I would have been absolutely irate with Roenecke.
