  1. I think you hit the mark with this. I don't think that they can sustain the home winning pct., but I don't think they should be as horrible on the road as they've been, either.
  2. I remember catching the Stubbs signing on CNN Headline News at the :19 mark (anyone remember that?). I remember saying, (I believe) '$8 million for Franklin Stubbs?' Back in those days before the Internet and multi-ESPN's with their crawls, that was one of the only ways to scratch my hot stove itch during the winter meetings. I believe that was the winter that Kirk Gibson spurned the Brewers to sign with the Royals. I was extremely disappointed, and getting Stubbs as the consolation prize made it even worse.. then they traded Dave Parker for Dante Bichette in spring training, and I really wigged out.... at least they re-signed Teddy Higuera, I was happy for that because I thought for sure that the Padres would swipe him http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. I'd have no problem exploring an extension with Greinke right now, but I doubt if he would sell low. I'll be shocked if he doesn't get his ERA down to the low 4's or better by the end of the year. I think he's going to go on a roll. People forget that Sabathia wasn't lights out the first half of 2008 either. If Greinke can do 80% of what what CC did in the second half, I'll be happy.
  4. Sean Berry might be the only real competition. Maybe Marques Grissom in his Operation Shutdown year of 2000. I take it that you missed the 'Rick Manning era'. Pedro Garcia, Randy Ready, and Jimmy Wohlford say 'hi' as well. Lest we forget Franklin Stubbs.
  5. The real question is where is Rock? Doesn't he have a son in the military? I'm assuming that he may be home on leave.
  6. Frankly, I think both St. Louis and Pittsburgh have been playing out of their minds, and they are only a handful of games over .500. I think that 87 or 88 wins will take it. I also think that Cincy will end up to be the main hurdle.
  7. Steve Stone doesn't have a professional sounding voice either, but he's one of the best. Joe Buck has the store bought voice, but he's a tool. As for Cirillo, I think he's doing pretty good for getting thrown right into things, though the evil part of me would have liked the comic relief that Augie as the color guy would have brought. He's been around for three years, and still looks like a deer in the headlights on the booth shows.
  8. Exactly. I'll never forget when I saw the 'Motre Bame' hats for the first time at the mall in early '94. I thought that it was a bad joke at the time. Judging from the outfield walls at County Stadium during that time, the Brewers were pretty 'minor league' back then, weren't they?
  9. People actually like that hat? I'm guessing that you guys were young when it came out. I call it the Mickey Mouse hat, because at the time it was released, there were 'Mickey' hats with a very similar 'M' on them.
  10. It would be consigned to an auction house and would be sold to the highest bidder, if the player truly wanted it they would be welcome to bid, I'd assume they'd have the money. As the players say, 'it's a business'.
  11. I think Sixto is the iconic call, followed by Robin's 3,000, Braun's homer against the Cubs and Easter Sunday in that order.
  12. Loved when Powell would hate on the Yankees...
  13. It's tough for me not to like Jeter. I know that he's vastly overrated to due playing in NY (if you can call a likely first ballot HOF overrated), but he reminds me a lot of Robin Yount.
  14. How do you figure? Counsell has been in MKE for what, 5 years in all? Of those, the only good season that he had at the plate was two years ago when he first changed his stance. He's been mediocre at best the rest of the time, and this year he looks like he is conjuring the ghost of Ray Oyler. I know that he's a really easy guy to root for, but he's just not a MLB caliber player anymore. When is the last time that he pulled a fastball? Lots of weakly hit balls to the left. The bat speed is gone, and he hasn't looked great in the field either, as should be expected from a guy who will be 41 soon.
  15. "Yeah, Adams wasn't really regarded as any sort of loss when Melvin traded him. His bounce back has been pretty remarkable, and I don't think you can criticize Melvin in hindsight." Like I said, 5 years later, it was a poor move, but it's greatly outweighed by the scrap heap pickups of Kolb, Turnbow and Axford, among other bullpen guys. It's not like he added him into a trade to get Laynce Nix or anything:)
  16. I'm happy for their fans. However, they remind me of some of the mid to late 90's Brewers teams that hung in playoff contention until the big dogs started adding guys (are you listening, Melvin?) and the undermanned team started to fall apart due to injuries, etc.. The Brewers play them 10 times more this season, lets hope the mojo continues, or at least doesn't take a big swing the other way like it was in the late 90's.
  17. They could install a 'basket' a la Wrigley. I know that people have fallen in that before.
  18. Counsell is slugging .212 for heaven's sake. He needs to go. If they want to save face, maybe he could get 'injured'. Otherwise, if he thinks that he can still play, you have to send him packing. It's cool that he's from Wisconsin, and I'm sure that he's a good dude, but it's clear that he's done.
  19. As I said on the other thread, I don't get the Kotsay hate when Counsell has been much worse. If anyone needs to go, it's Counsell. I don't want to hear the 'no replacements' argument either, keeping both Counsell and Wilson is overkill.
  20. Kotsay really isn't that bad as a 25th guy on the roster. I'm not saying he's a good player, but I've seen a lot worse- including Counsell. Sure, I wish they would have gotten Hinske instead, but Kotsay has filled in at four positions and he hasn't been horrible at the plate. Would Boggs be better? Maybe. But he doesn't really have a track record of success, and he's hitting .240 ish at Nashville. I guess that I don't get the hate for Kotsay.
  21. Though he's pitched very well this season, I still don't have a lot of confidence in Hawkins, but I don't have a problem with him going in last night. If there has to be an '8th inning guy', better him than Loe.
  22. This sort of thing has been going on forever, with lots of close calls. Today I saw a link to an amazing video that I've never seen. I can't believe that it's never been on any of the sports compilation shows before.
  23. I said it back then. Coming into 2009, you have a shortstop and you are talking about forcing him to third after he's played solid defense and averaged 25 homers the past two seasons? For a guy who was in AA? As 2009 went on, I'm thinking that he got into Macha's doghouse and out he went. Obviously, for whatever reason, the team decided that they weren't interested in keeping him around for the long term, so they played games with his service time. I'm guessing some things went on with Hardy that ticked off the team at some point in time before 2009. They were just lucky that McGehee busted out at third for two years, but now the move looks really stupid- with the four headed monster on the left side of the infield. It really wouldn't look much better with Escobar still here either.
  24. Villanueva was Macha-ed. He was done here.
  25. It was a horrible thing and watching it made my stomach turn, especially considering his son was right there. However, it was a freak accident. I agree in the hope that we don't get a bunch of knee jerk reactions after the lawyers do their thing.
