  1. That's just not true. He had a bad 2009 and then people wrote him off. He hit .270/.370/.529 last year and is hitting .299/.373/.530 this year. Now I wouldn't want him to try to field and his splits vs LHers are to be more pronounced as he ages but the talk of him being through was highly premature. 2004-2007: 44 HR average2008-2010: 28 HR average He may not be through, but I don't like the direction that he's moving. Even if he's not fudging his age, he'll be 36 soon.
  2. "Dunn's and Mauer's 2010 performances are a perfect example of how poor baseball fans can be at judging the relative value of some types of players." Not to get off too off topic here, but I thought that Adam Dunn was a perfect replacement for Fielder because of his sabermetrics? Aren't strikeouts and low batting average meaningless? (not to mention age, huge frame and potential fielding liabilities) At best, Adam Dunn is going to be a post-1980 Dave Kingman for the White Sox.
  3. Pass. It's been speculated that he's quite a bit older than he claims, and his performance at the plate has fallen off the table since the crackdown on PEDs. At least one of the two is likely the culprit for his decline. Yet another guy that doesn't really fit on a team without a DH.
  4. If by good you mean below replacement level I'd agree with you. He has been one of the worst defensive SS in baseball on the year without a doubt, though we are talking bottom 10 instead of bottom 5 like I expected I guess. I disagree strongly with this statement. There are only 2 teams in major league baseball with fewer errors at shortstop than Milwaukee (with Yuni playing about 90% of the time). Brewer shortstops are also above MLB average in assists and double plays.
  5. Though I'd be surprised if an AL team didn't snap him up, if he's available, I think that best case you stash him at Nashville for about a month. Get him regular at bats as a DH, and give him a look see at third base a few times. Once the inevitable injury happens, call him up. He's certainly a better option than Almonte and Nieves/Rivera (not to mention the two unnecessary pitchers taking up roster spots).
  6. Post of the month. Sorry to offend anyone, but if you aren't Irish, and your son has one of these names, I know who wears the pants in your household.
  7. Agreed. Alcides obviously has a higher value based on his potential. To be honest though, I'm glad the Brewers traded him while he still had some value. Otherwise, we could have been stuck with him for a few more years, waiting for him to develop into anything at the plate. Simply put, for the 2011 Brewers, Greinke+Betancourt>>> Pavano (etc.)+Escobar+Jeffress+Cain. It will probably take at least five years for us to determine a 'winner' for the big trade, but so far the Brewers are out to a nice early lead.
  8. That's exactly my point. Frankly, no one will convince me that Punto isn't horrible and worse than Betancourt- we all can agree to disagree on that. As for the second guessers, I don't get it- If Punto had played in every game at shortstop with solid defense and was hitting over .300, I could see the 20/20 hindsight. In reality, he can't stay healthy and has played one game at shortstop, so this argument makes no sense. In the end, Alcides has been horrible at the plate this year. Had the Greinke trade not been made, he would have been 'penned in' as the starter. No matter how much you hate Betancourt, it would be tough to argue that he's not at least been a push with 2011 Escobar.
  9. I don't mind the Reds at all. They seem pretty much like the Brewers, lots of young talent, actually they're probably less 'cocky' than the Brewers. The only Red that I truly dislike is Cordero. As for the Cardinals hate, it's almost eclipsed the Cubs for me. First things first, I can't stand Pujols. I think that he's a showboat (loved last week when he went into 'homer mode' and the ball didn't get out), he also seems like a world class jerk, and I'll go to my grave convinced that he's a cheating HGH user. Outside of Tiger Woods, no athlete has as many fan boy jock riders than Pujols, and they are incredibly annoying too. I also can't stand a small chunk of the Cardinals fanbase, which is quite large (probably encompassing 5-6 states because of geography), most specifically, I can't stand the fans that travel to Milwaukee for games. The run of the mill Cardinal fans that I've met in Southern Illinois, Memphis, etc. are pretty cool and knowledable, but for whatever reason, the ones that I've encountered at Brewers games and on the internet tend to be idiots. This is usually the case with most fanbases, but it seems amplified for Cardinals fans.
  10. I'm all for bringing Branyan back. It seems like whenever his career is flagging a tad, a stint with the Brewers gets him going again. Why not do an arrangement like last time with him starting down in Nashville to get his stroke back? I'm sure circumstances will dictate his return soon enough. The team could give him an out clause if he wasn't called up by the end of June or something.
  11. Really? Ask a Twins fan about Punto at short-my friends in the cities call him a 'poor man's David Eckstein'. There is a reason that he has been playing shortstop less and less in recent seasons. Why has LaRussa used him at short only once this season? Counsell was always 'solid but not spectacular'. I wouldn't classify him as 'rangy' at all, at least during his Brewers tenure. I won't accuse you of 'trolling', but let's say I find the Punto at shortstop second-guessers to be a bit preposterous.
  12. It's such a dramatic swing between home/road records, I'm starting to wonder if our boys like the nightlife on the road a little too much.
  13. I concur. I would argue that the 12th pitcher isn't needed either, but that's an argument for another day.
  14. I take it that you missed the Jason Kendall era, then? Betancourt has hit more balls hard to outfielders already than Kendall (or Punto) would do in an entire season. Counsell is used up, which has been clearly evident last year and this year. The ONLY thing that either of them does better than Betancourt is draw a walk. Defensively, Punto is a butcher at short and Counsell has lost most of his range with his advanced age and injuries.
  15. Punto is brutal, enough said. Counsell is over 40 and looks every bit of it. Is Yuni a stud? No, but he's no where near as bad as many would have you believe. Betancourt has hit three homers this season, Punto has hit 3 homers.... since some point in 2008, Counsell since some point in 2009. As for the game last night the HR ended up greater than the error, due to Prince's HR. Had the Brewers lost due to the error, it would have been a push.
  16. This really sucks. He had it all as a wrestler. Great in the ring, one of the best 'personas' ever and awesome interviews. When he and his counterparts started retiring, I lost interest in wrestling. It's just not the same to me anymore. I might have to hit up the Wrestlemania documentary on Netflix this weekend to watch the epic Wrestlemania match with Ricky Steamboat. There will never be another Macho Man, that's for sure.
  17. Why does anyone want Counsell to receive significant playing time? He's toast. His best attribute at this point is drawing a walk, so I don't know why he is immune from the heat here. From everything I've seen Betancourt is better than average defensively. There, I said it. I think that his supposed lack of range is completely overplayed, as he's proved with plays during the past few weeks. Most importantly, he always makes the routine play with a strong and accurate arm, and is quite adept at turning two. He has been in a slump lately, but all it would take is a mini hot streak to get himself going. For example, Kotsay is now hitting .273. It's funny how it was about the defense when Yuni was hitting, now it's the offense again.
  18. Now I'm really confused. Just checked the 'old TV' in the garage, and the game is on..... I guess that I'll have to call customer service.
  19. Thanks for checking, I appreciate it. Odd since I don't appear to be getting blacked out or anything. I'll have to call customer service, since last night, all that I get is the logo and the annoying song that goes with it, like they cut to after every game is over.
  20. Thanks for the update. Are you watching 669? I fear that my antiquated equipment/dish may finally be rearing its ugly head. I don't have the HD set up.
  21. Anyone watching this on Directv? I can't get the game, and wanted to check before I call them. Thanks.
  22. Why would they have any interest whatsoever in this guy? Is it the 1.5 plus career WHIP or the fact that he walks over 5 guys per 9 innings? He sounds like the Rockies version of Manny Parra. Why would you trade Estrada for him?
  23. This is an absolutely horrible draft, especially at the biggest needs for the Bucks. I think that Burks will be gone by #10, he's shooting up the boards. Best case is that they could trade the pick, but my guess is that they will end up drafting another international guy.
