  1. Well, ten run rule. For the first time this season, turned the game off in frustration.
  2. Dillard needs to go bye bye. He is not a major league pitcher, and I'm tired of watching him.
  3. Is this meant to be in blue? I'm guessing Hoyer and Theo are willing to deal with teams that they haven't previously worked for. Not trying to be a jerk here....just curious if you were being serious or not? I was being about 50% sarcastic. Outside of the Zambrano gift, almost every trade that the new regime has made has been with the Red Sox or Padres. I'm willing to cut them some slack, because pretty much every GM does this sort of thing, but I'll admit that I don't subscribe to the school of thought that Theo is a genius.
  4. I don't blame the Brewers a bit for not extending an offer yet to Marcum. What if the carriage turns into a pumpkin again in August and Marcum hits a wall?
  5. Thought that this was an interesting draft day read. http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_20778614/shooter-now-st-louis-cardinals-lost-paul-molitor
  6. 3rd-As pitchers lose velocity, obviously their fastballs and their off-speed pitches don't have the the same difference in speeds. That's going to impact the soft tossers more. To me, this is the key. The slower the fastball gets, the easier it is to sit on the offspeed stuff and adjust to the fastball. As for the wear and tear argument, I couldn't really care less about deliveries. Marcum has a history of major surgery on his arm, and that would concern me moving forward. Bottom line, let someone else overpay for him.
  7. It's pretty likely that Dunn's career batting average will stay around the .240 mark. I'd say that there's no way will the voters put someone in with an average that low.
  8. For me, I always have a soft spot for him because as a kid I watched a ton of White Sox games on WGN and whatever the Chicago sports station was on the old C-Band satellite dishes was (I think it might have just been Chicago Sports Network), so I heard lots and lots of Hawk and Wimpy. Even though I don't generally see the game the same way he does (or even close) I enjoy him for nostalgic purposes. The "he gone!" and "put it on the board... YES!" stuff is a fun gimmick. Maybe it's because, to me.... Steve Stone >>>>>>> Paciorek. I don't know, but I used to detest Harrelson with a passion, and now I get a kick out of him.
  9. Well, the Padres pulled the plug. Suppan has been DFA'd, and his MLB career is mercifully over. Not surprisingly he had his best game against the Brewers. So much for giving him a nice welcome back to Milwaukee next Saturday. I bet that he would have gotten a rousing ovation.
  10. The only way that I have interest is if the Sox ask for very little in return (Veras?) and send some money back with him. The guy is definitely on the decline, and overpaid in a huge way.
  11. I honestly get the feeling that some people would be disappointed if the Brewers went on a June run to pull within a few games of first. It seems like these folks have been getting their hopes up about a bunch of trades and a rebuilding process. Seriously, were you guys too young to 'enjoy' the 1993-2003 era? What I don't get is the concept that just because a few fringe starters are hurt and some key guys have underperformed, the season is lost. Bottom line, the Brewers are still not a bad team on paper, especially with Braun and that starting rotation. To be honest, I don't see one team in the N.L. that doesn't have some warts. If you do trade guys...even before the new compensation rules, teams were not getting much for deadline deals. When is the last time that a team has made out like a bandit on one? The last one that I can think of was the Texiera deal five years ago. Non-star players also have seemed to bring very little back in recent years, most of these guys are flipped for little or nothing, Dean Taylor style. Bottom line, I'd rather win games, have an entertaining summer, and risk losing guys for nothing, than to watch bad baseball and trade guys for close to nothing.
  12. The only way that they would trade Castro is if the Red Sox or Padres had some hotshot young talent they were willing to part with....
  13. Pittsburgh is much better than in year's past. Don't we hear this every year? They were in first place on July 19 last summer, and everyone jumped on the bandwagon... then they collapsed. Their offense is beyond brutal, though I hope that Randy Wolf isn't the cure for that ailment.
  14. They're only 5 1/2 out now. If they get hot, I think they can probably pick up more than 1/2 a game in a month. Exactly. I didn't want to sound too optimistic. The schedule gets a bit tougher at the end of the month too. I will say that I'll be disappointed if they don't pick up a game or two during this homestand.
  15. I hope that they go on a tear. Everything's definitely lined up for them to do so. Injuries or not, they are better than most of these teams on paper. Frankly, a May dominated by 'selling' talk was pretty depressing. Hopefully they win enough in June to squelch that.
  16. Sweep! This was worth getting little sleep for. In all my years of watching the Brewers I cannot remember them ever sweeping a four game series on the West Coast. It's probably happened, but I bet that it's been years.
  17. I think that the offense can pick up. Every year, it seems like they go through a stretch where the offense is horrendous. Maybe they got it out of the way early this year. Ramirez, Morgan and even Rickie have shown signs of life recently, if one or both goes on a tear, things might start clicking. The next homestand is absolutely huge.
  18. Why talk about selling now? They are 6 games back, and take a look at the schedule for the next three weeks. If the offense picks up and the bullpen doesn't implode, it's not a stretch to think that they can be within 5 games out on June 30. If they have a June swoon, then you talk about selling.
  19. Though I would have never believed it 20 years ago, I've actually become a fan of the Hawk. Maybe it has something to do with the switch to the N.L. or something. As for his outburst, I have no problem with it. A lot of these umps think they are bigger than the game.
  20. No, KRod was not the single biggest reason for the great second half. It was their starting pitching. I'd actually argue that it was the weak schedule. On that note, the next 3 weeks are lining up to be a cake walk for the most part. Hopefully the team is getting hot at the right time. If they play well, they have a pretty solid chance at getting back to .500 by the end of this stretch.
  21. I'm thinking that Austin Rivers may be the type of 'high ceiling' guy that the Bucks should maybe take a flyer on. He wasn't great at Duke last year, but he may develop into a pure scorer. I have a hunch that he might move up the boards ahead of the Bucks though. I just hope that they don't take yet another 'project big'.
  22. Exactly. Hitting a two run homer last night surely doesn't account for 1 WAR, but if he doesn't hit the homer, they most likely don't score. Obviously Fiers deserves a ton of credit too, but if you don't score, you can't win. According BR, Braun is third in the league in runs created and has accounting for roughly 20% of the Brewers team RC. No doubt if you take him from the lineup, you can knock the Brewer average runs per game under 4. For a team that has scored 3 or fewer over half the time, take away their major run producer and they have real problems.
  23. I shudder to think where this team would be without Braun in the lineup. I think that he's easily accounted for at least 4 wins pretty much on his own (including last night).
  24. I've heard a few people talk about Bounce fabric softener sheets as a bee/mosquito repellant as of late. Apparently, bugs hate the smell or something. I'm a tad skeptical but I'm going to give it a try at my next outdoor gathering (apparently you just put one in your pocket). A quick Google search revealed this may have some legs. http://www.good.is/post/rural-myth-proven-bounce-fabric-softener-repels-bugs/ Maybe positioning some in the areas where you have a problem (under the sink, etc.) may help.
  25. Right, but when their team OBP is roughly the same as Rickie Weeks is carrying for 2012- and their team OBP is lower than all N.L. teams (with the pitcher hitting) except for Pittsburgh, there is a major problem. The fact that he just gave Crisp (.422 OPS) a two year/$14 million deal should be grounds for dismissal alone.
