  1. Again, Hart catches that ball and a lot of that bad stuff doesn't happen. That was the key play. I have no idea how he missed it, it ended up hitting the middle of the wall- just a horrible play. I'm still not convinced they would have scored more than a run anyway. It seemed like they were 2 hit when they actually had 9.
  2. We've been hurt badly multiple times in the series on hit balls that were hits, but either could have been outs or should have been outs, besides the errors tonight. You are correct. The funny thing is that during the 'hot stretch', I'd bet that 90 some percent of those balls were outs. Morgan was catching everything hit near center. He started misplaying a few balls toward the end of the season, and I was surprised. Hart was making catches by the wall look routine as well. If you go to the games and watch, Hart usually plays very deep. He shouldn't have had to go more than 15 or 20 feet or so to catch that ball. This is his third costly near miss by a fence this series- it's almost like he's scared to run into the wall or something. Is it possible to go into a 'defensive slump'? I think Hairston, Yuni and Fielder have actually been pretty solid on defense during the playoffs considering all the chances they've been getting. One of the problems here is that the Cardinals were putting nearly everything in play with only 2 strikeouts in a Greinke start. One of the things that kind of neutralized the poor defense this season was the fact that Brewer pitching was racking up K's. Hopefully they got all the errors out of their system's tonight, because as I said, with the dead bats, it didn't really matter.
  3. The Brewers could have made 20 errors tonight and it wouldn't have made a difference. The game was lost when Braun inexplicably missed that hanging meatball by Dotel. The bottom line is that St. Louis was able to put balls in play while Brewer hitters were missing pitches by a foot. The two defensive plays that made me the angriest weren't even called errors. The 'just miss' by Hart (what is the deal with him doing this in the playoffs anyway - remember the one against Philly in '08) and the drop by Weeks. Both those plays should have been made. I'm a fan of Rickie, but he's really starting to infuriate me with his play, and I'm getting tired of hearing the 'ankle' excuse.
  4. I'd rather put Gamel at first and leave Hart in right with the Morgan/Gomez tandem to step in then platooning two mediocre guys. If Gamel falls flat, my guess is a vet 1st baseman can be had. I think you have to give him a chance to sink or swim for at least half a season though. I still think that Ibanez would be decent to have off the bench if you could get him on the cheap. The one thing this team is sorely lacking is a veteran power bat for pitch hitting.
  5. Every fan base has their d-bags, especially on the internet. People talking obscene amounts of smack act like they are players on the team- 'we' this, 'we' that... From what I saw at Miller Park, most of the Card fans were decent. Some were annoying, but generally decent. I'm not the type to travel to an opposing ballpark in full regalia (heck, I don't usually even get fully decked out in Brewers gear), so I don't really understand why someone would want to put themselves up for potential abuse- but hey, whatever floats their boat. It is fun to watch them make the 'walk of shame' after the top of the 8th though.
  6. No. I actually would have been very tempted to run him out there yesterday. A win today wouldn't kill the Cardinals, but it'd go a long way in doing so.
  7. A huge chunk. Major props to Randy. I had to bump this thread that I started from last year when I was ready to dismiss him as Soup 2 after his brutal start. He was pretty much lights out from that point on. Wanted to bump before the game, but feared the reverse jinx.
  8. BA was laying one jinx after another out there for the last few innings. 'They haven't done this since'.... 'Furcal has hit 5 homers vs. Milwaukee', etc.
  9. Will the Yankees pick up Swisher? They will need some cash to keep C.C. He'd be ideal. Another one that I'd think about, though quite old would be Ibanez. Mayberry has put him in a numbers game there.
  10. Bump. Performance of the year for Wolf.
  11. As long as players aren't joking around with the opponent, I'm fine with it.
  12. Though it's unprintable here, this character provided one of my favorite movie quotes of all time. Basically fit my description of the Summerfest celebration to a tee. If I was manager, I would have probably used it after Game 2 with Arizona and after Sunday night as well.
  13. OK, I'll bite 1. Morgan RF 2. Weeks 2B 3. Fielder 1B 4. Braun LF 5. Hairston 3B 6. Betancourt SS 7. Gomez CF 8. Kottaras C 9. Wolf P
  14. Based on my assumption that Hart will play no matter what, here is how I would write the lineup card tonight: 1. Morgan CF 2. Hart RF 3. Fielder 1B 4. Braun LF 5. Hairston 3B 6. Weeks 2B 7. Betancourt SS 8. Kottaras C 9. Wolf P Just a few flip flops, basically with the goal of getting to Lohse early (namely in the first).
  15. Apparently Berkman isn't playing tonight. With the Cardinals luck, Craig will probably have two doubles and a homer.
  16. I'm not stating what I think is the best lineup, I'm going by what RRR will do. No way does he sit Hart tomorrow. I could see him doing the Gomez in center/Morgan to right switch if Hart continues to look clueless in a few at bats, but I'd be stunned if he wasn't in the lineup.
  17. I think that it will be the same as tonight except that Morgan will take Kotsay's spot and the same with Kottaras and Lucroy. I'd be shocked if Hart sits.
  18. I think that the Kotsay thing is a push. On the blooper, my guess is that he was playing extremely deep on wet grass. Both Morgan and Gomez (though they would have probably caught that one) have misplayed balls in center recently. As for the double, I don't think anyone is getting to that. Kotsay's homer and walks evened things out. In hindsight, Gomez probably would have been the better play in center, because Nyjer has looked 'off' both at the plate and in the field as of late. I agree that Hart should have caught that ball, which hung up there for quite a while. The second 'non catch' that he's made in the past two games that's really hurt. Not sure if he's scared of crashing into the wall or what the deal is.
  19. Last time the board erupted due to a Kotsay start, I believe he hit a jack. Hopefully that trend continues.
  20. It works for me. I'd be all for giving her a bigger role. Heck, put her on the pregame show- I'm sure she'd be a lot better than that blonde that they had a few years ago. She's a lot better to look at than 'The Maniac', that's for sure.
  21. I may be missing someone, but Theo's best free agent acquisition remains Papi by far- and that was hardly a big move at the time. He's still living off that nearly 10 years later. Look at all the failures: Drew, Dice K, Cammy, Lackey, etc. and likely Crawford as well. If Theo does go after Prince, while good for his pocketbook it may not bode well for the rest of his career.
  22. I've always thought that John Lackey looked like an enormous tool. His actions over the past few months have cemented that he is one.
  23. Marcum is either missing badly on pitches or leaving everything up in the zone. I'm not going to speculate on why, but he's been doing this for the better part of 6 weeks. Pitchers like him need to have some confidence in their stuff, and he has none right now. I don't want to see him starting Game 6 unless the Brewers can take 2 of 3 in St. Louis. Even then, he had better have a very short leash (as in five batters- not five innings).
  24. I have no problem with Edmonds doing it. He's a Cardinal in my book. That would be like Jenkins tossing out the pitch had the Brewers played the Phillies (he was at the game this weekend with Attanasio, BTW). With Suppan, it's too soon. He actually 'pitched' just as long in Milwaukee as he did in St. Louis. I find the fact that the Brewers have likely cut him a check for doing nothing within the 12 months (not that he did anything before) to be a bit tacky. As for the NLCS thing, are we really at the point where we are celebrating 5 year anniversaries in baseball? Many of those guys are still playing.
