  1. Nice throw but it isn't much further than throwing from 3b to 1b. That's an interesting interpretation of that play.
  2. I'm too young to have seen him play but what is the big deal with him? Unless he was like the best defensive catcher ever, he wasn't better than Lucroy. As a Brewer, no. As a player over his career, it isn't close. Simmons should be a HOFer. This right here. I'm trying to think of a comp for him in the recent past and I'm coming up dry. Very good-hitting switch-hitting catchers who play good defense are tough to come by. Plus he could smoke a pack of heaters every game. Edit: I honestly was thinking Lucroy as a comp and it's not a terrible one. Simmons was better, but only because Luc hasn't finished his career yet. Ted's prime was very very good.
  3. Because Davis is no good. That and it may be a tad early to say we gave him away. I've said many times how badly Gallo scares me. Hope he's not the big piece.
  4. Agree. I'm really hoping for the Indians personally. Their top 6 or 8 prospects are pretty fantastic.
  5. Yeah, that's the one I was referencing. Awesome.
  6. It would take some brass cojones from Stearns to make Aiken the centerpiece. I wouldn't be against it, but it'd be gutsy.
  7. I'm sorry, I obviously missed something, but why is Atlanta involved here? It's great that they are I just don't understand it. Like at all.
  8. Personally if it's Lucroy and Smith, I want one of those outfielders plus sheffield or McKenzie plus Hillman plus another guy. If it's just Lucroy I'd be happy with sheffield and McKenzie and another guy or more likely 2. This is the ultimate sellers market. You don't see catchers of Lucroys caliber on the market while they're controllable very often.
  9. You are forgetting Frazier is a very good CFer and much faster. On the other hand Zimmer is destined for a corner spot and not as much of a basestealer. You can't just compare their offensive numbers when one plays a way more premium position. Zimmer appears to be much faster and more likely to stick in cf from what I've read.
  10. While I like them both quite a bit, but Zimmer is more likely to stick in cf than Frazier. Frazier is younger though. Would be very happy with either along with McKenzie. After that it's gravy.
  11. Agree mostly. Bradley scares me as well. I really want a top flight starting pitcher out of any Lucroy deal though. Gimme Zimmer or gimme death. And one of the top starters.
  12. Agree with everyone here. Tremendous player and, seemingly, man. Some of the throws he's made, particularly to 3rd, in his career are jaw-dropping. That Terrence Long play in particular is incredible. I can't link it from my phone but it's easy to find and awesome.
  13. Spoken like a Fantasy Baseball owner. In real life, it's not the case. Baseball players are real human beings with thoughts, feelings, and opinions. The way to get the best out of them, in this day and age anyway, is not to treat them like chattel if you can help it. Stearns crapping on Zach Davies to get a couple of meaningless plate appearances out of marginal player is not a good use of human resources. If his thoughts, feelings and opinions are so self centered that a 10 day trip to the minors, when he wasn't playing anyway, trumps knowing a fringe major league player gets 10 days closer to a pension and a few days in the big dance then I am not sure I care about his thought feelings and opinions. Both players involved are making the same prorated salary. Service time isn't an issue other than it helps Wilkins get closer to a pension so the Brewers are not doing this for money or service time. They are doing it because it makes sense for the roster over the next 10 days. Boras would have no problem disrespecting anyone else if it helped his client for so much as an hour. So his whining rings hollow. Honestly I doubt Davies will have much of a problem when it is all said and done. No matter the reason, it sucks to get sent down so I understand if his first reaction is "what the hell?" I doubt he'll carry a grudge. If he does so what? After his six years of control are over we can't afford him if he's great and he's replaceable if he isn't. As Scott Boras' other client Prince Fielder showed us, being nice doesn't change that dynamic at all. Exactly. This is the stuff you have to put with with the way the CBA is set up. The good news is that he'll get to be wildly overpaid after 6 years if he makes it that long.
  14. Eh. Marte has 27 steals. He's the better player. Bruce, I agree.
  15. Wait, you're not arguing that Braun is a better outfielder than Marte are you? Because Marte is pretty darn good defensively. And Braun is......not. Marte got snubbed big-time too.
  16. Unbelievable job by the club. Signed darn near everyone. Really impressive.
  17. Sweet. I was a little worried about signing him.
  18. College stats don't directly correlate with pro stats. If they did, Rickie Weeks would have been a multiple MVP winner, which people still thought he would be when he was in the minors. Yes, some high OPS hitters don't pan out, but that's not the discussion here. I'm looking for an OF who didn't have a high OPS who did become an impact player. Can you name one? Please, help me out! http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?P=jacoby-ellsbury http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?P=hunter-pence http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?P=Stephen-Piscotty http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?P=jackie-bradley Not perfect, but some comparables.
  19. This thread delivered. Only on page 8 because I'm on DVR, but my goodness, the scouts we have here. Impressive!
  20. I'm still convinced it's going to be Rutherford, and I'm A-OK with that. Really not going to be disappointed no matter who it is though. If I had to pick, I'd agree with the board, a high upside pitcher like Groome or Pint.
  21. Yeah, I'd have no problem with Ray. Just take BPA is all I ask, whatever the board says. I'll trust this scouting team until I see a reason not to.
  22. Yep. As many pitchers as possible (that we care about) should skip Colorado. Such a dumb place for a AAA team.
  23. That was far and away the best part. "I'm gonna knock you into next week, and then, for good measure, I'm gonna pound you on top of the head with my glove". haahaahaha
