  1. Nice move. Good player to have in the NL. He was actually pretty good with the bat last year in a small sample size.
  2. It was so frustrating listening to Brian talk about Shaw's defense today. It was something like "He doesn't have a lot of range but he makes the play on every ball he gets to." So you're basically just saying he sucks at defense then because he can't get to balls other 3B can? Okay, got it. I personally don't even know why we traded for Shaw. 26 year old average at best player with limited upside? Yay! I thought we were rebuilding. That's not the kind of player you trade for in a rebuild. While I certainly agree, I think it's very possible that that deal started as Thornburg for Dubon and Shaw was a throw-in due to need. Now, I would rather have an A ball pitcher and forget need, but that may be the way it went.
  3. ...what. Cutler was entrusted as the franchise AB, the most important position on the team, cost franchise QB money, and the team gave up multiple high picks to acquire him. Villar is a 2nd baseman in a much more team oriented sport, makes league minimum salary, and the Brewers gave up Cy Sneed for him. But yeah, other than that, they're the same, though I doubt Stearns is going to be fired on the basis of acquiring Villar for Snead. The hatred for Villar is so over the top. Yes, he can be a frustrating player. Yes, he needs to work on the fundamentals of his game. He's also a very good player that missed being the first 20/60 player since Rickey Henderson by 1 HR, and put up a 3 WAR, all at the young age of 25. There is a good reason we offered him a 20M extension. He was 24 on opening day last year. A 24 year old MLB infielder that puts up a 3 WAR and we want to run him out of town for his mental mistakes. Or maybe, I don't know, seeing as how he's really young and talented and started playing at a high level at a young age, and we're a rebuilding club, we could maybe work with him on the things he does need to work on and have some patience with him. My goodness. Its. The. First. Game. I mean, right? Good God. The Villar-related stuff in this thread is flat out embarrassing.
  4. Yeah, there's too much Joey Meyer in Gallo for my taste. I'd keep Guerra and hope for something better. Peralta? Sure.
  5. I don't really have a problem with it either I guess. What else can you do? The guys it really hurts are the ones that didn't cheat. But it's impossible to figure out who those guys were, if there even were any.
  6. Those quotes from Stearns in that article put a huge smile on my face. Guy gets it.
  7. Cheater/cokehead/cheater Guess that's pretty much going to be the norm now though. Plenty of both category in the HOF.
  8. Eh. Don't mind it I guess. Would've preferred to see a young guy in the role, whether it's to keep him there when we get good, or to trade him away for more value. The money is irrelevant, but I would've preferred to sign no one.
  9. Kinda reminds me of prime Devon White, maybe with more power. Lots of strikeouts, elite defense, very good speed.
  10. It was McCutchen and Harrison I missed that. Still incredibly awful.
  11. Dombrowski is an odd dude, so who knows? Obviously jump on it immediately if offered. Edit: Josh Harrison for Puig, DeLeon & Verdugo....
  12. I'm pretty sure I'm in there somewhere. I'll have to look again. I know I was there. Early 10th birthday present from my big brother.
  13. C'mon. He's 21 years old. A lot of 21 year olds do this kind of stupid stuff. Granted he has a much more lucrative career path than most, but he's still 21.
  14. I would've strongly preferred Wood as well. He's going to get substantial guaranteed money though. He is a guy who could be valuable at the deadline given the right circumstances, but I bet he gets 3 years at $6MM per, or more. Don't see the Brewers ponying up that kind of dough.
  15. Please... you need at to throw in a lottery ticket A-ball pitcher to pull that one off. Preferably named after a hat.
  16. Blech. Very disappointing.
  17. I watch a lot of White Sox baseball as my wife is a fan, and if Adam Eaton is listed as a top 25 baserunner that is definitely a metric I will never trust again. He's borderline Villarish. He's also kind of a jerk from many accounts. Not sure how important that is, but it's been reported often. Just not a guy I'd give much up for in spite of his talent.
  18. I will personally be very surprised if Thornburg doesn't blow his elbow out before hitting free agency. Hope I'm wrong.
  19. I know, right? And Dunning is a legit prospect, former 1st Round pick, 6'4 RHP with a 0.925 WHIP and 2.02 ERA in his rookie year of MiLB. Lopez is more of a throw-in. But Giolito & Dunning for Eaton? I'd be happy with Giolito & Dunning for Braun. But watta I know? (armchair GM) Even worse, Lopez is a pretty great prospect too. This deal could be a complete catastrophe for Washington. For Adam Eaton.....
  20. OT, but my goodness, what a list. The stockpile of talent appears to be near or at an all-time high.
  21. Love what I've seen/read about Dubon. I've been waiting for awhile for Thornburg's elbow to blow, so I'm thrilled with this deal.
