  1. ^^You may be right. I just think a guy who pitches 60 innings (albeit very important ones) isn't as valuable as a guy who plays 1,400. Especially when you can just sign Broxton to close (or whomever). Obviously Axford is a lot better than the alternatives, but so is Alonso. Doesn't matter anyway, the Reds wouldn't make the trade I don't think.
  2. Olney later reported that Morrison wasn't part of the discussion. As I said in an earlier post, Miami would've been crazy not to say yes and hang up before Beane changed his mind.
  3. More like Gamel, Peralta, Thornburg, and Fiers.Doubt that gets it done. According to Olney, discussions with the Yankees START with Jesus Montero. And that won't do it. He's extremely valuable.
  4. The right decision IMO.
  5. I would love to get him, but I think it will take way more than that to get him. He's had two almost ace like seasons and is only 25 and is locked up until 2016.Gamel and Green is not close. They asked for Morrison or Stanton according to MLBTR. Which is about right IMO. In fact, if I were the Marlins I would've given them Morrison and hung up before they changed their minds. The Brewers are a bad match in this case. I don't think there's anything we'd give up to be able to get him.
  6. But don't you think we'd be ok between the guys we would get for Hart, Wolf, Marcum and McGehee, and the guys that are close to ready in Gamel, Green, Gindl, Schaefer, Peralta, Fiers and so on? Yeah, maybe, but it'd be a lot easier if you had some "known quantities" in your own system. Like I said, I think it's a decent idea, but the deeper your talent pool, the better that idea becomes IMO. I don't know how much you're getting for those guys either. You might get 2 good prospects for those 4 guys plus some other potential prospects. Hart gets you one, Marcum gets you one, Wolf may get you one, McGehee gets you nothing. It's a thought though for sure. It would be extremely gutsy on Melvin's part to try it.
  7. I would be much more on board with that plan if we had any prospects coming. But we don't for a few years. No sure things anyway. If I were, say, Kansas City, I would definitely subscribe to such a plan.
  8. No, but they recognize value when they see it. Balfour is a hell of a lot more valuable than Casey McGehee.
  9. Not really, due to the fact that teams didn't exactly break down the doors of Miller Park when Prince was on the block last winter. I still think that someone unexpected may jump out of the woodwork and overpay in a big way, but my guess is that everyone is waiting for Pujols to sign. Outside of the Miami PR ticket selling campaign, there hasn't been much news on him, either.I agree and I think it'll be Seattle.
  10. I think you could get Balfour, but it'd take a lot more than that. That package gets you.........well, nothing actually. It might cost more like Thornburg IMO. I wouldn't do that. Oakland needs bats and I think McGehee still has value and so does Kintzler. Balfour is a 33 year old set up guy. No team is going to give up an a top of the line starting pitcher prospect for a non closer reliever in his 30's. Besides Oakland has young pitching. They need offense. I'm not saying Thornburg himself necessarily, just that type of prospect. Borderline top 100 type. Thornburg just so happened to be my choice of example. You could maybe snag him for less, but not what you were suggesting IMO. We disagree on McGehee. I don't think you could get anything at all for him. Whoever took him would have to tender him and pay him an arb #. I doubt anyone besides Doug Melvin (for whatever reason) wants to do that. Here's hoping I'm wrong though.
  11. I think you could get Balfour, but it'd take a lot more than that. That package gets you.........well, nothing actually. It might cost more like Thornburg IMO. I wouldn't do that.
  12. Disagree with "total stud". 860 OPS in his 2nd year of AAA makes him solid but unspectacular. He's closer to Lyle Overbay. I think he'll be a lot better than Lyle Overbay. I know his numbers look pretty pedestrian, but scouts rave about him. We'll see I guess.
  13. Now I'm in the position of hoping for furcal. Which I was really hoping to avoid. If they do sign furcal, I hope they sign Hairston as well for the 50+ games furcal will miss. I'd be ok with furcal and Hairston Plus Hairston can play 3rd vs lefties.
  14. I agree. I'd go 5/100, but that'd be it. And I know that wouldn't get it done, so bye-bye.
  15. Well, it sounds like they'd want Andrew Bailey+ from the A's, so Axford maybe? I'd probably consider that deal. I don't know if the Reds would, but I would.
  16. Dear god I hoe not. I don't think he's that dumb.
  17. ^^ Those are the exact 2 names I had targeted. Seem like Melvin-type moves.
  18. Based on last year, he can want $100M as much as he wants, but he's not getting it. 4/$60M sound about right based solely on 2011.
  19. This is correct. Braun does not stand there and admire is homers. In fact, Prince does it WAY more often. Braun at most pauses a second to watch it fly, then puts his head down and runs. Sometimes he'll start jogging and watch it. I'm not seeing what I want. Since Braun was criticized in his first season or two for being a showboat, I've paid attention to what he does and I cannot think of a time in recent memory when he has jacked a homer and stood there striking a pose.OK...I completely disagree.
  20. No, he doesn't. Granted, I don't watch every game, as I'm not in the local television market, but I at least watch highlights every day. When's the last time he admired one, 2008? I think that was the year of the infamous late inning blast that he watched against St. Louis. In fact, I've noticed that he seems to make a concerted effort to just put his head down and run, probably because he caught flack for some swagger a few years ago.Wow. I think you're seeing what you want to see. He does it all the time.
  21. He's pretty awesome. Only guy on the Cardinals I like.
  22. I don't think it's "bad" necessarily, it just bugs me. You hit the ball far. Good. That's your job. Now run. That's the second part of your job. As I stated, Pujols is just ridiculous. Braun is not in his class, but he does it a lot too.
  23. ^^ I agree. I will say, that I really don't like Braun admiring his home runs either, but at the same time Pujols is in a class by himself. Well, him and Aramis Ramirez anyway. Which is why they are my 2 least favorite players in baseball. I can't stand Morgan either, but I root for him because he's a Brewer.
  24. Good lord! Check out some of the quotes from that article: Mind-boggling. This from the man that manages Albert Pujols-a man who has admired more 380 foot flyouts than most players hit in their careers. Mind-boggling indeed.
  25. Carpenter needs some serious psychological help. The guy is off his rocker. And to anyone who believes that he was yelling at himself, I have a nice shiny bridge for sale.
