  1. Same. It's super fast and so few people use Canal. Shhhhhhh.............
  2. Thank you, BSCR. I've kept thinking of the Randy Myers scenario each time I've caught up on this thread, but I hadn't gotten to typing it yet. THAT is why you don't just puts claims on just about anybody -- because you may actually get stuck with him. It's not like when you sign a guy after he's been released. Rather, you pay every little nickel of his contract. The whole reason the Padres claimed Myers was to block him from going to Atlanta. But Atlanta had no intention of claiming him, and the Blue Jays just let him go to San Diego. The Padres got seriously screwed because they owed him a heinous amount of money ($14M, per Wikipedia) over the remainder of his contract, during which time he played fairly little because of injuries, making the whole thing even worse. If the player's team is just looking to get rid of an ugly contract AND another team is foolish enough to claim that player (think: Vernon Wells, Alphonso Soriano, etc.), the waiving team can just let the guy go & be done with him & be out from under that financial burden. The Myers scenario was a timeless reminder that you don't just claim anybody & everybody because you cannot rescind your claim. I don't have any idea who's saying we should claim everybody. Obviously that would be pretty stupid. The White Sox were very dumb to claim Alex Rios. The Padres were dumb to claim Myers. What do either of those cases have to do with this one though?
  3. This is pretty funny for me. I waited in line for about 15 minutes before a game last year to get my custom made Escobar jersey (retail: $250) and they were out of "e"s. Thank God.
  4. As long as the Braves don't get him I'm not seething. I didn't really mention that in my first post, so I can definitely see (after rereading it) why people are responding the way they are. I agree that there's no way the Brewers would've gotten him, I just worry about him being a Brave.
  5. Whoever said "Claim everyone"? I'll just claim the guys with 170 OPS+s and $1.3M left on their contract. Particularly when my likely first round playoff opponent could use a guy in RF.
  6. Yes no upside, if he's healthy they're not trading him to us. If he say breaks his leg and his out 4 months, they let him go and make us pay him. No upside. I disagree. What is the point of claiming anybody on waivers then? You claim a guy like this mainly to block your competitors up the food chain from getting him. Like you said, if he's healthy, chances are they are not trading him anyway. I'll take my chance that he doesn't 'break his leg' between the time he goes on waivers and September 1st, if he does, I'll collect the draft picks that will come when he's a free agent.I agree. I've seen a couple of explanations, none of which makes any sense to me. I know it's not a big deal because St. Louis would pull him back from us anyway, but as I said in my original post, if we pass and Atlanta claims him and works out a deal, that is a really bad thing for us. And entirely preventable..... Edit: The money thing is crazy, BTW. So, if we could "buy" Lance Berkman for the next 5 weeks + playoffs for $1.3M, some of you wouldn't do that?
  7. So, if that's the thinking, and he winds up on the Braves, that makes Melvin look pretty darn stupid............there's simply no downside to claiming him. I don't get it.
  8. Anyone have any theories? Because I can't think of a single good reason. Nice bench bat and you can get a head start on talking him into being your 1st baseman next year (if you're so inclined, as I am). Edit: I know we probably wouldn't have ended up with him anyway, but still. As a type A, obviously St. Louis pulls him back, but for God's sake, claim him anyway.

  10. I like the title of the video: NETHERLANDS LLWS BAD SPORTSMANSHIP God, people need to pull their panties out of their wad.
  11. I agree. Their starting pitching is very good and their bullpen is absolutely ridiculous. Venters/Kimbrel is way better than K-Rod/Axford by the way. It's not even close. Add in O'Flaherty and, as you said, their bullpen is pretty awesome. Vizcaino is still an unknown, but could be dominant. Should be a great series.
  12. That record is going down IMO........ For the Brewers to finish over 30 games over .500, they would have to finish 20-12. That's almost certainly not going to happen for a number of reasons. Hell, I'd probably guess 16-16 or 17-15 as they cruise to a division title.I know what you're saying but I still disagree. The schedule is a joke.
  13. While I agree about Lee and Gamel, I wouldn't mind Berkman at 1st base on a 2 year deal........that's just me.
  14. That record is going down IMO........
  15. I know it's all pie-in-the-sky stuff, but man, would I be mad if the Brewers signed Reyes. Blech. Anyway, I'd be very happy to get Hairston on a one or two year deal at $2M per. As others have said, he's capable defensively everywhere he plays and can be counted on to be an average hitter. Sounds good to me.
  16. Well what do you know, one of you finally remembered that Hendry made some great moves early in his tenure. We never get to the playoffs in 2003 without the trade for Aramis Ramirez (I believe we gave up Bobby Hill for that.) he also brought in Eric Karros and Randall Simon and I believe he also got Matt Clement. That group solidified an already pretty solid lineup unfortunately for us he also brought in Burn their arms out Baker. Then the next year he brought in Derek Lee which turned out to be a really good move for 07 and 08. Getting Soriano was a good move for the short run but has become a burden. You probably don't remember that we were considered to have one of the best farm crops in the mid 2000's unfortunately almost all of them turned out to be busts or got sent out for som "name" Oh well - you guys enjoy the rest of this year. You've made good moves to put you in good shape to battle Philly for the NL crown - good luck. First off, nice avatar. Secondly, Hendry definitely made some good moves. No question they don't make the playoffs in 2003 without the Aramis move. Question is: What did he really do for the organization? The Cubs won one playoff series and made the playoffs 3 times (I think) with a top 5 payroll. And, what he leaves behind is an unmitigated disaster. Seems to me he did a pretty rotten job.
  17. I hope more likely......whoever signs those two will regret it in 4 years. Unless an AL team signs Prince. That would probably work out. God, I hope Pujols signs for 8 years in our division............
  18. Agree with every word. I'm just glad Hendry signed Soriano to that ridiculous contract. He still has 3 years and $54M left (!). I guess if you ate $30M an AL team might take him on as a DH, but holy God was that a horrible signing. As you said, with a real GM, the Cubs could be a serious problem. Imagine them with Alex Anthopoulos.......
  19. I agree with everything but the Rogers bit. There's no reason to believe Mark Rogers will ever be healthy enough to pitch for the Brewers. Well supposedly he will be at 100% well before Spring Training since he's having the surgery now. Whether he can remain at 100% is another question.I know. Then it'll be something else. He'll never pitch 50 innings for the Brewers IMO. Of course I'm the same guy who said Nelson Cruz would never hit 50 HR in his major league career, so take it for what it's worth. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

  21. Hopefully you have a nice picture of Martin Van Buren too. Hopefully we'll see that one around September 10th or so. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. 60-33 since the near perfecto vs. Garcia in St. Louis. .645 ball, or 105 win pace. Not too shabby.
  23. I can't believe the Brewers are only -195 tonight. I was expecting like -295. If I didn't firmly believe I'd jinx them, I'd be laying some serious money down on them tonight. Anyway, keep it rolling boys!
