  1. You da' man, Toby. I'm sure you've learned a lot about Canadian geography, which might come in useful never, but you did a great job the last two days. Kudos on the superb draft coverage! ~Bill
  2. Kieschnick won't be available for this series, AFAIK, because he went home to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. I think Brady Clark will play.... I'm just getting that whole "I haven't seen Brady play enough lately, so he needs to start" vibe. 13. anyways....I hope Milwaukee wins and Ill try and think before I post in the future...may I have a mulligan? Of course... and I agree, certainly, that even the worst team in baseball can beat the best team. The fact that Sheets is going tonight is good, 'cause hopefully it will mean we win at least one of the three games, but you never know. ~Bill

  16. The Angels have a lot better players than Milwaukee.....but the Brewers have a better team. Wow. Just wow. ~Bill
  17. I gotta say I'm pretty irked about Sarfate pitching on three days rest. What's up with that? Talk about gambling with a valuable young arm... not cool. ~Bill
  18. Sigh -- and no word on whether Phelps is a long-term option as closer, but what do you think Indy management has to say about the Jason Childers trade tonight? The roster moves over the last week or so can't be real appreciated by our affiliates. We've jacked the closers at both Indy and Huntsville, lost one of the better hitters Huntsville had and kept them woefully short of position players, and maybe took away their starting catcher (and when the replacement is Joel Alvarado, it doesn't matter how bad Kade Johnson has been). For once, the High Desert folks have been relatively well taken care of. ~Bill
  19. I'd go with "B", too. I disagree with the overall philosophy of selecting high schooler pitchers in the early rounds, but at the same time I recognize there are risks regardless of your choices and I'm confident that we didn't take any unnecessary or irrational gambles. I would have preferred Jaramillo in the second round, but Salome looks really good and I'm having a hard time figuring out how he dropped so low. If not Jaramillo, then Billy Buckner, who has really impressed me. I also really like Baker in the fourth round... that's one of those low-risk picks of a proven college pitcher that I really like. And as I mentioned on another thread, I love Steve Sollmann in the tenth... that's another case where I can't figure out how he dropped so far. If Rogers is as good as advertised, this looks solid. If not, then some of the lower selections might still make up for it, as I think we got at least three players that were relative "steals" for their round - Baker, Salome, and Sollmann. ~Bill
  20. Down to his team's final strike, Scranton / Wilkes-Barre's Pablo Ozuna crushes a two-run HR off of new Indy closer Travis Phelps -- a no-decision for the brilliant effort of Ben Hendrickson... Any idea if the Phelps-to-closer move is long-term or not? I might have missed it on another Link Report or thread... if so, point me in that direction. If not, I must say that this is an interesting move. Travis has struggled as a starter this year and doesn't fit the typical closer profile (not as much velocity or any overpowering pitches as one would probably like). Still, he could be a useful relief pitcher if he can right the ship a la Matt Kinney. Given his previous success in the big leagues, I hope they give him a lot of opportunities to succeed again... if he doesn't, so be it. But I hope Melvin/Nichols don't give up on him after a rough start to the 2004 campaign that was hampered by shoulder problems. ~Bill
  21. The Lookouts just scored a pair to take the lead. Reggie Rivard is on to pitch with a man on second. EDIT: First pitch double to right-center. 5-3 Lookouts. BTW, Robert Portnoy is out of commission. ~Bill
  22. I didn't get a chance to listen to the pre-game Huntsville show... I was planning on it, but got sidetracked. Anybody listen in? Any news to share? Thanks, ~Bill
  23. As the picture was loading, I thought to myself "Does that say Fightin' Clan?". Then it finished loading, and I read this: Yes, that does say "Fightin Clan". You're frighteningly preemptive like that, Toby. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif He looks a bit like Willis McGahee to me. Anyone else see that? ~Bill
  24. This is really interesting... it looks like our Canadian draft choices won't be able to play until 2005 because we've met our "visa quota" for minor league players already. EDIT: Shoutout to Nikip43 for posting a link to a better version of this article on one of the draft posts. Here's the link: www.theglobeandmail.com/s...ory/Sports Check it out. "U.S. Visa Issue Clouds Picture For Canucks," The Canadian Press (Quoted in the Hamilton Spectator), Byline Shi Davidi, June 5, 2004 ~Bill
  25. Nice job today, Toby... you 'da man. ~Bill
