I don't know much about Nowak, but a quick peek at his stats and they were ok but not spectacular for a 25 year old on AA. I do think they Rays have multiple blocked players that we could use. Problem is they'd probably want arms in return. Zobrist, Brignac and Aybar all play multiple positions and have a lefty stick. I like Zobrist, he can play anywhere in the IF, LF, RF, has an .429 career OBP in the minors (5 seasons) and is likely the easiest to acquire.
I don't think Weeks is a big enough upgrade over Getz to make them give up Floyd or Danks, and I don't think Hall has much value in a trade when considering contract vs. production.
I listened to the SF broadcast on XM yesterday, they were very complimentary of the Brewers speed/power combo. I can't even count how many times they mentioned it. I have to listen to the other teams broadcast crew a lot on XM while I'm working and it's sometimes nice to hear an outside perspective. Let's get one in the left column boys, I like our chances. Yo on the mound and facing a lefty. Personally I love the late starts. I can get everything done I need to get done and have no distractions. I'm a night owl anyhow and rarely got to bed before 1 am. Same here, I'm a night owl so I'll probably be up after the game ends anyways.
I have to vent about an online game. I was playing someone really good, I can't remember the record but he had a lot of wins, like 60-20 or something? I was the Crew vs SF and was down 3 going into the 9th. I hit a 2 run homer with Bill Hall and with 2 outs hit an opposite field homer with Brad Nelson to tie it. I lost in extra innings on a walk off fly ball that I had a beat on and would have caught, but the game froze or hiccuped and Braun did some weird studder step. The ball was deep but routine, I made the right jump, and the game got all glitchy on me and he had a guy on 2nd that walked in. booooooo
Unless you are Doug Melvin, Jake Peavy, or Jake Peavy's agent, I don't see how you can be so convinced of that at this point. I agree that Escobar makes more sense for them financially and since they aren't competing the next few seasons. IF we could get Hardy to accept a 3(+) year deal, I'd include Escobar and maybe a few mid level arms. We'd be very competitive the next few years.
Because that might be one of the only things worse than batting him leadoff. They batted him 9th because he grounds out a lot and they wanted to avoid double plays. If my leadoff man gets on, Kendall is the last guy I want at the plate. Keep him 8th. I do want to see if batting Weeks somewhere else takes some pressure off and see if it helps him, but he's still our best option to leadoff.
I bet half the people couldn't even sprint out to centerfield and back 9 times, not even accounting for any plays during the game, any baserunning, any of the HOURS of pregame work. Of course you aren't colliding with people like football. But, there's a reason they call it a grind. I think it's fair to say if you haven't played beyond high school you won't understand or appreciate that concept.
I'd also like to see him used as a starter until he shows he cant be a starter, which I dont see happening. With the lack of top end pitching prospects in our system I'm surprised people aren't more excited about him. Maybe it's just my perception, but it's surprising to me how few people are really high on a 21 year old with the disgusting stuff he has. I think he has the highest potential of anyone in the Brewers system. Maybe I've overrated him because of our lack of an ability to develop pitching?
Me too, and i drive a lot for my job. I get 3-5 stamps a week. Totally agree about having them stapled. I didnt last summer and had like 3 full cards that I couldn't use because of like one missing receipt.
Another thing from operationsports is the section about "sliders". I used a guy named Trinity's sliders and the gameplay is even more realistic as far as how many hits, homeruns, errors, etc. It uses Auto defense, which I was really skeptical about at first but after trying it I loved it. You still control the throw but the CPU fields for you. It makes the errors and range factors go strictly off of the players ratings. The routes they take to the ball and the fielding in general is so smooth and real looking when you use this. It may sound strange and its not for everyone, but if you like it to be more realistic I'd recommend trying it. There were just too many glitchy things on defense for me. The one I hated the most was when you try to dive and your outfielder flops to the ground and it goes to the wall because you made him dive, thinking you had the infielder selected.
Why would we hear rumors about Cameron again? It seems like they had discussions about Cameron and nothing happened so both sides moved on, now they need a 3B, and it's not like they can only use Nady and Swisher. I could definitely see a deal benefiting both teams. Brewers still need LH bats, could use OF depth, and still could use a SP especially with Looper's injury. Yanks obviously need a 3B for now and could still use an everyday CF. Something like Cameron and Hall for Swisher, Cabrera and Kennedy seems to fit those needs for both teams. If either side has to add a nugget to even it out then so be it. That would also shed a lot of salary for the Brewers making it more possible to take on salary at the deadline again.
This is why I like Braun 2nd with Fielder cleaning up. Maybe Hardy 5th. Have our best hitters in the most important spots (2,4,5). Don't care who hits 3rd and 6th between Cameron and Hart. Weeks, Braun, Hart, Fielder, Hardy, Cam, 3rd, Kendall
Is it like basketball where guys dont wear their regular numbers and the numbers are kinda pre-determined by position? Outfielders 10-20? Kinda like the Dream Team, Jordan wearing 9, etc. Or do most guys have normal numbers?
Just wanted to echo this, if you love baseball and warm weather then nothing beats spring training. The one time I went (in 07 too, Hawing) was with my baseball team so I had to sneak the one beer I had. Was a blast but I really want to go back on more of a vacation and not a team trip. Oh yeah, that trip was when my avatar was born, the lovely tatoo of seams in my arm.
