  1. please tell me this entire post was supposed to be in blue.......
  2. JJHardy7 wrote: I know Kohl isn't a perfect owner and has made mistakes, but if what you're saying is right the Bucks won't be in Milwaukee 5 years from now. It's as simple as that and Kohl isn't that stupid since that would essentially drive down the price he can sell the team for if people know he has to sell the team. This is a good point. I still have a hard time seeing Kohl pay the tax for a team with a ceiling that isn't really championship caliber. But, with the economy and his age I suppose it is possible that he isn't willing to watch talented players leave and watch a crap team for 2 years until our crap contracts expire. I don't think it's likely, but I guess it is POSSIBLE that for these reaons he forks over the cash.
  3. Very interesting take Mass..I guess I always thought they'd start him there, but I like this approach of having a little foresight and making a decision that seems the best long term and sticking to it(hopefully). It would stink to have him spend a year or two behind the dish THEN decide it's not gonna work.
  4. I've read a few times how Prince has trimmed down and kinda shrugged it off. Finally saw an actual picture and that video and WOW, he looks tremendous. Really excited to see what he can do this year.
  5. I know it doesn't matter, but I hate the idea of a big burly 1st baseman batting 2nd. Same reason I don't like a 6'6 leadoff. Don't get me wrong, I don't think every slot has to have a player that perfectly fits the mold. But 6'6 leadoffs and burly slugging 1B batting 2nd just rub me wrong. I could get on board with: Weeks Braun Hart Fielder Hardy swap Hardy and Hart if you want.
  6. Apparently old Herbie is willing to pay some luxury tax? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/indifferent.gif
  7. Actually if you move him in the off-season you have to take back salary which will have to be on the books for 2009-2010, so you won't be able to just clear his salary. The whole point in trading him now to get Raef Lafrentz's huge EXPIRING contract, which comes off the books next year. It will suck if we have to trade Jefferson now, especially with how he's been playing, but keeping him almost guarantees losing CV and will make it really tough to even fill out the rest of our roster.
  8. Totally agree, I love the Prince. I think as long as we have enough scoring around him he can become a great defender to cancel out other teams wings. I think Redd is a core part by default though, meaning no one will take his contract. I like Sessions, Luc, CV, Bogut as a core. Hopefully we can shed some salary (ie Portland trade) so we can keep our young guys. Elson has been pretty solid. Kind of out of leftfield too. He got minutes on good SA teams so I assumed he'd be Bogut's primary backup so I was surprised when Gadz got the backup minutes and initial starts when Bogut went down. Maybe trying to squeeze an ounce of value out of that contract? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I saw that list of the worst contracts, I'm kinda surprised he's only 8th
  9. If it meant signing Sheets, I'd do it and happily start the year with Lamb and McGehee until Gamel is up similar to the situation with Braun
  10. i like zimmerman a lot but i think we can get much more for that package and if we cant id rather keep fielder
  11. I pulled for the Rays this year, now I'll be all out rooting for them.
  12. Braun to play for team USA in the World Baseball Classic Nice honor for Braun, not sure how this effects players going into the season or if it does at all?
  13. I dont know how being open to trading Cameron shows a willingness to trade any player. He's 36 and only controlled for one more year and isn't exactly cheap.
  14. Even more of a reason for us to get involved and even more of a reason for him to want us to be involved.
  15. I think the opposite, it confirms were moving on so we need to find a lefty 4th of since we'll be starting 3 righties again
  16. I agree with Rillo and jwill. I get it that he has question marks as a catcher and that if he doesnt stick there he doesnt really have a defensive spot. But, the dude just posted a .974 OPS as a 22 year old in AA...as a catcher.
  17. Bingo. I dont think its hatred for these moves as much as being nervous that so far we've lost much more than we've gained. Even expecting Sheets and CC gone it still kinda stings as it becomes more official and we are left to talk about signings like Jorge Julio and Chris Duffy. There's still time, Im encouraged that DM didnt just take the salary relief for Cameron.
  18. And I agree with that, I still think he's worth a 2 or 3 year deal. I'd rather have Sheets at 2/30 or 3/42-45 than Burnett at 5 years 82(?). I'm surprised the Yankees aren't going harder after Sheets, they can eat the risk and the upside is huge.
  19. Weeks is not even close to getting Cain, more like Fielder. Hardy is not moving to 3rd.
  20. Feels nice to say this, but I think catcher is one of the last spots we need to trade for a young player. It's surprising to me how many people are just writing off Salome, if the Brewers didnt expect him to make it at catcher Im guessing they would trade him this off season after the year he just had.
  21. I think there is a lot to dislike about it if you are Sheets, look at the money Burnett just got. How is Sheets not even worth 2(+) years? I'd absolutely do 2/30 for Sheets. I've said it before and I stand by it, I'd do 3/42, even if he makes 25 starts I'd take that. If he stays healthy its a very nice contract for the Brewers. I think he'd change his mind pretty quick about not wanting to come here if we have the best offer and with the lack of interest and offers(from what we know) I see no reason to not have a decent offer out there. (For all we know Doug did offer something like 2/30, I'm assuming he didnt)
  22. I just dont buy that his feelings are so hurt that he wont even consider us. Its in his best interest to have as many offers on the table as possible. I just dont believe that he told Doug he wasnt interested and Doug said "ok...". There is no way he wouldn't want to at least hear our offer. Its gotta be the Brewers that are choosing not to make an offer or telling him they'd offer him something stupid like 1/10. All signs point towards it being the Brewers choosing not to get in the mix and that upsets me.
  23. Escobar won't ever be an all star? good to know..I think his upside is more like Jose Reyes than Orlando Cabrera. I'd trade him only for good MLB ready pitching and only if we buy out at least a year of arby for Hardy
  24. I've been back and forth but I think I'm firmly in the keep Fielder and trade him next season boat now. If he comes close to 2007 numbers his value will be sky high
  25. I have to agree with sarge about Sheets. If my options are give up prospects for Peavy(which doesnt look realisitc anyways) or sign Sheets to 2 or even 3 years I say Sheets all day. I find it really hard to believe that he's soured on us so much that he made it clear to Melvin he won't sign with us. Even if he just used us as leverage in negotiations with someone else, it has to look kinda fishy that his old team(thats needs pitching) isnt even making him an offer. That leads me to believe we are the ones taking a pass. I heard Olney say he expects Sheets to end up signing for 2/26-28. If thats the case and we don't at least have a bid on the table at or slightly above that then something is wrong. Maybe something is seriously wrong with him and they know it? If not, I don't get why we aren't even making an offer. I dont care if he's upset and has suggested he won't resign. Teams arent exactly knocking his door down right now, if we offer him the best contract he will take it. Sorry for the Sheets rambling in a Peavy thread, but I think it directly relates to trading for Peavy or not.
