  1. Yeah, booing Nelson was pretty bush... On a lighter note, TREVOR TIME!!!
  2. Wow this stinks. Thankfully, it doesn't appear to be season ending but you hate to see the kid miss important time. I really like Cain, I hope he comes back soon. X ellence wrote: I think he tracks flyballs better in CF than RF. I think there is something to that. I've talked about this in other threads, but I think it's way easier to read balls in center than it is on a corner. I'd imagine that is even more so for guys that aren't natural outfielders.
  3. Nice to get him some insurance here, good AB Corey TREVOR TIME!!!
  4. I totally agree. It's not like anyone truly believes it effects the outcome, but it's part of the tradition of the game that makes moments like this special and fun.
  5. Should we try for another lefty from the Tribe? I haven't looked at his contract situation at all, but I saw this article on espn.com. Couldn't read it because I'm not an insider. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/features/rumors?&action=upsell&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fmlb%2ffeatures%2frumors Any thoughts on if we should go for him and what it would cost?
  6. Walks happen, it's a part of the game, it's a part of pitching. I pitched for two different colleges and had one in your face type coach and one laid back coach. Personally, I handled things way better with the laid back one. When you are struggling no one is more frustrated or aware of it than you are. It's not like they can yell at you to throw strikes and not walk guys and then you say oh yeahhhh, thanks for the reminder. You also can't just pound the zone at will, that's called batting practice. And if that happens everyone will be complaining about all the homeruns they're giving up.
  7. Yeah you're right Gorman, I went back and looked and the first one was the only one that was a decent pitch, was a lower half change up but still hittable. The other two were sliders, one was decent and one was a hanger. I agree though that it's a good sign that he's letting the ball travel. Even if its hanging you can top it off if you're out in front too much.
  8. You're not getting Hughes or even Kennedy for Gillespie. I agree, thats why I'd be all over it
  9. Yeah, I don't like his bat in cf let alone left. (Melky) And if we could get Hughes or Kennedy for Gillespie I'd be all over that. We have much more of a need for young SP than we do RH outfielders likely limited to LF. I don't think he's a sexy enough name though for the Yankees to value him enough to give up either of those guys for him.
  10. But he's not just laying off that pitch, he's going with it and crushing it. All 3 of his HRs are on that pitch. That combined with an increased walk rate is whats impressive. He's not just giving up on that pitch while production suffers. He's laying off it when it's unhittable and driving it the other way when it's a good pitchers pitch but still hittable with that approach. (cough, HALL, cough)
  11. Make sense to me TLB. Like I said, he CAN go oppo, but not with the current approach.
  12. Melky is the 4th OF who presumably gets spot starts at the corner. That's enough to make any GM cringe.
  13. Those type of injuries seem to be much more common lately, hey? It obviously helps the Brewers chances if he's out, but it's hard to root against a guy like that. The article says how bad HE feels over missing time and that he was apologizing for getting hurt.
  14. I totally agree 3putt, he beats it to death, but he's absolutely right. When he does the other way pitchers are more likely to feel the need to come inside and thats when you can unload on pitches, but not low and outside sliders. It's so maddening with Hall because he really does have a beautiful stroke to right, when actually uses that approach. It's impossible to always decide what field to hit to, but its all about where you make contact in relation to the plate. It's nearly impossible to hit a low and away pitch hard with the contact point in front of the plate, thats when hes trying to pull and yank it. If you let it get deeper and make contact even with your body you can cover that outside pitch better. I know a lot of people know that, it just drives me crazy that our major league third baseman doesnt, or is just too stubborn to try and still hit homeruns. Sorry if I'm a bit off topic, but I do think it relates. I think a quick scouting report from opposing GMs would make them want no part of Hall with that approach at the plate and salary.
  15. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090414&content_id=4274388&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Left the game early after hurting himself swinging. Has to be devastating to him, after missing so much time and looking so good in his last start.
  16. 3 Jeffress - the Brewers are hard up for pitching prospects, so he needs to be here whether or not he deserves it I agree that he should be third, but I don't think the organization's positional needs should have anything to do with prospect rankings.
  17. I agree with twobrewers. I'd rather trade for young arm we can control for a while. That's why I'd be reluctant to trade for Halladay considering how much we'd have to give up for another rental. I'd love to have Buccholz, I think the fact that he's in AAA has more to do with Boston's ridiculous depth. If he's in just about any other organization I'd bet he's in their rotation right now. Why not start the younger guy with options in the minors and give the veterans the first shot? Becket, Lester, Daiske, Penny, Wakefield, Smoltz(not sure when he's returning).
  18. Definitely low. Not that stealing is ever ok, but especially tailgating, it's the unwritten rule that you don't mess with other people's grills.
  19. Agree to disagree I guess. Kinda blows my mind that anyone can think that. I also can't believe someone from this site is using an ops as evidence after a week either. You really dont see him trying to pull every pitch? Hart is doing exactly what you need to do with that pitch right now, going with it and driving it to right. Hall has that ability when he doesn't dive out on his front foot and try and yank eveything. I strongly believe he will not have a good year with that approach. Nothing at all has shown me he's any different than last year. He is at his best driving the ball to right center and not selling out to try and get out in front of every pitch. He's limiting his plate coverage. He needs to let the ball travel and pound it to right if that's how he's being pitched. I am baffled that anyone with baseball/hitting knowledge would think his approach is sound right now.
  20. Totally agree doc...if you played with or against Casey McGehee(just for example) at that stage you'd think he was unbelievable too.
  21. He definitely was jogging, I think he was assuming they'd attempt the dp and it would come down to Braun being safe or not. Why on earth was Soriano still in the game? I thought Fukudome was a decent defender, and they took him out and left Soriano in? Thanks Lou!!
  22. Nice D from Weeks today(knock on wood) Runs, please! Let's go Prince!
  23. Well early in the season and going to by the eye test Hall is still flailing at outside sliders, and trying to pull them at that. He drives me crazy, he's so good going to right center yet he rarely tries to. He's out in front and pulling off of everything instead of letting the ball travel and going with it to right if need be.
