  1. I would deal LaPorta and players but not Gamel. IMO, he's got more upside and will be the better hitter overall. Same here. I'd be more willing to deal LaPorta, even though I prefer to keep both. I'm in the boat that it will not take either one for a rental. If we're trading for a guy that the team will control beyond this year like a Grienke, Lincecum, Cain, etc. then that's a different story. I don't think a rental, even a stud ace caliber left handed pitcher will net TOP prospects. LaPorta and Gamel are not just our top prospects, they are two of the best hitting prospects in the minors. If that's the asking price for a rental I'll pass. I would be on board with trading some quantity for him though. Just imagining the four picks our way next June is pretty exciting, let alone the thought of that rotation down the stretch this year. Am I the only one that is still tickled by hearing national guys linking us as buyers for the top player available?
  2. Yes. Escobar should get a shot, split time with Counsell at short. Our defense is good there and we take what we can offensively from both. Hall gets most of the starts at second with the Hurricane spotting him, ideally against tougher righties. Branyan/Dillon platoon at 3rd
  3. gwynn should be enough. If Hall goes too I want a bullpen arm included, or at least a mid level prospect or two
  4. ah thanks, I didn't catch that. Whatever it was, Manny sure was pissed while Youkilis looked unsure about what was even happening. Crew2323, I really like the Rays too, I've always liked them actually. Although I'm sure that looks pretty bandwagon of me now.
  5. that incident with manny and youkilis was bizarre, what happened?
  6. congrats, impressive projections as well
  7. I was going to say. Am I missing something? I don't think there is any way either of those guys sign for 12 per
  8. I don't know much about xm and was considering it. Would you recommend it for sports coverage? I drive all day and I hate fm radio

  10. I am in the same situation and was wondering the same thing. Anyone?

  12. Agree 100% I still think Hart is the perfect guy behind Prince. I think the 3-5 should stay how it is as long as they are all on the team. I also don't want a 6'6' leadoff, and I'm only half joking. I see Hart as having more potential as a run producer, with his speed and obp as a bonus. I still can't give up on Rickie being a 400 obp lead off hitter with speed and power. I think he's our best option. I really like Gamel behind him, lefty bat hitting in between Rickie and Braun, he should get every opportunity to swing it in this position. I REALLY hope he can stick at the hot corner. Even though LaPorta has huge power potential, I'd rather have him 6th out of the gates than 5th. I know a lot of people will debunk the protection issue, but if he struggles as a rookie I don't want it to effect Prince too.
  13. I was saying this to my dad at the game sunday. He obviously has a small sample but I think he deserves more ABs at the least. I don't think Kendall is a must start catcher anymore either. He's getting up there in age so just because he has been very reliable in the past doesn't mean it's going to last forever. I'd like to see Rivera start every 5th day instead of every 7-10 days. Maybe even match him up with one of the starters. Could working with one guy and getting on the same page with him minimize his lack of defense? Somewhat?
  14. I think this is fair. My initial reaction was upset over the trade demands. But, after thinking about it I agree that we should try and salvage it first. Give him a few starts a week against righties spelling Hardy, Weeks, or even Branyan. (pared back long quote -1992)
  15. That's not the point I'm making at all. If a corner outfielder misreads a ball or doesn't get an immediate jump, it's much easier to recover and still make the play. Think about how deep a corner guy can play relative to the wall. I might have missed it but I don't think people are saying a CF couldn't adjust to a corner. The difference is not a slice reading skill, it's the fact that you have a much larger margin for error in your initial reaction on a corner. The main reason I consider the slice is because Braun is not a natural OF, and from my experience CF is the easiest to just see the ball and run it down. He does look tentative and slow in his breaks. At least for me, and I'm obviously not alone, it took me longer in left to get a beat on a ball and go get it compared to center. I guess that is why I consider Braun for center. I think Hart is closer to what he will be now as an OF because he has been playing it longer, but with Braun I think there is a lot of room for growth and maybe he is one of the outfielders that feel more comortable reading the ball off the bat in center.
  16. Yesterday at the game I noticed Hall to be one of the first people to congratulate Branyan for his homer. I thought maybe Billy was starting to accept his role, guess not.
  17. Mine is a picture of my elbow after taking a line drive while pitching. It swelled up so fast and looked like there was a tennis ball in there, the picture was hours later after icing took the swelling down, the picture doesn't do it justice but you can still see the nice seam imprint somewhat
  18. Well yeah because anyone athletic enough to play cf can likely make up for poor jumps more often with speed while playing a corner. In center your margin for error on your jump is much smaller because you have to cover so much more ground behind you. I'm just saying what I've experienced, it was way easier for ME to read the ball and get a good jump in center. CF is still the more valued defensive spot because of the extra ground you have to cover in deep center and power alleys as opposed to down the line when it's 330ish and not 400+
  19. I have to agree with Brian on the slice. I played CF and RF in hs and LF and CF in college. I have always preferred to play center because it's just see the ball, go get the ball. In LF you can break to the gap if you don't play the slice right, and it will end up towards the line. The slice is WAY worse on a corner. Obviously you have to have good speed to play center because you have to cover more ground to the wall and both sides. I agree with Kuff about the speed issue. Speed and range are two different things. Speed helps once you are in full stride. But, the most important thing is your very first step, and how soon you read where the ball will be to make that step(your jump). Speed and your jump factor into your range. You need to be awesome at one to play center, or pretty good at both. I think both Braun and Hart have the speed to play center, but neither have great instincts. Tough call. I'd go Braun actually since he still is so new to the outfield I tend to agree that there is more room for improvement with him.
  20. I don't think it's likely to happen, I don't think it will and I said that in my last post. I do think it's possible and worth exploring. It would have to be a perfect match. It's hard to say which teams would value Prince's offense enough to take the chance on giving up impact arms. I just want a better rotation. I want to like our chances more often other than just when Sheets is pitching. I hate having to hope for a good outing from the starter rather than expecting it. Making a trade seems the most likely way to do that. If trading Prince means money to sign Sheets, and a starter from the trade(likely a high potential guy) then I'm still on board.
  21. I guess no trades should ever be made. A team can value his offense and feel they have enough pitching to part with an arm to improve their offense. I thought that was the point of trades. Use a position of strength to try and improve a position of weakness. You are probably right about the core staying through 09. Mainly because Melvin won't have the balls to move Fielder. That doesn't mean a move like that wouldn't improve the team though I also don't get how two years of a player is ever worth as much as three years of the same player.
  22. I would pounce....pounce, if we could get pull of a deal based around Prince and King Felix. from jjfanec's post: Sheets, Yo, Suppan, Pitcher from Prince trade, and Parra is a great rotation. Also it could keep Villy in the pen where he seems to flourish. Bush would be the odd man out but with his inconsistency it would not be a terrible thing. Bingo. You'd have a good 1-3, with two high potential guys at the back. If Parra and the other guy reach potential, or even one of them, that's a championship caliber rotation. I don't care if you lose some some offense from Prince to LaPorta.
  23. I hate the argument that he is being pitched differently. How many star/power/clean up hitters get grooved fastballs? During his amazing year last year people were going right after him and it took 50 bombs for people to adjust? Come on, he's been the most feared hitter in this line-up, he's just flat out sucking right now. He has gotten pitches to hit and missed them.
  24. Are you saying McClung is more than a 4/5 long term? If you are, I disagree. My point is if we need another top starter, you are assuming Sheets comes back, if he does that obviously qualifies as one. But, if we go into next year with Gallardo, Suppan, Parra, Bush, CV/McClung we will not make the play-offs. I think Parra has a lot of POTENTIAL, but right now he is no more than a back of the rotation guy, and even next year I'd feel more comfortable with him as a 4 than a 3. Suppan should not be any more than a 3, obviously the Gallaro injury forces him up, but if Sheets leaves were back in the same boat. Bush should be a 5 if that, same with McClung.
