  1. And the chances the same thing happens to Torres and Drake are equal or better than the chances the likes of Wang, Cravy, and Blazek being any better.
  2. What happens when the SP doesn't pitch well and you lose 8-1? Now you wasted your late inning relievers in a blow-out. Plus, the late inning guys can only pitch so many times in a week. So for the other games you're relying on the worst pitchers on the roster to start games. Not really. Like I said, you're using your pitchers the same way you were before just changing which innings they're pitching. And when you're starter gets blown up starting a game it ruins your bullpen too. No matter how you plan to use your pitchers it's not going to work every time and adjustments are going to be made. What do you mean not really? Your late inning guys are only used when you're winning to maximize their outings. If you START a game with them there will be lots of games where they were wasted because they lose those games. You only get 3-4 appearances or per week for a reliever, wouldn't you want Knebel, Barnes, etc. to be used in game they win? If you start them, you are wasting them in many games.
  3. Nope, not a reliable method. I fully understand that, but that's what I'm going on. No other information out there is any more reliable than that anyhow. If he's 20 or 24, he's still 18-19 in the world of NBA basketball. He hasn't played against big time competition until last season and has just started building an NBA body.

  5. Never questioned that it has been done, and probably is still being done in various sports. My point is, just looking at his face he looks realllly young. We'll probably never know, but that's why I believe his age. Besides, I really don't care either. Won't be a problem until he's like 34...or is that 38?
  6. Hear what you're saying, but it's no secret Hader has struggled with command. Maybe that's an indictment of the Brewers' development folks, maybe not. If it was that easy, all the top pitchers would have command of all pitches and be generally awesome. I don't see it as a fail for Hader to become a late inning reliever. The game has changed, and it's why contenders are over-paying for these type of guys at the deadline. Next time they're a 90 win team, the bullpen is going to have to a big part of that. Odds are really slim they will have a couple aces at the top of the rotation, so they'll need to do it by having 5 solid starters and an outstanding bullpen. Knebel, Barnes, Hader would be a great start in that direction.
  7. Even if they want Hader as a starter, nothing says they want/need to stretch him out as a starter NEXT season. Maybe he stays in the pen for 2-4 years, and at some point they try him out as a starter. Just guessing, but I think that time will come if/when he can command all his pitches.
  8. All those names you mentioned are possible. Some names not mentioned: Shaw, possibly Braun or Santana, Cordell, Coulter. Think about it, not long ago Gatewood was struggling and wasn't even a 1B. I wasn't too confident about Hart moving to 1B, but he played really well there. Not pretending all these guys will turn out, but there's a lot to choose from here. After OF, more depth at 1B position than any other position.
  9. The system is vastly different than it was a few years ago. Multiple guys at every level from MLB down to A ball already are, or could play 1B.
  10. That's true, but it doesn't diminish the fact that in 2015 and 2016, Vogt was a bonafide first string major league catcher who put up decent numbers (combined WAR of 5.7) playing 136 and 137 games respectively. He got off to a slow start in 2017 and as a 32 year old on a team that doesn't draw, they were likely going to non-tender him after this year anyway and decided to save some money this year by waiving him with a younger cheaper lefty hitting catcher in Bruce Maxwell ready to take his spot. When Bandy stopped hitting completely and Susac not hitting at AAA, the Brewers needed a guy to fill in. He's a perfect fit. Agree with your post, but remains to be seen if he's a perfect fit. But for minimal investment, it's worth finding out.
  11. At the end of last season, I was hoping they traded Braun and moved Santana to 1B. Neither happened, so now we have below average defense at every OF position. With all the athletic OFs in the system, this will eventually correct itself- just looks like it will take longer than anticipated. This really should be a strength for the Brewers when they're a 90+ win type of team, so it does hurt to watch.
  12. Of all positions, was never worried about 1B depth. Virtually any OF, 3B, C in the system could be moved to 1B.
  13. What happened to the "Brewers never score with 2 outs" crowd?!?!
  14. Look at his face, he actually looks more like an 18 yr old than 25.
  15. The Association is littered with guys who can shoot and nothing else. If he can consistently hit NBA 3s, he will have a job somewhere.
  16. Somehow my thread about Arcia's defense has morphed into a discussion about Cordell taking his place. (Yes, I also realize it's a matter of time before "someone" mentions Braun moving back to 3B)
  17. That's how I see it. Moose will be gone, and he's not much of an enforcer but at least he's big-bodied. Then you have Maker, Henson, etc. Centers are coming back in style in the NBA, really need a true big man defensively.
  18. Always interesting to watch the draft. Early on, mostly guys with potential. Then in the 2nd round you see the players who have had really good college careers. I still don't like the Wilson pick at all, love the Brown pick. Really wish they could have found a way to trade-up or Monk, but maybe it just wasn't possible. Plan B would be to trade down, but guessing nobody was clamoring to get up to the Bucks' spot. Good news is, since my expectations are so low for Wilson that if he can be a contributor in any way I will take it.
  19. 10/5 from Wilson as a Junior?? Not exactly awe-inspiring. Monk was worth trading up, especially after he fell a few more spots than he should have.
  20. Not necessarily. There comes a point when a player needs to face MLB pitchers every night to advance as a hitter. Very possibly, they could have waited a year to bring him up and he would have an adjustment period. They're staggering the arrival time so they don't have 4 or 5 guys all that that stage at once.
  21. Wow Peralta to Biloxi is pretty aggressive, no?
  22. Yea, it's a good problem to have when everyone is hitting. Same issue getting Aguilar ABs, now that Thames (thankfully) won't be playing any LF moving forward. CC will definitely mix in starts for everyone, but one or two of these guys will definitely see less ABs. Of course, a trade could change all that.
  23. Did I hear correctly that Braun and Villar are going to be playing with the T-Rats in Appleton this weekend? Yes they are!
  24. We should probably change the title because I think there are going to be a whole bunch of plays from Arcia that look like some of the best we have seen. Bat keeps getting better too, now just a tick under .700 OPS. Mayae I should just chance the name of the thread to "All Things Orlando Arcia"
  25. Yea, I also get why people don't think the changes are happening fast enough. But it does bug me when they say noting is being done. There's been plenty of changes, and that will continue. Torres and Barnes have definitely been over-used. So now that Hader is up we will see him take some of that load off. Drake has had some great outings, I think it's just a case of not giving up on him too soon. Peralta has had plenty of success, as recently as late last season. So I get why they want to give him plenty of leash to figure it out. I would guess one/both will be gone by the AS break if they continue to be inconsistent/horrible.
