  1. Peralta will not be traded for a bullpen arm, unless it's some sort of throw-in. A bullpen arm will never be the focus of a trade, at least not until they are competing for a WS title in August down the road.
  2. Trucking companies can have hiring standards whereby they have a minimum age. Some use 21, others 23, etc. There are other examples. Employers, generally speaking, can dictate minimum age requirements. So, basketball is treated like any other job.
  3. If Victor Roache isn't careful, he could slug his way back to prospect status again. Even if he does, of course, he will be buried on the depth chart.
  4. I don't think anyone believes Garza has more value than Peralta. And I don't think it has to be either/or. Wouldn't bother me a bit if they traded Peralta today if they got a good return, and cut Garza. I would be 100% fine with that.
  5. well to be fair he could be in his early 20's.... that story has gone away since draft day, but i still think it may not be out of question that he is older that he claims. He sure has a baby face. So I guess I believe him, but yea we will never know for sure.
  6. One and done guys don't have to go to college. Like Brandon Jennings, they can go overseas. They can go to some community college, or even go to one of the sports academies. But they choose to go to a big program to showcase their skills, and improve their draft pick selection. So they are using the platform of KY, Kansas, UCLA, Duke, etc. for their own benefit, it is not a one-way street where the NCAA is taking advantage of them. The guys who do stay and graduate get far more than a scholarship (which is valuable enough.) If they don't make it to the NBA, they still have far more opportunities upon graduation through the boosters, and just name recognition compared to average joe student. Again, both parties benefit. NBA should either eliminate the 1 yr rule, or extend it to 3 years. I go back and forth which I would prefer. And then increase the stipend, I have no problem with that.
  7. Here's how I look at it. You will never get a top pitching prospect at the AA/AAA level for Peralta. Not now, not at the trade deadline, not next off-season. I don't see his value changing drastically if he pitches pretty well this season, but it is possible he reverts to being pretty bad. So I take a good deal for him now if you can. Like Monty said, I could see a few guys with high upside from the rookie leagues, DSL, etc. Or, maybe a really good pitching prospect at the A level with a "lottery" guy thrown in. Stearns has shown at times he will hold out for a higher return (Lucroy, Braun.) But I don't think you can do that in every situation, since there's always the injury risk and performance risk. I'm guessing he would deal Peralta or Nelson for a "good enough" deal where it still makes sense doing, and Guerra is a guy he thinks is worth the risk of waiting.
  8. Maker is more advanced in some ways compared to Giannis as a rookie, but to say he's just as athletic....no. Just no.
  9. You have Guerra twice, otherwise I agree. (At least you didn't have Garza twice ; )
  10. It doesn't matter, they're the two big basketball programs in the state. Add Milwaukee vs rest of the state, public vs private, and walla...rivalry. It's not the degree those other rivalries are that I mentioned. Plenty of people like and floow both, but it's definitely a real rivalry.
  11. Sure we do. Peralta and Nelson are 3,4. Then they can cut Garza and Anderson is #5 or keep Garza and Anderson is in BP. (Barring any trades or injuries, of course)
  12. Yes, definately. It primarily stems from recruiting. If you don't follow that part of college basketball I could see how you wouldn't be aware of it. Yea, it's an in-state rivalry. Simple as that. Duke/NC, Alabama/Auburn, SC/Clemson, etc.
  13. They'll sign a FA (camp cut), sign a rookie FA, maybe a pick late in the draft. Michael won't even make the team for sure, so this is a work in progress. I'm ok with that, as I'm more bullish on Montgomery and Rip than most. RB is the easiest position to find at least avg talent, so I'm not that worried. They will find a couple capable backs, and who knows maybe even strike lightning and find a really good one.
  14. Kind of a fail on FSWI. Pretty sure it is someone's job to go over this stuff and they can't even tell him the correct pronunciation of a Brewers player. I still don't get it tough. Why pronounce it like Pena? Are we all missing something here? Brian Anderson is a professional, and rarely pronounces names incorrectly. I noticed he even pronounced Arcia correctly last year. But it's ST, and I would guess they haven't spent the time on this yet, especially with Anderson doing NCAA games and who knows what else. I would bet he'll have it right when we get to the reg season. Now Augie... that's another story. My favorite (and there are many) last year was "Kurt Noogenhouse"
  15. Yea, I don't see it so much as a best/medium/worst case. As always, Stearns has a value in mind what Guerra is worth. If he is offered that today, he takes it. It's not like he's looking at it as how much risk he's taking, trying to get more later, etc. He did the same thing with Braun, Lucroy, and everyone else. Sometimes you get the offer that's acceptable, sometimes not. But the word gets out you're not playing around. Guessing Stearns has the reputation already he's someone you can deal with, but you're not going to pull the wool over his eyes.
  16. the draft is so loaded with RB's I would be shocked if they didn't take one in round 2 or 3 that they had a higher grade on. I would be shocked if they did. They never take a RB high, with the exception of Lacy. That goes all the way back to Wolf. Not saying I agree with that or not, just saying I doubt they go RB early. There will still be camp casualties too, I think they go the quantity over quality route. (Almost like RB is a position on defense ; )
  17. Barnes in grave danger of not making the 25, really rough spring. He will get his chance this year, but may not be there to start the season.
  18. What don't you understand? Not trying to convince you to like something you don't like, just curious what there is to understand?
  19. Stompin your feet, clapping your hands. You're part of the team sitting in the stands.
  20. Yea, they have enough talent. Time has come to stop acquiring it. Also, what do you expect players to do if Guerra is traded? You really think they don't understand the position the Brewers are in? I mean, they know it's a rebuilding year. Anything can happen, but they're realistic- and also understand above all it is a business. You don't avoid making a trade that benefits the team long term because you're afraid some of your players may be shocked to learn they're not a WS contender.
  21. Probably. But that's going to happen almost no matter what they do. Just not enough money and luck to patch all the holes they have in one off-season. Here's one way they can be better. They were pretty darn good against the run last year, hopefully that continues. To combat the passing game, they are not going to have the horses to compete in the backfield. Can they be better this year? Sure. But no matter what, that is just not going to be a strong unit. The best way they can combat that is improving the pass rush, and I think that is realistic. They need to get more creative with blitzes, and more importantly work a lot more on execution. You can always tell who's coming, and from where.
  22. And who do they play tomorrow? That's right, the Hawks. So this team looked like they were out of the playoffs less than a month ago, now they could be tied for the 5th see after tomorrow. FIFTH. This has been a great experience, because they've basically been in playoff mode for a while now. The intensity is there on defense, most of the time. Passing more on offense. For this team, it's almost that simple.
  23. Yes, we used Smith Bros. as a loophole for the "no candy in school" rule.
  24. Yea, I'm not as engaged as I used to be. And would never pretend to know the exact top or bottom, even if I did follow the markets very closely. But even a passive investor could see this huge run-up and make an educated guess there will be a pull-back. I never go "all in" or "all out" But I have found this has worked for me over many years. I've done that with individual stocks as well, although these days I only have a few left and I pretty much do just leave those alone since they are not in a tax-advantaged plan.
