  1. Sorry, autocorrect on my phone seems to have morphed Susac and Supan into some sort of hybrid non-hitting overpaid aging pitcher.
  2. Susan has option(s) correct? That may be the tie breaker, if there is one. FWIW, Susan doesn't look confident at the plate. Like ST stats, that may not mean much either just something I noticed. I don't see any of the 3 being the catCher of the future, so may as well roll with Bandy and Pina to start with. Just hold down the fort until Houle is ready.
  3. Right now, I think Aguilar should be on the 25 when they break from ST. They have enough options as backups in the OF, and the IF for that matter. A product of having versatile guys like Perez and Villar. I just like the thump of Aguilar's bat as a PH late in games, and can spell Thames at 1B. Also, nice insurance if Thames struggles. The alternative, I guess, would be Rivera or some other UT player. I think you get more out of Aguilar, and could also be flipped. (Judging by the inability to flip Carter, this is a very secondary reason but still possible.)
  4. Or you could just get a Gold ETF that tracks the price of gold.
  5. Exactly. UW may very well be worthy of an 8 seed, but then all the other Big 10 teams should fall in line accordingly. Heck, even Purdue was really only slightly better than Wisc and they get a 4? You're 2nd in regular season, and 2nd in the Tourney yet almost seeded as 7th best team in the conf? Yea that makes sense.
  6. It's not just ST. He didn't hit well in AAA last year, didn't hit well when he got called up, didn't hit well in short season ball, and now ST. He was brought up too soon, and I don't think starting him in AAA is a crazy idea. Do I think that will happen though? No.
  7. We start, as always, with the girls. And every year, reminded how ridiculous it is Wisc still does not seed teams- even in the Semi-final round. So tonight in Div 1, we have the two powerhouses. Appleton North vs Milwaukee King- both undefeated. Should be a good one!
  8. Exactly, that's all I'm saying. You hear "SS won't be around" all the time, and it just isn't true. It will be tinkered with as we've discussed, but it's not going away. And don't even get me started about the trust fund. That doesn't even exist, except in name. Just another slush fund they've been borrowing from forever, remember Al Gore talking about the "lock box" like 30 years ago. The four options for SS were mentioned above, but don't forget about the 5th option they've been doing forever. Just print more money and run up more debt.
  9. Don Barclay is back. Hello Super Bowl!!
  10. Depends what we mean by "Mid Major." That term gets thrown around a lot, yet there's a huge difference between the Atlantic 10 and the Horizon League. Missouri Valley, MAC, a couple others could probably send two teams in certain years. But most of these conferences that are called "Mid Majors" are actually "Low Minor" conferences. And it's not entertaining to have a bunch more of those crappy teams in the Tourney. I would say this though. When you get to the last couple teams in/out, I would take another team from some lower level conf than the 6th or 7th team in one of the big 6 conferences. Every year is different, but usually there's usually an Illinois State type of team that I would rather see get in.
  11. The way the contract is structured, it's basically a 3 year deal if the Packers want out after that.
  12. No way will Perry count $12MM on the cap this year, I would guess half of that. Remember, the signing bonus is pro-rated over the whole length of the contract. Edit: As it turns out $5MM against cap this yr
  13. Depends how Perry and Lang (if they sign him) are structured. Usually they back load the contracts. But next move is probably signing Peppers to a 10 year contract.
  14. Classic Packers. Nick Perry is a good football player, but not a difference maker. Next up, secondary problems will be solved 100% by bringing House back.
  15. He is, but that's not the reason why. They never have televised many of the ST games. Usually it's every Saturday and some games during the week sprinkled in here and there. Yea, Augie with an expanded ST roster full of names he's never heard of...not a good combo. I can hear it now "Lucas EarKeg"
  16. I would agree with that, except PnR doesn't seem to be a big part of the Bucks offense. We may have discussed this before, but I think Middleton/Giannis could do a lot of damage in the PnR. I think Brogdon could even do more of that. But Giannis is always out on the perimeter somewhere, where nobody respects him. He should be a at elbows and the nail a lot more often to start their offense. Anyhow, my vote is a rim protector who can at least function in the offense. Whiteside.
  17. I have been hearing "Social Security" will be gone all my life. That isn't going to happen. Look at the outrage whenever they even hint at changing anything. They can raise the age, they can tinker with means testing, but there will be SS. As far as 20 somethings saving more than any previous generation, I don't believe that. Years ago, before 401k, it was commonplace for employers to offer pensions, and most people had full time jobs. The 20 something generation is underemployed, and they have to voluntarily sign up for 401k. So I can't believe that combination would equal saving more than a generation who all had pensions. You never know how true these studies are, and then they always change. For example, just heard earlier this week that 50% of all Americans couldn't write a check for $500 if they had to.
  18. Three very winnable home games then a tough 6 game WC roadie, really need to win these 3 at home to stay close. I think Terrence Jones can really help.
  19. I think that's the best solution right there. In the real world, I think Santana will either need to move to 1B or be traded. Just no room with Braun, Broxton, Brinson, Phillips, and Ray. All of whom (other than Braun) are superior defenders.
  20. As a contrarian when it comes to most things, I ignore the First Commandment of investing- don't jump in and out of the market. I don't claim to hit the very top and very bottom of every time, or any time. But I do start re-allocating my funds in 401k/ Roth IRA from stock funds to bond fund when I see signs we may be reaching a bubble or peak. (Now is one of those times, for example.) That doesn't mean I go 0% in the market. It just means I start backing off in steps. Then, in times where it couldn't look more bleak, I begin buying again in steps. Have I missed out at the very top at times not having 100% or close to that in equities? Sure. But I've figured I have at least broken even doing it this way, and a couple times came out well ahead. Not saying it's right or wrong, just what I've been doing for about 20 years now. Finally, I only have a handful of individual stocks left. I have learned through the years I can't compete with market makers. I can do all the research in the world, but I don't know what the institutions know. So I'll trade a few stocks here and there, but when I buy stock now it's almost all S&P 500 ETF. Great discussion here though, always curious what others really do.
  21. First, I cringe at the term "mid major" conference. Horizon League is nowhere near a major conference, and certainly not a MID major. But semantics aside, I'm not saying the Horizon League shouldn't have a team in the field. But the regular conference season gives each and every team a chance to compete for the title, and the bid. What is the incentive to compete in the conf season (see UWM) just wait until the tourney and bring your best then.
  22. I have no dog in the fight. Good for UWM if they can do it, they would get in legitimately by the rules as they apply. But I would say there's juuuuust a bit of difference between #79 and #265? If UWM gets in, they and the conf will be a laughing stock. And I don't think that's in the best interest of the Horizon League, but if they think so, then so be it. Guess what I'm saying is I'm not questioning whether UWM "deserves" to be in the Big Dance. Mute point, because if they win tonight they will be. I just don't think conference tourneys are a good idea for these 1 bid conferences.
  23. Showing why low level conferences like this shouldn't have conf tourneys. You would think they would want to send their best team to the tourney to represent the conference. I mean good for UWM if they can pull this off, but ultimate example of why these tourneys are a bad idea.
  24. No, I don't think anyone has forgotten that. In fact, that's why a lot of us who are concerned about his bat have some hope. Last season can't just be ignored. I mean, when .691 in Sept. is mentioned as a big improvement, that is telling. His ceiling is never going to be .850+ He will never walk enough and hit enough HRs to get there. But that's ok. If he can develop into an elite SS defensively, and hit .750 I will take that all day long. And yes, I do think he CAN get there, it's just that I'm not convinced yet.
