  1. Splitting the bill when it's not equal bothers me! Some background. We go out with two other couples maybe once or twice a year. First time we went out, they ordered a couple bottles of expensive wine. (We are not wine drinkers and said so.) Bill came, and the other couples aid "let's just split it." No mention of "Well, Mr. and Mrs. FV Brewerfan didn't have any wine, they shouldn't put in as much." Not one to cause a scene, I just put in 1/3 of the bill (plus tip of course.) This happened a couple more times. I know, shame on me, I knew it was coming. So this past weekend I told the waitress separate checks. Response from the others was "No it would be just easier to split it." But I didn't back down, no.....separate checks please. Then a comment was made hinting that I was cheap. (Side note, I'm really not. I split checks all the time even if what I ordered was a few dollars less or something.) I felt like I was forced to call them out, so I said you guys know we don't drink wine. I'm glad you enjoy it, but I'm not paying for your wine. Nicely, of course, but words to that effect. Bottom line, now there's this weird dynamic hanging out there between us and these friends that are otherwise really good people. And it's not that they're trying to pull one over on us, it just didn't ever occur to them that it isn't right. Awkward situations bug me!
  2. Scouts are wrong a lot, so that part doesn't bother me. It does bother me he wasn't more dominant in HS. But I'm fine if he develops into a rotational rim protector type of player. Only problem with that is you're going to pay him too much money as a lottery pick to get no production for a couple years (at least) and then get a part time player. I think I've just kept typing until I did a 180 and now see I don't like the pick very much. ; )
  3. Philips with the golden sombrero. Just when it looks like he's coming around he has a game like this. His K rate continues to be very disturbing. When it's this bad at the AA level, imagine facing MLB pitching.
  4. Yea, Noah bugs me. I would think that's true for almost everyone. But he could provide defense and rebounding and a little scoring, so I could get over it. He would be a fit with what they're doing, but nowhere near a max deal. That's crazy talk. But they would need to move Monroe first even if they did find a way to sign Noah to a reasonable deal. I haven't weighed in on the draft yet. Maker sure sounds like a reach, but as others have said not much to choose form at 10 anyhow, so may as well take a chance on an athletic 7'1" guy. If he can even be a Larry Sander-light, that would be fine. Also, why are people questioning Maker's age when Brogdon is the one who looks like he's 47.
  5. You're assuming Phillips is the long-term solution in CF, which is a pretty big assumption at this point. As for Ray, all that matters is whether he can hit. He may or may not develop defensively into an avg or above avg CF, nobody knows that. But even if he doesn't, if he's a legit MLB hitter, I don't care where he plays.
  6. Also keep in mind not all of those on the list will be catchers long-term, or maybe even short-term. Similar to drafting SS (who can move to 2B/3B or even OF.) You're hedging your bet a bit when your draft catchers. If they can stick behind the plate they're more valuable, but can always be over to 1B or corner OF. In the case of SS and C, the reverse is almost never true. You can't draft an OF, then try to convert him into a SS or C. I think that's why you see so many catchers drafted, especially this year. It's not to replace Lucroy, as all these guys are years away from sniffing MLB.
  7. I don't know, it's still about numbers in MiLB. Impact players rarely struggle coming up through the various levels. Braun, Fielder, Yo, Sheets, Weeks, etc. marched through without much of a hiccup. Sure, a guy can struggle a bit and end up being a really good MLB player, but those are exceptions. This season has been incredibly disappointing to me. Nobody has broken out, and virtually every top prospect is struggling. But, there's still a lot of games to be played.
  8. What is the significance of having Williams and Kirby on the AZ 60 day DL? I'm guessing it means nothing, just curious why they're under AZ DL instead of BC or some other team. And why they wouldn't just be on the DL for the entire season for that matter.
  9. But they have a new home in Kissimee next year right?
  10. Exactly, you should! Well ,called up yesterday but who's counting?!? ; ) As for Cooper, the difference between him and Rogers is power. Rogers carried a similar OBP as Cooper, but had stretches with big power. I can't imagine trading him for anything, but you never know. If it's between keeping Cooper or Middlebrooks though, yea I would keep Cooper.
  11. Orf is already at AAA. Cooper can get promoted to AAA, that's fine, but he's just as much filler as Middlebrooks or Wilkins. Devin Williams will be in BC, he's just getting back up to speed from his injury. Coulter...I would consider actually moving him down to Appleton. Then bring him up to A+ next season since they won't be playing in BC then. Phillips, I don't know. I could go either way, I guess I'll leave it up to the player development folks.
  12. Nobody worthy of promoting. Not like there will be a wave of them, guys deserving of it have already been promoted.
  13. yep. While I would be really intrigued by a top hitting prospect being added (I think we lack an elite power type prospect in the minors as well as top flight pitchers), I would love to add a great arm. They are riskier, but the need is there. They need everything. Arcia is a great prospect, but not a big bat- at least not yet. Phillips is the only other bat on the horizon the next couple of years, and he's striking out 1/3 of his abs. This team is nowhere close to getting choosy about what position is needed, even pitching. Yes, they need SP, no secret there. But they need virtually everything else too.
  14. Demuth back on the radar. Starting to hit, and with some power. Still not real high on him, but at least he's showing there's a chance he can develop.
  15. Pirates model definitely closer to reality than Cardinals model. But Mark A is willing to take on more salary than the Pirates when the time is right.
  16. I think the coach needs to be involved with the draft and player acquisitions it is the coach who is coaching the team so they do need to have some input on the players being acquired. Jason Kidd has had a little bit too much of an influence on who they are targeting though. I would agree with Kidd needing less of an input but he does need to be involved on who is being added to the team. Ultimately though the GM needs to be the one making the final decision on who the team acquires. Kidd's involvement in building the roster should be limited to letting front office know what type of players he wants/needs. For example, we need a 3 and D guy off the bench. We need a defense first Center who can run the floor. That sort of thing. He knows best what he needs from players to build the team, but let the talent evaluators make the calls on who those players are.
  17. I predict Diplan will be biggest move up in our next Top 25
  18. 3 more ks for Maverick and Clark tonight.
  19. Let's remember any move made with Peralta and Garza are made for the good of team. Sending Peralta to AAA may or may not help him turn things around, but that's secondary. Peralta has not been a MLB calibre starter, and hasn't been for a long time. Garza is back, like it or not, and needs a spot. Peralta was beyond the obvious choice to get sent down. Garza in the pen? Same story, that doesn't help the team, and it probably does nothing to help Garza either.
  20. Thing is, there's usually a team or two ready to make those "unreasonable" trades at the deadline. Emotion takes over. I've said it before, but a lot of it has to do with how hot Braun, Lucroy, or anyone else is leading up to the deadline. It "shouldn't" matter, as they both have a long body of work. But again, this is about emotion. The chance to put a big bat in your line-up, usually someone will overpay for that.
  21. I still think the Indians should make a deal. Attendance is atrocious. They are finally in a pennant chase, and they need to send a message to their fan base that they're going for it this year. Plus, they get Lucroy for next year as well. They could give up a couple top prospects and still have plenty in their pipeline. Not saying they will make a deal, just that they should.
  22. In no way should the Brewers be worried about position when making any trades at the deadline. It's about getting the best possible talent they can, at ANY position. We don't want a talented OF just because we drafted Ray? Let's worry about Ray if/when he ever makes it to MLB. Look at Maverick, seemed he was destined for the Brewers OF by 2017 at the latest. Now he's taken a step back. Won't bother going down memory lane listing all the great prospects who never developed. Good news is, I'm 99% sure Stearns understands this perfectly well, and will be looking for the best talent he can get.
  23. Lopez, Peralta, and Jungmann qualify as "nice depth?"
  24. Arcia slumping, Phillips really struggling. But Cooper gets his first HR...Cooooop
  25. Let's focus on developing a CF who can hit above Mendoza line before we worry about creating an opening in LF. Really, all the guys who have played CF this year have been bad. Plus we don't know what we have yet with Sunday in RF. Long way off from anyone pushing Braun out of LF.
