  1. Allemond screaming for a promotion. D Williams with his "I'm baaaack" start. Yamamoto making us consider him for Top 25. Collymore making it tough decision to be sent down to Appleton.
  2. With movement! Then drops the hammer for called strike three, not even fair.
  3. I don't remember the big spring but that sounds like Brad Nelson. That's it! 0-21
  4. Who was the cat that had a big spring training a few years ago to win a job, then went 1-56 or something like that?
  5. I'm getting a Villar Jersey for my bday, it's now official.
  6. Scooter with bad lead off 3rd then late break cost a run there.
  7. I don't know, I would consider that a quality start. The stat isn't "great" start. Maybe it's how I look at QS. I look at is as anything above the minimum I would hope for from a start. Giving up only one run in 6 is quality. Would I prefer a couple less hits/walks? Sure.
  8. Peralta is the obvious choice. DL, bullpen, or sent down. He really hasn't been better, just luckier. Lots of line drives right at defenders to bail him out. Still lots of hits given up, and not striking anybody out.
  9. Well, ok. I'm old too, but I realize trying to be more "competitive" this year won't result in a WS. While not guaranteed by any means, chances are much better to build for the next window when hopefully they have multiple years as true contenders.
  10. But that's the thing, they need attendance. They may feel the need to make a big run, and adding a Braun or Lucroy tells the fans they're serious. If it works, they're contending for the division, and fans will follow. And that always carries over to the next season. Problem is, I really doubt Braun would accept a trade to Cleveland.
  11. Yes you can, you just can't help fighting what your mind is telling you. Why can't they be competitive while they rebuild? Maybe it's because Guerra, Davies, Anderson are the #2-4 starting pitchers. No production in CF or 2B. So are you suggesting they should have spent another $50MM+ this season on Garza/Lohse types to be "competitive" yet nowhere near the Cubs, Nationals, and other teams? What would be the point of being competitive, yet still not have a realistic chance to get to the WS and win it? The alternative is to maximize the window when they CAN have that realistic chance. How do you maximize? Get the most talent you possibly can for the players who won't be a part of that window. I really believe you know all of this, not sure why you're fighting it so hard. Unless all you want is a competitive team every year, and the WS is not your goal. If that's the case, can't say you're wrong, it's just want you want to see as a fan.
  12. They really can't be compared, because goals were completely different under Melvin's regime. Mark A wanted to win it all, or in a year that wasn't possible at least be competitive. That has a huge effect on how you manage the roster.
  13. Agreed. And I apologize in advance, as this has become a circular debate, so I'm repeating myself. If you're a GM, do you give up a couple top prospects who may not be able to play during the pennant run and/or playoffs? Or accept the fact he's a ticking time bomb ready to miss a huge stretch of games at any given moment? It's a very real concern, and any team will have a hard time giving up a couple top prospects and committing to big salary for multiple years with his injury risk. And I do agree his salary is fair, and not a big deal for the big market teams. But it's still a big contract if he's not playing. Let me be clear. This doesn't mean a deal CAN'T get done. GMs and Owners are people, and they make emotional decisions in the heat of a pennant chase. And anyone would love to have Braun in their line-up. All I'm saying is his injuries are a real issue. As for his legacy, yes, of course he cares. But he may feel winning a WS or two would be a better legacy than playing his entire career in Milwaukee. Also, he will never be viewed as a Yount by many fans even if he does. Besides the PED thing, he just doesn't come off as a down to earth guy. He may be the nicest guy in the world, I don't know, but perception is reality for fans.
  14. Yes, along with his alarming lack of walks.
  15. We must remember being ready as a player and being ready as a person are two different things. Moving to the u.s. is a huge step for these guys.
  16. I guess I don't remember anyone expecting all these guys to pan out? The idea was to sign or trade for these guys for almost nothing, so low risk and potential for high return. Even if just Villar is a keeper beyond next season, that's not bad filling 1 out 8 starting positions from a bunch of guys that cost nothing.
  17. Some fringe-y prospect starting pitchers tonight. Who will step up?
  18. You know, Cleveland is interesting. Attendance has been horrendous, and they may feel the need to make a run this year. They definitely have the system to offer a good return for Lucroy. They have pitching, OF, and even a Catcher in their Top 10 prospects. (But I'm no expert in other teams' prospects, so I'm sure others here can be more specific.)
  19. Yea I'd love to find a way to get Noel from them. Seems to be the type of C i think fits well with this core. Maybe Vaughn and our #10. Anything involving Monroe/MCW would need to involve a 3rd team IMO. They won't want MCW back and Monroe is an overlap with Okafor. I agree, this would be the type of deal that could work, but would require a 3rd team. That's real common in NBA trades though, so it is realistic.
  20. Has anyone heard anything about Luna? I have not seen his name anywhere since last August.
  21. Discussion was about his defense, not overall progression as a prospect. Agree there's plenty of hope for him. And yes, switching to 3rd you'll boot a few balls. Nothing to panic about. But his throwing has been awful, and that does worry me. Any player over 11 should be able to consistently throw the ball to 1B. It's all his head I'm sure, but there have been players that never got over that.
  22. I see quite a few of these comments, or similar comments scattered across BF. I just don't buy it at all. When the team is bad, attendance will be down in April, May, September regardless if either/or Braun and Fielder are around. Or Lucroy, or anyone else. And attendance will be way up June- August. That's just the way it is. Casual fans will show up in the summer, but not in the Spring and Fall unless they're winning- or early on expected to be a winning team. If anything, casual fans would want to come out and see the new toys (Arcia, Hader, Phillips, etc.)
  23. Ok, 10,000 seats is an issue. But there are facilities in Phoenix area that have that, no? Talking Stick? Peoria? And they can play in the morning with no tickets for all I care. Phoenix isn't ideal either, granted. But there's no 10,000 seat stadium anywhere in the US they could use for a year or two? I don't care if attendance is 73 fans a game, Brewers could reimburse the facility for operating costs etc. for a year if attendance is low.
  24. I don't get it. The farm system is everything to the Brewers right now, it shouldn't even be an option to play there another year. They could use their Maryvale facility, or another facility in Phoenix area. Sure it's hot, but the rookies play there don't they? Or there's a whole host of mid-sized cities all over that must have a decent neutral park facility to host AAA baseball for a year or two. Even if any situation is temporary, it's better than playing in CS another year or two, with no end in sight really.
  25. Rick, Glenn, Darrell and the rest of the group won't have to worry about Walsh any longer, this walker is gone.
