  1. Even if Hill is traded, I rather see Perez get as many starts at 3B as possible. Maybe bring up Cecchini at some point to play some 3B and 1B. I just don't see any reason for Villar to play there this season. I'm not worried about him being able to play 3B down the road, we don't need to see it now. Frankly, I still don't see that as his landing spot anyhow. I see him in a soft platoon with Scooter at 2B, and getting some starts at SS/3B. But all of that is subject to change anyhow, depending on who is traded, how all these guys perform for the rest of the season, etc. If they want him to play more 3B next season, start that process in Spring Training. No real reason to dabble with it this year when we already have Hill, Perez, Walsh, and possibly Cecchini playing there. That's enough 3B guys for the time being.
  2. The 20 strikeout record has always been one that surprises me. I would have expected some old-timey pitcher to strike-out all 27, or at least closer to it.
  3. Looks like you got your wish, Harper suspended for a game. Maybe you wanted more, but at least he was suspended. By the way, FWIW, I'm an old school guy. Not a big fan of antics on the field either. But for some reason I don't mind Harper, (or TPlush for that matter) adding a little spice to the game. As long as it's only a few guys here and there, adds some fun. Now if it turns into the WWE out there, that's another story.
  4. Some of those Sky Sox relievers have strung together some nice outings. Magnifico, Chapman, Barnes, Ross....even Dillard. Nice to see, since at least a couple of these guys will need to be called up at some point to eat some innings.
  5. This year's draft has nothing to do with Villar, or anyone else. You get the best player you can, without going crazy over slot. Sure, they could draft a 3B. But even if they do, who knows if he ever makes it to MLB, and if he does it's at least 3 years down the road. By then, who knows what Villar is.
  6. Hill and Perez will be playing 3B this year, maybe even Cecchini at some point. Villar can play SS all year. Then when Arcia comes up next year, we'll see. So many factors come into play, a lot can happen in a year. Villar can be traded, he can move to 3B, but most likely he becomes the UT guy. Split some game with Scooter at 2B, and play some 3B and SS here and there.
  7. Because baseball is a business...and you want to make money at the end of the day. Paying $30mil to Trout is a pretty big hit to the bottom line. An owner being rich means absolutely nothing. It is a business, but it's also a hobby to many of these owners. An owner being rich means a lot. It means they don't need to be profitable every year, or any year for that matter. The biggest financial gain comes from selling the team, since the price tag keeps going up pretty substantially. So many owners are willing to takes short term losses if it means winning a title. Heck, our very own owner has hinted he would be open to that.
  8. I really respect Lepay. He's never been a baseball guy, but from his very first game he has been a professional. Does his homework on Brewers history, whats going on the league, and yes even knows how to pronounce the players' names. His delivery isn't as polished as BA, but that's to be expected.
  9. Burgos getting progressively better in every start. Not that he's a prospect or anything, but the Brewers will need someone to log some starts and eat some innings this year. At least Burgos looks like he may be able to do that.
  10. Thank you! Had Angels on my mind for some reason. Jungmann is probably better than any prospect they have ; )
  11. You know, Angels should really think about that before they just dismiss it. Braun and Jeffress for Urias? Heck, throw in Anderson or Davies.
  12. My go-to is the Venom Burger, at the stand way down RF line. Everything at the Festy Grill down the LF line is good too. If you're up for ginormous 18 pound burgers (or whatever they are) you have several options there as well. Small stadium, of course, so pretty easy to just walk around and see what they have, and you won't miss the game.
  13. Nobody questions the current rotation is pathetic. They need to improve, whether we use the term TOR starter, an ace, whatever. Bottom line, it needs to get much better. The Brewers are likely to never have a #1 and #2 at the same level as the big money teams. But KC proved you can still win it all anyhow. Stearns has been stocking the farm with pitching talent. Any future TOR starters? Too early to tell, many are still very young. And he will continue to accumulate pitching talent. All I'm saying is you don't go into a trade at this stage of the rebuild only looking for pitching.
  14. Well you kind of do since they are the ones that spend the money to watch the baseball games and the only reason it exists. If your fans are going to hate your new shiny player with a passion that really isn't something you want. You also run the risk if Braun doesn't live up to expectations. That would be one ugly situation. And while players do switch teams and go to their rivals that almost always happens in Free Agency not by trade. They also usually are not former PED users that lied and are so strongly hated. The hate Cub's fans have for Ryan Braun is up there for worst in sports. So if you are a GM sitting at your desk considering this kind of move these things can play a role. The negative attention it would bring the organization would be pretty substantial. You also aren't likely to have fans go out and buy a bunch of his merchandise so that doesn't make matters any better. The Cubs would be pretty ill-advised to make such a move. They would be better off going with a different option and avoiding the risk and circus Braun brings to the table. You listed some good reasons earlier why this trade would be very difficult, I just don't think fan reaction is one of them. ARam was hated by Brewer fans with a passion. The minute he put on a Brewer uniform, he got standing ovations. Garza was hated, but everyone was excited when the Brewers signed him. Could go on and on. Most Cubs fans don't even really "hate" Braun, they just have fun with the chants and everything. You don't think Scrub fans, of all people, wouldn't be buying his jerseys when he hits his first HR as a Cub? We all know they would bandwagon in a heartbeart.
  15. I agree. Plus, when Scooter comes back someone has to go. You could say it's a rebuilding year, give him more ABs. Let him start for a month every day and see what he does. But, like you said, it's not like he's 22. Other than being LH, he really has nothing to offer over Villar, Perez, Rivera, or Hill. Or probably even Orf for that matter. You can only have so many IFs, I'm willing to cut Walsh loose at this point. It's not an emergency or anything, if they want to wait until the All-Star break or something, really doesn't matter.
  16. Except for, you know, actually getting a hit in one of his ABs.
  17. If we are to get a TOR prospect he's likely 2-3 years away. That's why you gotta get them in these two trades. If it limits our options so be it. The team that has the TOR are the winners in acquiring Braun or Lucroy. Braun already comes with the Clause that limits to begin with. It's not like the Brewers have just til this deadline to make a trade of either or forever hold on to them. Set your price and wait. We won't get TOR in any other way aside from development of own. And as of today it is barren of that potential. Don't get the TOR, this team is beyond 2020 before becoming competitive and playoff talking. And at that point we're having to recycle the Santana's and Nelson's. I get what you're saying. Ideally you get a TOR starter in return for Lucroy/Braun or both....get two of them. But teams are very unlikely to give up those guys in any trade, and they may be willing to give up Top 10-25 type talent position players. So I wouldn't turn down a Schwarber, for example, for a guy who COULD be TOR type starter, but far from automatic. The Brewers have just started the rebuild, it's way too early to turn down the best deal for a deal to acquire starting pitching. Could that mean the rebuild goes beyond 2020? Sure. But that was likely to happen anyhow. We could very well have TOR starters in Brevard, Appleton, Helena. Plus several pitchers who are injured that have that ceiling. At this stage, you acquire the best talent you can and worry about specific position a couple years from now. It is painful, it will seem like it takes forever, but it is the best way to rebuild.
  18. in a heartbeat, yes. Schwarber + for Braun? Absolutlely. Would be shocked to see that happen. Can you even deal players on the DL? I would not want ACL torn Schwarber in a deal. He was being moved off of Catcher to LF due to his receiving. He's LF due to already a lack of range. Just thinking he's going to quickly become a DH only option. =162 Pinch hit PAs as a Brewer since there's no DH in the NL. Again like the Lucroy trade the need is TOR. Cubs don't possess that. Whichever trade that happens first, had better come with the TOR. Because then your options change. But if you trade either first and don't get that TOR, you must get one in the other trade... And then your left with last ditch chance to get. No, you get the best value you can. Limiting a trade for a tor starter really limits your options. There's 3 or 4 years to find starting pitchers. As for schwarber, he could play 1b if necessary. Hes very young, acl Inst a huge deal to me.
  19. I did! 3 ks can carry over to the field for a young player. No excuses, still like his glove work.
  20. Right, plus they already have 3 other guys getting time at 3b. And there's five more months of baseball, so there's that.
  21. Man I hope Rivera can hit a little, he is so smooth with the glove.
  22. Trent Clark headed to Appleton, cool, didn't expect that one.
