  1. See Walsh, that's what you get for swinging at a pitch
  2. Anderson looks like he's about to pop a blood vessel. Simon has a gut rivaling mine.
  3. Looks like adding muscle mass hasn't resulted in increased (or any) power...yet.
  4. You left off JJ. Perfect in saves so far, if he can keep that up (and get enough opportunities) he would be a shoe-in.
  5. There are not a few aces available every off-season. It's rare for an ace to be available on the open market. Even if there were a few, no, the Brewers can't compete financially for a true ace in the open market. If they could, they would have signed Sabathia at the time. Secondly, you may only need 3-4 reliable starters in the playoffs. A little problem there though, you have to MAKE the playoffs first. And you need more than 3 to make the playoffs- especially if you're counting on Peralta to be one of them.
  6. While the rotation is nowhere near ready to compete, I figure it's about time to pour water on the line-up too. Santana, Phillips, and Nottingham are far from guaranteed to be average players, let alone really good players. Sometimes it seems like we're playing fantasy baseball. Just plug this guy in here, another guy there. These are all talented players, but we all know how many really talented players never make it to MLB, let alone stick. So to compete in 2017/18 we basically need FOUR starting pitchers, 2-3 reliable bullpen arms, keep Braun (and he needs to stay healthy and continue to hit at this level), Carter hitting close to his current pace for 2 years and 5 months longer, Santana and Gennett panning out, and then Arcia, Phillips, and Nottingham all getting close to their ceilings, and doing it almost immediately in their MLB careers. I can be as glass half full as I want, but that's hard to swallow.
  7. I agree you don't NEED to be horrible for 2-3 years, but you shouldn't be afraid of that either. Yes, we all would like to see their record improve every year. But I don't think that should prevent them from trading guys like Villar, Carter, Smith, Jeffress, etc., if they get something really good in return. (Same is true for Lucroy and Braun also, but that has already been discussed to death.) That could mean an even worse record in 2017, but better positioned to be even better a few years down the road. I know I keep saying it, but I think everyone would feel better if they just put W/L records out of their mind for next 3 years. This had a chance of being a rather quick fix, but that's out the window now.
  8. I've always respected your opinions, so I'm honestly curious how you see a rotation that can contend in 2018? Will they be better in 2018? I sure hope so. But a contender?
  9. There's no way the Brewers trade Braun for a small return AND pay a big chunk of his salary. I don't care if Stearns himself wrote the article, it's not going to happen. As for Lucroy being part of the solution, are you saying they should re-sign him to a new contract? Otherwise, he won't be part of any solution after next year. Look, I don't want to crush another man's dreams. If you believe they can contend in 2017/18, I'm not going to talk you off the ledge. In fact, I would love to join you if anyone can show me a realistic path to a quality rotation in that time frame.
  10. Yes, except this isn't the optimism thread. I am enjoying the season, but in no way am I changing my expectations. Because it's also possible to lose and enjoy the season at the same time as well.
  11. I predict big changes in the next rendition of the Top 25. Whether it's over-reacting or not, I'm sure plenty of debate to come.
  12. It's good for the soul to follow a game on GameDay once in a while.
  13. I think it's time to revise expectations. However, window should be moved back- not up. You mentioned all the positives, but kind of glossed over the fact they are 4 pitchers short of a quality rotation. I've never been good at math, but I'm pretty sure that's a big number. Even if everything went perfectly, rotation next year could be Nelson, Hader, Lopez, Davies, and pitcher in return for Lucroy. (Or counting on Peralta or Anderson to improve.) First, that's a lot of things that need to ALL go right. But even if they did, can that rotation compete right now? It is a shame, I get it. Looks like Braun is back, Lucroy is hitting, Carter has been a pleasant surprise. It would be nice to build around that and make a run with those guys.
  14. I'm still very optimistic about Nottingham, but it's way too early to say they are covered there. Even if he was putting up huge numbers so far in AA. Lots of things can go wrong, and he is not a finished product. Same is true for the rotation. No guarantee they get a TOR starter for Lucroy. Even if they make a trade like that, whoever they acquire would still need to pitch to expectations of the top prospect status. Some guys do, lots of guys don't. Point being, it's just too early to say they'll be competitive in 2017 or 2018. There are still too many things that all have to go right, and that rarely happens. If this was the optimism thread, sure. Honestly, I just don't want us to get too far ahead of ourselves and be disappointed. Cautious optimism.
  15. Too bad Gatewood hasn't walked all season. Wow, still no walks. That's both amazing and troublesome. A big part of Harrison's problem too.
  16. Coulter and Gatewood heating up. Harrison not so much.
  17. You said it all. Nice to see he came back strong after his injury, but 26 in A+ ball with zero power equals no prospect. But could be a guy that hangs around the organization after his playing days.
  18. If this guy keeps it up, he'll make a good ESPN baseball analyst real soon, he'll fit right in.
  19. Xxxprincefielder or something like that. He was also famous for predicting a win or loss after the first 2 or 3 pitches of the game.
  20. Lol. Carter by far...eh? Your posts make it seem like you hate the make up of the team...that's fine, but the shtick is getting old. Reminds of the the one poster who made all sorts of bold claims and is no longer around. Hopefully your fate isn't the same. Hey the Brewers were like 86-3 when "that guy" attended games. So a little respect please.
  21. Yea that Nelson guy is great on defense. He's Mutumbo of the Brewers.
  22. I like it, I'll be tuning in to watch a 58 yr old pitcher make his MLB debut. How long before we see the old "Player X plays every position in a game?" Or a Sumo wrestler play CF?
  23. What about righty on righty? Lots of RH hitters can hit RHP, that's the difference. With that said, yea it's not ideal to have only LH options off the bench to PH. But that is temporary, and even if it wasn't it really doesn't matter this year. Actually, it gives guys a chance to prove they can PH and get on base vs LHP. And there's a bunch of these guys that need to be put in a position to show what they can do, or can't do.
  24. Congrats to Jaye, we'll see him in Milwaukee by the end of the month.
  25. It could also mean they're just getting hit harder this year.
