  1. The issue has been drafting and developing major league talent- especially pitching. Analytics won't help you figure out whether an 18 year old OF is a better pick than a 23 year old college pitcher. Well, ok, analytics can help marginally.
  2. I DVRd and watched the first two summer league games. (Well, TRIED to watch the entire games...but too brutal.) Inglis is clearly not in basketball shape, just no way to tell what kind of player he is. Vaughn showed flashes, which is good, but was hoping he was a better pure shooter than he has shown. But we're talking about extremely small sample size, of course. The rest of the roster is a joke, Eric is the only guy that's intriguing- only because he is big. Kilpatrick, the kid from Cincy, is interesting, but is the very definition of a tweener. No PG skills, and way too small to play the 2- especially for the Bucks.
  3. Well, the period of darkness has already begun. Not sure if you've checked the standings lately. With that said, if Peralta, Nelson, and Jungmann can pitch at or near their ceiling consistently- then yes the period of darkness will be reduced.
  4. Yes, the AZ guys have low k rates AND on some cases they're taking walks. A lot of good signs. I never get excited about guys at this level, bug the production and other signs are too encouraging to ignore.
  5. Right. It's way too early to worry about which one (or either) sticks at SS. Important thing is to keep these players at the level the bat dictates. If Arcia is the real deal, then both of them will need to find different positions anyhow eventually.
  6. Or if you can get value back in a Segura trade, you could platoon Rivera with Gennett at 2B. I bet Rivera puts up numbers very similar to Segura.
  7. I agree, I wouldn't wait too long on any offer for Segura or Ramirez. On the other hand, need to be patient with Gomez, KRod, Lind, and Parra. Those guys would offer a ton of value to a contending team, and you need to get back something far better than a Delmonico for each of them.
  8. Exactly, that's how I look at it. For years now there's one or two players (at best) at each level to get truly excited about. Now we have this wave at the Rookie/DSL level, and there's even a couple more guys tearing it up we haven't even mentioned. Now add some more young talent via a few trades (and another draft) and next year the Brewers could have the best talent at the A level and below in all of baseball. I know to most fans that's not exciting, but this is what I've been wanting for a couple years now. A true wave of high ceiling talent coming up together. Finally, as a side note, I'm wondering how Lara is doing at SS. All I know is I don't ever seem to see an "E" after his name in the box scores, but obviously that doesn't mean a whole lot.
  9. Ok, thanks, that makes more sense then. Would have liked to move Bayless instead of ZaZa or Dudley, but I'm guessing his cap number isn't big enough to make any difference.
  10. This may put me in "geek" status, but I go through the box scores and posts every day for each affiliate. I have done this for years, thanks to this excellent resource. In all the years of doing this, this is the first year I automatically go to the AZ Brewers first. In the past, there was always a different league that got my attention, or maybe day to day it depended on who the SP was, etc. Not this year, I go straight to the AZ Brewers box. We are still dealing with small sample size, but not so small that the numbers are meaningless. Lara, Clark, Perry, Segovia, and Orimoloye all look very impressive. Every player develops differently, but compare what these guys are doing to Gatewood and Harrison last year. Can't wait to see these guys in Appleton.
  11. I read somewhere the roster was at 14, not sure if that's correct. Either way, it's not about roster reduction. There are other guys on the roster like Ennis that could have easily been cut. The trade was to free up cap space, which tells me there's another potential trade of FA signing coming. I believe after Vaughn is signed they'll have around $6MM under the cap. In fact, unless they do bring in another big the move is puzzling. You have only Monroe and Henson as true big men, Plumley if you want to count him. (I see Parker taking over the role/minutes of Irsan.) As others have said, I think they're going to miss Dudley and Zaza. They offered stability, veteran presence, all the intangibles that I think had a lot to do with their rise last year.
  12. Just trolling for now, waiting for the deadline to submit. Some good lists have been posted so far! Surprised to see Taylor Williams is not on just about everyone's list. I get that he's injured, but to go from #8 to off the top 25 is pretty drastic.
  13. There are others here who can better answer your question using advanced stats. But I'll say this, remember back to the 2011 season. Axford, KRod, Hawkins, and Saito were almost untouchable- especially down the stretch. When they got the 7th with a lead, game was over. And that wasn't even a dominant pen, other than the late inning guys. I've always maintained the pen is one area a small market team like the Brewers can compete with anybody. If two of their home-grown SP can become top of the rotation guys, and they build a dominant pen, that goes a long way to making them a contender again.
  14. Since Carrot Top isn't an option, I will go with Michael.
  15. Agreed. Plus Magnifico, Burgos....
  16. I hear what you're saying. But I don't think that has had anything to do with it. The problem is to get state senators and reps from Hudson, Superior, Wausau, etc. to vote yes for this. Either Republicans or Democrats. They have nothing to lose in their districts by voting against it. But I do agree that they didn't realize what they were in for. I think they put together the offer to pay half because they thought that would ensure it would all get done very quickly. Nobody outside Milw and WI realizes how short-sighted and petty we are with everything, You have a ton of people with their opinions and fingers in the pie, but nobody has the courage to take the bull by the horns and drive it home.
  17. Well, I reject the notion they have 5 PG and 4 centers. Henson and Monroe can both play C or PF. Giannis can also play PF. MCW is the only clear PG, Vasquez will play mostly PG, but he will play some 2 as well. Bayless is also a combo guard who may not even play much if Vaughn is ready. Ennis is a non-factor. It's all about match-ups, it's not as easy as just saying someone is a PG or a 3 , etc. Look at the playoffs, Giannis played virtually every position. Parker can play 3/4. Middleton can play 2/3. With all that said, I agree with you they will still make a move or two.
  18. At this point Lind, Parra, and KRod should each net a nice return. Not some middling/decent minor leaguer, but true prospects. ARam has positioned himself into having some value, it all depends whether there's a team out there who needs a 3B and likes/wants him. Either way, I wouldn't expect a high level prospect. Maybe go with a couple guys with upside at A level or lower. Lohse is a guy I think teams really want if he would show any sign at all of being decent. A veteran starter with post-season experience- a lot of teams love that. And they would be willing to take a bit of a risk, but not unless he can staring together a couple decent starts. Again, either way, not much in return form him. Garza? Forget about it. Broxton? Ditto. Gomez? I don't think you shop him, but you answer the phone. If you get a good return pull the trigger. But it better be a great prospect, and one or two lower level guys. Braun, Lucroy? I just don't see a trade happening now. During the off-season maybe, but not now. Segura? I just don't see a trade making sense here. You're not going to get a top prospect, and he's still under control for a while for cheap. Cotts? Sure, but again not much of anything in return. Bottom line, I want to see them get some really good prospects for Lind. Parra, and Krod. Gomez also if the right deal comes along. Beyond that, you're not going to get anything much in return. Besides pitching (which you can always use) the system is low on power, so ideally they should get a 3B/1B with pop. Heck, even corner OF. A legit catching prospect would be nice too.
  19. Then they were foolish if they had full confidence in the state, and especially local government. When this does not pass at the state level, and it won't, the city needs to step up very quickly and find a way to get it done. I sure hope they have a plan for that, but somehow I doubt it. Last option is for the Owners to pay for the whole thing, or bring in new investors to help make up the difference. The state's portion is the smallest piece, so there are many ways to make up that difference- I just don't sense anyone taking charge of this.
  20. Basically the same thing as a 1-0 baseball game if you're not a baseball fan, or watching Dick Bennett basketball if you're not a basketball fan. It's why a goal or a scoring opportunity is more exciting, because there are so few of them. Soccer has grown on me over the years, but I'll admit it's not the most exciting sport to watch. Part of it is, like all sports played at the highest level, they make it look so easy. It is not nearly as easy as it looks to make perfect passes with perfect pace over an over. But I get why so many people don't like it, and I don't bother trying to convince people they should.
  21. None of the above. If there's one thing we should have learned by now, we don't KNOW any of these celebrities, pro athletes, etc.
  22. Also add Lind to the list. There's got to be interest in a LH 1B/DH who is hitting like this. He should bring a very nice return.
  23. Fiers is a solid #3 starter for a mediocre or bad team. He would be a number 5 starter for a WS contender. And I'm a huge Fiers supporter over the past few years.
  24. Bring back the beer mug and fire Bernie. The worst mascot in all of sports.
  25. I would be optimistic if they traded Lind for a class A player on the level of Devin Williams, Medeiros, or Coulter. In fact, I'm probably more optimistic than most on the Brewers future, just not for the 2015/2016 seasons. Keep flooding the system with high ceiling prospects and you can call me Mr. Glass H. Full.
