  1. 0-4 and body language said "I have zero confidence" Most surprising HR I can remember in a while.
  2. What is the faulty logic you're referring to?
  3. I don't think going for it means they can't still be sellers at the same time. Greinke is a different story. But they can go for the playoffs and still try to trade the likes of Izturis, Kottaras, Wolf, Morgan, Loe, KRod, etc. I think they should try to get anything they can for any of those guys regardless of how far they're back two weeks from now.
  4. Optimisitc side of me says nobody in the lineup is playing over their heads, with reason to believe Weeks and Hart can have a btter 2nd half. More than makes up for Lucroy dropping off a little. Plus, you may catch lightning in a bottle with a guy like Bianchi (if he ever plays.) Almost any offense from SS would be an improvement. On the mound, if Wolf keeps struggling there are options to rpelace him in Thorny, Peralty, Burgosy, etc. Greinke and Yo fully capable of putting together really solid or even spectacular 2nd halfs. Bullpen is biggest concern, but at lest they realize they have a problem- always the first step in recovery. There are options there too if Vargas, Loe, and KRod continue to struggle. Maybe you don't DFA them, but bring in other guys to handle the critical innings. Frankly, if they get real hot real early I woudn't even mind giving up some mediocre prospect for a solid bullpen arm. Especially if that arm is cheap and under contract for a couple more years. If they can't get a top shelf prospect for Greinke, I really don't have a problem riding him out anyhow. There is no dominant team in the NL, and the Brewers in a strange way may have a better rotation for the playoffs than last year by replacing Marcum with a Fiers (if he's still "hot") or even catch lightning in a bottle with a guy like Burgos. At any rate, once they're in they have as good a chance as last year- especially if they come into the playoffs hot. (Which they would have to be to make it that far.) Now, I could poke holes in all this. But this IS the OPTIMISM thread.
  5. Am I crazy, or could the T-Rats beat the Sea Cows in a 3 game series? (Especially if you you let Wisc have Gagnon and Rogers back) I think they definitely have more bats, and pitching is pretty close.
  6. Biggest question is, since Bianchi's name already ends with the "ee" sound, what nickname will RR use? Bianchi-ee?
  7. Yea, I realize Gamel and Morris are LH. Pretty much what I'm saying, either Hart or Ramirez need to be moved to make room for one of them. Or any other LH bat for that matter. Corner OF isn't an option unless Aoki is not a solution there for the next 3-4 years. (And I think he is.)
  8. I agree. The only reason I can see keeping them around another couple weeks is possible trade bait. There are a few teams with injured middle IF, could be more in July. And since a lot of managers think like RR does, they may value a non-hitting vet like Izturis. Or a guy like Ransom who can play 2B/SS/3B. If Melvin can get anything at all for those guys, worth a shot. I don't think it's too far out there to suggest a contender may want a veteran backup SS with no bat. Otherwise, I would definitely want to see Bianchi get a lot of playing time, and worth looking more at Maysonet as well. These are small things, but if they can take care of some of these bench positions with capable players at minimum salaries, it helps. Next step, DFA the likes of Veras and Dillard for Kintzler, Henderson, Sanchez, Wooten, Stetter....anyone.
  9. Well, I have read the majority of the posts and I didn't see anyone claiming he was/ will be the ace of the staff. What I DO see in the majority of posts is people saying there's reason to believe Fiers may be middle of the rotation guy as a celing, but even if he's a 4/5 starter that would be good thing to know going into next season.
  10. I don't think anyone (including Denny Green) is "crowning him" or naming him ace of the staff, unless I've missed something? Seems to me the tone here in general is "cautiously optimistic." Estrada also looks like a pretty solid #5 guy. Now if a guy like Burgos can come out of nowhere and be an option for 2013, things are looking up. You basically have the rotation covered, not even including any top prospects.
  11. If you look at his secondary numbers, not a whole lot has changed since Helena. As the President of the Burgos to Milw fan club (and only member) I would still bring him up if Greinke is traded, if Marcum is shut down, etc. He is similar to Fiers in that he is not afraid to throw any of his pitches, and he moves them around. You know.....pitching.
  12. I don't buy that. His value was at it's highest as recent as spring training this year. Not a guaranteed starter, but borderline.
  13. Well, they already have a LH corner OF- Aoki. You could move him to CF, but he really isn't an ideal every day CF. The Hart/Aram combo is causing a logjam- both financially and logistically. As others have said, it's not like either one of them aren't playing up to their contracts. But like you, I would like to see a LH with power. And that most likely comes from 1B/3B.
  14. Maybe, but once again they would be selling low. That's why I'm big on trying to trade guys like ARam, Hart, and Axford. Green and Gamel could both be trade candidates, but right now would a bad time to sell. I can see a big deal getting done this off-season with multiple players involved, and Green or Gamel could be part of that. Or maybe Green gets thrown in with greinke to help get a top prospect back. I just don't see getting much of anything for him straight up.
  15. Nice contract for Sova. Worse case, he will always be a good commodity to trade if you want to go another direction. So there's really no down side. Even if his jumper is broke, he's a guy who can hit the boards- especially the offensive glass, and there will always be teams interested in that. I don't think they'll want to trade him though. I don't think we're seeing a player coming off his career year, I think we're seeing a guy who is just starting to take off. The whole "tear it down and build back up again" fails as often as it succeeds, we just focus on the times it works. Bucks could go down to $0 salary, and offer a star a max contract- they still won't come here.
  16. Absolutely not. No way we give up a prospect. O's need a top quality SP if they really want to compete. Not Melvin's job to make it an easy decision for them.
  17. Bundy, yea they won't give up. Machado is the price they would have to pay for Greinke. Now, they may very well not be willing to give him up, but that's the type of deal the Brewers should be demanding and expecting. I don't think it's over-reaching at all based on similar situations in recent years. I get the O's would be giving up their future SS, but that's the price you pay to "go all in." Espeically since there are very, very few starters at greinke's level out there. There's just no reason to trade Greinke for a couple of guys with good upside. They would be better off getting the comp picks. Giving a team a top of the rotation starter for the pennant drive requires a true top shelf prospect.
  18. Dillard has better numbers across the board compared to Veras. Case closed. But back to the original question, what do they do next year? We need a better plan than "oh well, bullpens are inconsistent."
  19. Actually, it was my biggest concern entering the season, for all the reasons TooLiveBrew pointed out. It was predictable that Ax/KRod couldn't be as dominant as they were last year. While Axford's fall-off is worse than I anticipated, KRod doesn't surprise me at all. Bigger problem was replacing Saito/Hawkins with Veras/Loe. There was no way that combo was ever going to come close to what Saito/Hawkins did in the 2nd half last season. The pen was doomed from the start really. What do they do now? I wouldn't be opposed to a trade, but it would need to benefit the Brewers beyond 2012. For example, if they traded Morgan or Wolf for a really good reliever witha couple pre-arby years left, it would be worth looking at. They simply need to find a way to build a solid pen next year without spending a lot of money. I know, easier said than done but plenty of teams have found a way to do just that.
  20. I don't care much about the AS game, even less about HR derby. I suppose it would be nice for Braun to be in it, but frankly it doesn't matter to me. So its not whether Braun is in or out, its WHY thats the story. With that said, I do think it's at least interesting if Kemp did snub Braun. That's a story. NOT saying he did, Braun very well may have let him know he wasn't interested. Probably exactly what happened, but I dont think we know for sure.
  21. They can't all be pretty 6-2 wins. You need some ugly wins too, lord knows we've had ugly losses. Does that mean I think this team is suddenly a contender? No. But I will enjoy every win, and this one moreso than most.
  22. Actually, it's not the same thing at all. He's asking why watch in person vs TV. That's a much finer line than watching vs reading about him or looking at stats.
